What's new

Am I the only one absolutely furious with the Champions Trophy schedule?

Champions Trophy 2013 in England between 6 and 23 June

Now

Champions Trophy 2017 in England between 1 and 18 June

I'm sure everyone and their next door neighbor remembers the flop tournament that was Champions Trophy 2013, not because of mediocrity but because of RAIN.

Instead of learning from their mistakes, ICC schedules the same tournament in the same country during the same time span!!!

Forget minor anger, my blood downright starts to boil when I think about the schedule, do they honestly believe rain will not come this June and ruin the tournament once again just like it did 4 years ago?

Champions Trophy is no joke, It's up there right after World Cup, someone please tell me something positive about this absolute mess so I can somewhat calm myself down.

Winning toss becomes very important again. Chasing on rain hit game....

I agree with u regarding rain but the tournament is a smash hit.

Everybody loved the format and requested icc to continue champions trophy when icc said 2013 would be the last time champions trophy will be played.

But?

When did I say the tournament wasn't a hit? What I said was the 2013 tournament in particular wasn't a hit because of rain.

Sir the previous tournaments before that one are disasters in terms of tv ratings and star was losing money big time on it. Star said they will not bid for champions trophy any more. Thats why icc decided to scrap it and only on seeing the ratings and public response after that tournament icc brought back champions trophy

Rains pretty random, just because it rained at that time last year doesn't mean it's guaranteed to do so again this year.

It's also being held at more or less the same time as the 1999 world cup and 2009 t20 world cup were. Between them in in 69 matches there was 1 abandoned (and even in that game 65 overs were bowled) and 3 shortened in some way due to rain.

The 2019 world cup will also be played throughout June as well (and into the start of July).

Ratings/response depend on how well India does.

It is the least important ICC trophy and they have tried to get rid of it in the past. For England, their Test season is more important than the Champions Trophy, and they will be playing 4 Tests vs South Africa in July. England would happily lose all Champions Trophy matches if it mean beating South Africa in the Test series.

It rains all the time in England.

Nothing wrong with scheduling it in June.

Didn't you call Champions Trophy a meaningless tournament few days ago? Lol now its a smash hit? :shezzy

With the squad we are about to send it is better if Pakistan's games are washed out. That is the only way we can save face.

Expect another mauling like 2013. Oddly enough some of the biggest culprits of that debacle are back in the side.

Thank you Inzi :salute

Don't be furious, rather, respect the weather's contribution to Pakistan's solitary World Cup.

Can't do anything about it. There are test series right before and right after the CT and England is a great place to hold ICC tournaments. The atmosphere is especially good with all teams having an ample amount of support. Let's just hope it doesn't rain.

in England rain can come anytime of the year. Although the 2013 June was wet and rainy even by our standards. we have had decent summers the last few years so hopefully that trend will continue.

Its the UK mate - the month has nothing to do with how much it rains :inzi

If you want to avoid rain - June, July & August are your best bets.

Just wait until you find out where the 2019 World Cup is going to be held. ;)

Lol.

In Aberdeen sometimes half of our club games are rained off.....

Exactly man - down here in the central Scotland belt, when I use to play club cricket, there was a 60-70% chance that your game would be rained off.

TBH - I find the OP's anger at some good old British weather hilarious :)) Join the club brother!
