Amir Khan beats Billy Dib to claim WBC international welterweight title [Post#65]

The story I do prefer though is the idea that someone called Khan pretending to be Pac's agent and came and signed the deal...would be epic trolling if true...poor guy got catfished...

Unfortunately the truth is probably that Amir lives in his own reality...

Or the other narrative to go with is Pac is ducking Amir after seeing what happened to the mighty Dib...

This is seriously embarrassing from Khan, which makes me wonder whether he got anywhere near the £7million he claimed he got for the Dib fight.

This is seriously embarrassing from Khan, which makes me wonder whether he got anywhere near the £7million he claimed he got for the Dib fight.

Im sure he did, it's the Arabs.

Khan also prematurley announced a fight with Floyd but when Floyd found out Khan had announced it before he did, the fight was off. Maybe the same thing has happened here or Khan could just be keeping his name in the spotlight against well known great boxers. In boxing this happens all the time, nobody will hold it against him.

The British boxer of Pakistan origin Amir Khan, who is adamant to fight Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao, has admitted that he is thinking of retirement, UK tabloid Daily Star reported on Sunday.

Khan secured a knockout win against Australia's Billy Dib to claim the WBC international welterweight title in Jeddah this month. After winning the title, he had claimed a deal to fight Pacquiao had been secured, citing November 8 and Saudi Arabia to be the date and venue of the big event.

Pacquiao's camp was quick to dismiss the claim, however.

"I was just told what to say in the press conference by my advisors. I think it was all very badly handled," Khan was quoted as saying by Daily Star.

"I just think the only way a fight like that will happen is if me and Pacquiao sit together and talk. Well see if it happens next year. We both know its a big fight which can make a lot of money.

"Look, its the final chapter now. A couple of more fights — honestly. I've done well in the sport financially, winning titles and making a name for myself. It's all about now just enjoying the last bit — the last few fights — and just calling it a day really," he said.

Khan his health and family was everything for him. "Everything you do is for your family. I want to be in one piece for when I'm spending time with them."

"You're always just one punch away from getting hurt. I never want that one punch to land on me, you know? Before its too late [...] so lets see how it goes."

Last weekend, Pacquiao became the oldest welterweight champion in history. The 40-year-old defeated WBA Super champion Keith Thurman in a split decision in Las Vegas.

According to Daily Star, Khan is adamant he would offer a far tougher challenge for the veteran.

“I’ve worked with him for years and years — I know him quite well,” he added.

“I think honestly I’d give him a lot of problems. He fought Thurman who’s got slow feet and slow hands.

“With me he’ll have a lot of problems because I move my hands fast, have better footwork and more head movement. I wouldn’t just stand there and get hit.

“You have to still give him credit, but he’s not the same Pacquiao he was a couple of years ago.”

Interesting thread, never knew he was supposed to find some Indian boxer.

Boxing is not popular amongst masses in India, even the ones who follow it generally follow the Olympic, Asian games, CW games etc fights of Indian boxers.

I don't think many people even knew about amir Vs Indian dude fight, there was hardly any media coverage. For sports like boxing (especially pro boxing), media hype is most important thing. If any Indian broadcaster had purchased rights to that fight, he should have hyped it to the moon using India Vs Pakistan. But apparently no one hyped it at all for some reason. This goes to show how little marker is there for boxing.

Maybe once we find a good professional boxer (next level to Vijender) we might get a good boxing viewership.

Anyways congratulations to Amir for the win .

Amir Khan has revealed a respectful conversation with Floyd Mayweather – and explained how he planned to defeat the 50-0 star.

Khan has been in the running to face Mayweather for years but a fight never came to fruition. He never came closer than 2014 when Mayweather snubbed him in favour of fighting Marcos Maidana.

"I met Mayweather at a WBC convention in Miami back in 2018," Khan told Sky Sports News. "We spoke. He was very respectful, he hugged me.

"We didn't speak about the Maidana thing ever!

"Mayweather is a funny character. He's one of those type of guys who wants to pick who he fights and be the boss and be the main headline. But when I met him face to face he was a different guy.

"He said hi to me and my wife and to my team and took pictures.

"We never spoke about why it didn't happen between us.

"He did say: 'Amir I need a dancing partner!'

"I said: 'Yo Floyd it's me who's waiting on you!'

Khan explained his method to inflict defeat on Mayweather: "Every fight we have a game-plan. For that fight it would have been hit and move.

"It would have been a game of chess.

"Mayweather is hit and move so I'd have boxed him at his own game. That's the way to beat him.

