What's new

And so it begins.........

Yes, the coach should contact the board before selecting a team each game.

What an absurd post.

Calm down warrior. The coach need not contact the board, but a coach has no business telling a player that the coach is unsure of his place in the team. The coach does not wakes up from a dream & realises that a certain player fits nowhere. If that was the case, he shouldn't be in the squad.

Selecting a player in a game is coach's prerogative & he is well within his rights to drop someone, but such communications which affect a player's long term career must be communicated to the board, & not to a player on an overseas tour.

But than again, when has Pakistan cricket followed professional ethics & textbook management rules?

I have no issues if coach feels a certain player doesn't fits in the team, in-spite of being one of few batsmen who've done decently on an otherwise failed tour, but pray tell me, why would any coach reveal that directly to a player, & not the board, that too in the middle of an overseas tour?

Seriously? It is every coach's JOB to communicate clearly and directly with his players. If a certain player is being dropped for a few games, he would naturally want to know the reason he's being dropped. And if that said player is 37 years of age and at the end of his career, the coach has to be direct with him. He can't say 'Oh I'll tell you after the tour's finished.' Mickey's not in the wrong here. Hafeez has been a consistent passenger in the side against quality opposition, especially without his bowling.

Its a coach right to tell players if they're not in his plans or not in the team. He does not have to run to the board during a series to ask for their permission. He will do that after the tour or before the next tour when the selection committee selects new players. Even if he had not selected Hafeez all your keyboard warriors will be criticising him and saying how a coach should be honest with the players.

Looks like Saj was correct with the friction/kick off aspect of this story.

Good thing the coach has stood his ground, and the players have in-turn responded by playing their best game of the tour.

I think if the coach had given in to this situation, then that could have set a dangerous precedent and other players could have tried their luck.

I was watching on TV, it was mentioned that there was a huge fight in the team involving the coach, captain, Hafeez and some junior players and apparently Hassan Ali misbehaved with Sarfaraz.

Is this correct? The PCB needs to sternly come down hard and make it clear to the team who is in charge

If the team has indeed made a conscious decision to move on from Hafeez then Malik should go as well. Can't have double standards. The real question is that is it perfect to go in with a total rookie team? Every team has 1-2 senior experienced players

Pakistan cricket's history is rife with PCB backing the wrong side in these disputes. Thankfully this time, the fight is over a player of hafeez's pedigree.
With all due respect that's not much of a fight.

It has been confirmed by all the media outlet that it was Hafeez and he is been contacting everyone he knows in Pakistan...

Even Hassan Ali wasn't too happy yesterday when Sarfraz was yelling... Hassan Ali ignored him like Sarfraz is a water boy or something...

Lol, that is being blown out of proportion. Hassan got whacked for 4. Sarfaraz was unhappy and came running down to the bowler, mouthing off at him, Hassan listened and then walked back to his bowling mark while Sarfaraz kept barking. Nothing wrong with Hassan here.

Sarfraz needs to understand that if he is gonna keep barking on players then players will start ignoring him sooner or later... Never seen Dhoni yelling on anyone during the game, maybe once during the IPL but still.

Someone needs to tell him FGS dont yell at the front of stump mic

Next time Hassan will tell him to sod off and concentrate on his own game.

Saj your completely right!

But also Hafees only makes the team if he can bowl otherwise does not hold same value! Am glad mickey Arthur atlesst thinking and planning for the World Cup

I think it was just Hasan's frustration getting the better of him. Don't think he can do that though.. Did you see what Sarfraz did after Hasan eyeballed him? I doubt Hasan will ever replicate that again.

Strong leaders lead from the front and by example. Sarfraz is not going to gain any respect by shouting at players especially when he has performed shockingly throughout the tour! Sarfraz has let the champions trophy get to his head. His belly and lack of fitness further add to this evidence as he thinks he has “made it” now after the champions trophy victory. The team lacks ambition and needs to be refreshed.
