Altaf Hussain loses £10m UK properties case to MQM-P

May I know why he was required to appear again in July?
Also, what happened to the case of being forwarded to the magistrate within 36 hours or so?
Just need clarification

Case will only go to a magistrate's court if he's charged. At this stage he doesn't need to enter a plea yet

Stage 1: investigation
Stage 2: arrested on suspicion and formally interviewed. During interview, accused is told a story as to what the police believe has happened and this is backed with collected evidence. Defendant can either gives answers, admit guilt or keep saying no comment (which will be held against him if he were to answer the same questions in court).

If answer given or accused to give no comment then we move to stage 3.

Stage 3: The Crown Prosecution Service will now look at all the evidence in light of the accused's interview and decide whether the version of events given by the accused are satisfactory or will the not convince a jury. They do this so they only take cases where there is a strong chance of getting a conviction. Idea is not to waste tax-payers money and courts time.

Stage 4: after analysing all the evidence and the interview of the accused, the accused will be informed whether he will be charged or not.

If they decide not to charge him in July then that means they are not confident of getting a conviction (however that doesn't mean the end of investigation.) and if they do then proceed to stage 5.

Stage 5: Accused will appear before a magistrates court (allocation hearing) which will allocate the case to crown court. (Magistrates court can only give a sentence of up to 6 months, whereas money-laundering offence carries a sentence if up to 14 years)

Stage 6: the accused will appear before crown court for Plea and Case management hearing. Accused will either plead guilty or not guilty.

If he pleads guilty the judge would adjourn and give date for a sentencing hearing.

If he pleads not guilty then the judge would give directions to both parties and give a road map on documents to be exchanged, witnesses to be summoned etc.

Once all this is done he will set a date for start of trial and how long he anticipates that it would last. Then the final showdown will start.

It's a long process - easily going into next year.

WOW. MQM's God insulted by a police officer. Here, Karachi is shut down by him within 15 minutes.

I wish I was born in a law abiding country like UK.

Some good news for the 'father of the nation' Altaf bhai.

Pakistan's MQM party leader released from bail in UK

The leader of an influential Pakistani political party who was arrested in London on suspicion of money laundering has been released from bail.

Altaf Hussain, leader and founder of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), was arrested on 3 June 2014 after officers searched a residential address in the north-west of the British capital.

The 61-year-old, who has lived in and led the party from the UK since 1991, said he was “relieved” that the Metropolitan police had advised him his bail had been cancelled.

He added: “I continue to deny any involvement in money laundering and would like to thank my millions of members and followers around the world for their ongoing support.”

Five other men arrested in connection with the same money-laundering investigation also received the same news.

A Met spokesman said: “Releasing of these six people from bail does not mean that no further action will be taken against them. No decision has yet been made, but it does mean that they will no longer be required to return to a police station on a date imposed by the investigators.”

He added that police had retained cash seized as part of the investigation under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002, pending further inquiries.

MQM, which controls Pakistan’s largest city, Karachi, mainly represents the Urdu-speaking Muhajir community, descendants of immigrants from other parts of south Asia who settled in Pakistan following independence in 1947.

It has had a block of about 20 members in the country’s national assembly for years.

In September 2010, a prominent MQM member, Imran Farooq, was stabbed to death outside his home in Edgware, north London, when he was ambushed on his way home from work.

Altaf Hussain at London police station as bail expires

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) founder Altaf Hussain is appearing before a police station in London after he was summoned for questioning in a probe related to his alleged hate speeches relayed from the United Kingdom to his followers in Pakistan.

Hussain arrived at the Southwark police station at around 10am local time and is currently present there, confirmed Mustafa Azizabadi of the MQM-London.

In June, the MQM founder was arrested from his London residence as part of the investigation into his alleged hate speeches. However, he was released on bail a day later by the British authorities without filing charges relating to the probe.

He was expected to appear before police today as his bail expired this month.

Speaking to reporters outside the police station, Hussain said: “I have trust in British law. I haven’t done anything wrong. I am not scared or afraid of anyone.”

“These are all fabricated cases. I am used to it,” he said.

The Metropolitan Police of London had raided Hussain’s residence on June 11, taken him into custody and shifted him to the Southwark police station, where he was questioned in the presence of his lawyers in connection with the probe that the police said was focused on a speech broadcast in August 2016 as well as other speeches.

Altaf loses £10m UK properties case to MQM-P
UK judge rules in favour of MQM-P led by Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) founder Altaf Hussain has lost around £10 million London properties case to MQM-Pakistan (MQM-P) after a legal battle at the UK High Court.

IT Minister Syed Aminul Haque represented MQM-P in the UK court. Insolvency and Companies Judge Clive Jones, sitting as a High Court Judge in the High Court of Justice Business and Property Court of England and Wales, has ruled that the MQM-P is the real MQM and its members are the true beneficiaries of the trusts that control London’s properties which are currently under the control of Altaf Hussain.

The judge ruled that MQM founder Altaf Hussain had resigned from the party after his August 2016 speech.

Geo News has received a copy of the judgment which shows that ICC Judge Jones has ruled that the lawyer acting for Syed Aminul Haque of MQM-P has established that the MQM’s April 2016 Constitution was adopted and “it has not been established that the 2015 Constitution was adopted and on the balance of probability it was not.”

ICC Judge Jones said in his judgment: “As on 23 August 2016 Mr Altaf Hussain stood down from any role in or involvement with MQM-P. Whether temporarily or permanently that did not alter before his expulsion from MQM-P when he formed a new association operating from London.”
