Started in 2007, seven world cups have been played in this format till 2021.
We have seen many high class matches and some brilliant performances in these events.As 7th edition is on its closing stages, i have made a team of top performers in the WT20I.
The main factor i considered for player's inclusion is their world cup statistics and impact.
Here is my All Time XI for T20I world cups.
1. Chris Gayle
2nd most run scorer in world cups along with 1st ever world cup century.Any XI in T20s can't be completed without Gayle.
2. Mahela Jayawardene
Jayawardene contributed in each world cup he played in. He is the only player to score more than 1000 runs in world cups.
3. Virat Kohli
Kohli's back to back world cup heroics fetched him Player of the series honours in both editions.
His has highest average and most number of 50s in WCs.
4. Kevin Pietersen
Pietersen has impressive average and strike rate in world cups.. He scored more than 500 runs. He was England's most impressive player in their 2010 WC glory.
5. Marlon Samuels
Samuel's strike rate is lower as compared to other players in the team but his legendary knocks in 2012 and 2016 finals can't be ignored. Samuels in the only person to win two player of the match awards in world cup finals. Such a clutch player!
6. Shane Watson
Watson was player of the tournament in 2012 for his brilliant all round performance. His ability to score quickly and picking wickets in any situation make him valuable asset for any team.
7. Jos Buttler
Unusual position for Buttler in the format as he prefers to open now. But as he has more impressive numbers than Dhoni, he is taking gloves in the side along with playing finishing role.
8. Shahid Afridi
Afridi was player of the series in inaugural tournament where his brilliance with the ball helped Pakistan to reach finals.. His improved batting efforts meant Pakistan won next championship in style.
9. Umar Gul
He is probably the most underrated T20I bowler. He was the first player to bag fifer in the format. Gul was almost unplayable in death overs.
10. Lasith Malinga
No T20 XI is complete without Gayle and Malinga.
Under his captainship Sri Lanka lifted trophy in 2014.
11. Samuel Badree
Badree was one of the most important members of the side which won two world cups in span of 4 years. His brilliant bowling in powerplay set many games for West Indies.
