Am I the oldest poster here?

Sorry, I’m 53!

There is a poster called Veteran who attended the 1959-60 Pakistan v Australia Test at Dacca, as did my father! I hope he is still with us.

44 here. I have hardly posted or commented on any topics. I just like to read and keep up to date with crickets and Time-pass topics.

2006 debut =)

Which should swap nicknames

The real question should be whether there are any grandfathers here!?!

Not me. I think once you're a grandparent, you are officially old. :)

I think MIG was in that crowd as well.

Soon 43.

The funny things is when I used to watch cricket in 90s all the players looked sooo old, and now when I see Naseem and other young players who could have been my sons, they don't look so young :13:

34 soon ,have to say last 3 years have been tough but no regrets lot of learning and growth.

My advice to posters in their 20s go out there and live your life to the fullest.

I am almost same age as you (2 years younger).

Yeah. I have the same advice for those in early-20's. Enjoy life (without transgressing) because it can get tricky after 25.

Tough due to Covid or personal or career?

Yeah but many I notice feel its end of the world when facing problems lol atleast I was like that till 25.

My best years were 17-21(college) and then 27-31(moved west).. i wonder why

I just hope my late 30s isn’t just about nostalgia.. it’s weird the amount of aspects I miss from 1990-2000s that i crave the comfort of those times.

How many can dial a rotary phone.

I did that in ancient PCO booth during the 1990s, my nightmare was to get electrocuted from them, recall seeing some crappy documentary of people getting burnt(Didn’t verify).

I hated those burning Nokia phones as well, man tech has really evolved (ThankGod)

Yeah. I also had s great time during my school days (high school particularly).

After my graduations, I was bored more and more. I also had the displeasure of dealing with many toxic people. But, like you said, these can make you stronger in the long run.

Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger, as they say.

Old enough to to have vivid memories of 83WC semi and finals which i saw live on telly.

Ditto. I'm a couple of years younger than you are and I miss everything from the late 90's, early noughties - from the cricket to angst nu metal music to the slower pace of life etc lol

Everything was cooler in 90's. I agree.

Modern world is lame compared to 90's.

Hmm..long way to go..Started watching cricket from 1998( when I was a kid) so that is the only hint I will reveal as far as my age is concerned. :))

Early 40's here. Started watching cricket since 1992 WC. My first memories of it was Rhodes running out of Inzamam. Can never forget that. We did not have cable at that time. So watched it our friends house secretly.

lmao I can tell you I listen to Boyzone and Backstreet boys now just for nostalgia , can’t imagine them being bearable for youth nowadays.

My favorite song which was 2001 is Jaded and lol my username is based on them.

It’s also remarkable how good Indian TV was back then , thats the only thing that regressed wrt India but webseries are pretty awesome nowadays.

Also Bangalore ,Chennai were way better in 1990s, they really couldn’t keep up.

Hyderabad imho is better now.

Luckily you started seeing when Indian cricket was heading up coincided with Sharjah and Sachin smacking Shane Warne in Chennai along with amazing Dhaka cup final victory with world record chase against PCT.

1998 was awesome as a Sachin fan but ICT really started doing well only from 2001 CT.

Lol. It hurts my pride to admit it but Hyderabad is probably better now. Or so everyone says :angelo

Was that JaDed by Aerosmith? I vaguely remember a live performance by them on TV which was very popular then.

Earlier this year I finished my MBA from Delhi and since most of the crowd is atleast 4 years younger than I am, I couldn't help but notice the difference.

Most of them just wanted to drink and dance to some very trashy Punjabi/Bollywood music.

We definitely weren't as uncool as that. :P

The real question is, has anyone here experienced office life before internet/computers?

Long before internet.

There were computers, but were either dumb terminals or at best Intel 286 PC.

Yup it was by Aerosmith, the youngsters have more money to spend so obviously they do that, I was a teetotaler till i turned 25 lol.

I love Delhi food but absolutely hate everything else about it.

Not office life. Home life though. No computers or internet once upon a time, just a flimsy plastic phone with a wire that plugs it into a wall.

making plans with friends and trusting them to show up where and when agreed.

Knocking on someone’s door, instead of arriving and texting them to say “I am outside”.

Good old days.

It was like that in the 90's.

I remember I used to play street cricket with local kids in 1997-1998. There wasn't any cell phone then (at least we didn't use any).

turned 38 a few days ago. First 6 years of my life were spent in seeing turmoil in Punjab and till I was around 10 years, we were not allowed to even venture outside home alone, let alone play cricket in the grounds of Hoshiarpur.
Things became much better post 1994, and then my local cricketing career(well sort off) took off among with my academic credentials.

Growing up in a small town of Indian Punjab in 1990s was a really fun and simple time. These were the things I did as a kid :

1. Taping Cassettes of Gurdas Maan's music and listening on Stereo all day.
2. Spending hours of times reading and buying Comic Books like Doga/Parmanu/Nagraj/Super Commando Dhruv
3. Playing Cricket in the Grounds trying to emulate Sachin or Dravid as a batter and Kumble/Warne as a bowler.
4. Going to the Khets(nearbly Farmlands) to Tubewells for Bathing and enjoying.. Like a Punjabi Spa Experience with Coldest possible Water.
5. Worrying about notorious Punjab Board Exams(aced them all though).

After 20s I moved out of Hoshiarpur and my Studies and Work has taken me to around 40+ Countries accorss continents. But, I do make a point to spend my maximum time(3-6 months) in Hoshiarpur. Have not bought any property anywhere and currently building a dream house in my home town, where I will retire past 50 and just chill, may be teach Software Engineering skills to the locals and just eat lots of local food.
That's the plan, anyways.
