Breaking News on Geo:Scotland Yard has confirmed that they've arrested a 60 year old..Media is saying that its none other than :altaf
 
Altaf Hussain arrested in UK

Big news coming in, apparently going to be charged for money laundering.
 
Update: Scotland Yard confirms that the 60 year old arrested is in fact MQM's leader Altaf Hussain!
 
This will be huge blow for Karachi they already started to close the shops and riots.
 
My first hope is that no one dies in Karachi due to the fuss those fools will cause in protest
 
While it should be a good news however, I can't help but feel terrified for the people of Karachi since they will have to bear the brunt of MQM's rage. May Allah keep Karachi and it's people safe.
 
Now I get why he was in such a hurry to get a pakistani passport suddenly. Probably wanted to get out of england before this happened.

According to media reports, Scotland Yard are also close to solving Imran farooqs murder and it's all pointing to altar Bhai. I hope that happens and he is hanged
 
Long overdue. But lets make no mistake the repercussions is going to be felt in Karachi, there will be bloodletting. MQM will light the place up in protest.

Security forces should be put on high alert.
 
Those who should be behind the bars are free and those who should be at the helm of affairs of the country (Altaf and Musharraf) are behind the the bars. This nation deserves it though.

as for mqm reaction , a paf jet exploded in mid air , could be a manpad or ground fire attack on it wouldn't put it past these mqm goons having possesion of manpads, aa guns and weaponry that can bring down low flying aircraft/helicopters

Prayers for the people there but I am so glad my family moved out of Karachi.

Pakistan falling the trap again. Looks like pak govt is involved in this show.

In the end it will only hurt pakistan to have one of its leaders blackmailed by uk.

Why dont they arrest all the dictators, ex politicians, fixers of pakistan who live in uk. heck even imran moves scott free. testing days for mqm ahead
 
His passport has been confiscated by UK police and he is not allowed to leave the country

It also says party will act responsibly and handle the matter according to the law.

Addressing media representatives via telephone from London, MQM’s Nadeem Nusrat said that Hussain was at his residence and in touch with Nusrat.

The MQM leader said that Hussain had been ill for some time, adding that he was scheduled to be shifted to a hospital today when the police arrived at his residence.

Nusrat advised all party members inside and outside Pakistan to control their emotions and not do anything that may go against the teachings of their leader.

Nusrat insisted that Hussain was not under arrest but at home.

He will get bailed out soon so hopefully bloodshed/burnings will only last a day including tomorrow at max. But things don't seem too bright for Karachi.

So Altaf being behind the bars is fault of Pakistanis? Why are some people so blind in worship? Thank God it's Scotland yard otherwise 99.9% MQM supporters would have called it ISI conspiracy (some still think ISI is to be blamed for Altaf's arrest).

They are not protesting against Scotland Yard. They are letting out their anger and putting pressure on their govt to do something about it. In the subcontinent, when you are violent you are heard.

Their anti Taliban stance is only because of fear that they will lose grip of Karachi otherwise money laundering, target killing, bhatta khori, kidnapping for ransom etc aren't really qualities of liberal party.

Oh...that's what people do to sort out their internal issues but in this case, don't they realize Pakistan government too can't do anything?

Scotland Yard have confiscated his passport. They will question him and decide on further action if they find anything suspicious.

Plus isn't he a UK citizen (with UK passport)?

So UK is just dealing with one of its citizens. Pakistan is a non entity here.

Do something about what? Altaf is a British citizen who was arrested by British police on the basis of investigation by Scotland yard? What should Pakistan do in this case?
 
Tbh I'm surprised MQM haven't taken out a anti-ISI style protst against Scotland Yard and the UK MQM Chapter hasn't threatened to break London away from the rest of the UK

Btw Altaf Ghaddar, I'm not yet fully qualified BUT I'll be more than happy to represent you in court :)

moreover, a spokesman for the british high commission said that the uk's consulate in karachi has been temporarily closed down.

“we deployed extra security at the british high commission in the southern part of karachi as soon we learnt about altaf hussain's arrest in london through media,” deputy inspector general abdul khalique shaikh told reuters.

“we have increased police patrolling and we are making further deployments at sensitive spots in the city,” he added.

Prime minister nawaz sharif said that the issue of hussain’s arrest was of an extremely sensitive nature, adding that the government would take all legal angles into account.

The premier has directed parliamentarians and members of the pml-n not to comment on the news.

I think it was a good move by MQM committee in Karachi to say he is not arrested situation somehow got calm in the city and now they can control the stupidity of there own workers whom are not in control on anyone.

God help Karachi.

I am quite sure he is arrested but what MQM rabta committee did was to deny it and this cooled down Karachi a little and residence will get some time to prepare properly for what is coming up.

I am sure they cannot control there own party members and big riots are coming towards karachi and hydrabad.

MQM leader Haider Abbas Rizvi urges party workers to remain peaceful and keep in touch with the party headquarters, RadioPakistan reports.
It further reports that Rizvi asked party workers not to resort to violence as some forces would try to capitalize on it.

apparently if it is a money laundering charge then you can only remand the suspect for 24 hours.

Its a travesty how those two have evaded justice. They entered the UK on student visas and were registered to study at a college in east London. They left on the night of the murder.

What the MQM have now realised is that we have a thing over here in Britain called ACCOUNTABILITY. If you commit a transgression, most of the time you will be caught and have to face the justice system of this country.