"Fighters who put the pressure on him get caught themselves. I would have boxed him at his own game.

"The Maidanas, the Ricky Hattons tried to put him on his back foot but that's what he wants.

"A good boxer is the one that would have beat Mayweather. I don't know if I would have beaten him but I would have given it a hell of a try. As a fighter I have always had confidence in myself."

Mayweather retired undefeated in 2017 by beating Conor McGregor in his 50th fight. Five years ago he won the richest fight of all time by outclassing long-term rival Manny Pacquiao, who remains a target for Khan.

Pacquiao, aged 41, is the WBA welterweight champion and beat the previously-undefeated Keith Thurman last year.

Asked if a fight with Pacquiao is realistic, Khan said: "It's hard to say. Sometimes you wait around too long for fights like Manny.

"Like Mayweather you waste so much time trying to get him to sign the piece paper that guarantees the fight is happening - you waste time.

"I've almost had 40 fights now. I am going to take my time and see what options are out there.

"If the Pacquiao option is there it would be great to get back in the gym to work towards that.

"What's left out there? The big fight with Mayweather or Pacquiao? Who knows, that's up to them to sign."

Kell Brook is another long-term rival of Khan's but an all-British fight has never materialised.

"What happened? When me and [promoter Eddie Hearn] were in talks we were talking about it at 147lbs [welterweight]. Then as the talks were going on it went quiet.

"Then we hear that he's gone up to 154lbs [super-welterweight]. He knows I would never go up a weight. I went up [two divisions] against Canelo. I said 'if I am going to fight it would happen at 147'. It was him who walked away from the fight.

"He's a respectable fighter. He's a good fighter. It would be massive in the UK. 147lbs is the weight, really. I'm not going up or down."

But Brook said earlier this month: "I've given that angle up. There's no more I can do. It's gone past the line now."

Khan, a former unified super-lightweight world champion and Olympic silver medallist, is considering retirement if his preferred fights can't be agreed.

"One or two more fights? If I get the chance to have them, I'll do them," he said. "We'll see where the world takes me, but at this moment in time I don't know."

Amir Khan says opponent Kell Brook was "always smoke, always talk" in what could be a career-defining fight for the Bolton fighter on Saturday, February 19, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

Khan and Brook's lengthy rivalry, which stems from their teenage years, will finally be settled at Manchester's AO Arena in Britain's biggest grudge match for years.

"One of the reasons why I took the fight was because of the public demand," Khan told Sky Sports. "The first press conference showed that we don't really like each other. It's war! We're going to go in there and it's going to be a fight.

"We're not friends and obviously we do dislike each other, but I'm going to show people why I'm the better fighter on fight night.

"When I do a clinical job on him and I destroy him people will realise he was always smoke, he was always talk."

Khan admits the last 10 weeks spent training with former opponent Terence Crawford and under the watchful eye of trainer BoMac in Colorado Springs and Omaha, Nebraska in the US have been "brutal".

"I know I've done everything that I've needed to to go into this fight. I'm fit, ready and strong to win this fight. It's going to be tough but I'm going to go in there and do what I do best," he said.

"I feel sharp, I feel good, the weight's amazing - I'm literally there on the weight, so I can't wait to get in the ring and fight."

Khan, who is a former unified super-lightweight world champion but has not boxed for almost three years, says he won't have any problems reaching the agreed catch-weight of 149 pounds for the big fight, which is closing in fast.

"I wanted the fight at 147, but Kell didn't want to do the fight at 147. He wanted to do 149 so obviously we had to agree with that and I agreed with it, but it gives me another couple of pounds of muscle to put on and strength so come fight night I'll be a lot more stronger," Khan said.

"Two pounds makes a massive difference. People may not realise how much of a difference it's going to make but it's going to be a little bit easier for me to make that weight and it might make things a little bit easy for me.

"It's going to be the first time where I'm going to be at a weight where I feel comfortable."

Khan has been complimented on looking lean again by his wife, Faryal Makhdoom, after the fighter admitted putting on a few extra pounds during the pandemic.

But he is now ready to walk into a UK ring again for the first time since his unanimous points victory against Colombian Samuel Vargas in Birmingham four years ago.

"It's a great fight for the fans," he said. "The fans are going to see an electric fight because both of us have trained hard and we've talked a lot about this fight so I'm sure Kell's going to be ready as well because not only is he's not only going to talk and not come in in shape for this fight - I'm sure he's going to be more than fit and ready."
