Andre Russell to retire from international cricket after 2nd T20I against Australia at Sabina Park [Update @post#100]

As I said earlier, he has the talent with the bat to come in earlier. He should at least be coming in before Sammy and Ramdin.

He has it all, can bat, can bowl, can hit big, can bowl quick, is tall, has style.

Can he be the next genuine all-ropunder of world cricket after Flintoff and Razzaq???

i cant say upto razak and flintoff
but he is very very good allrounder,

42 from 13. Pure muscular hitting.

Also a potentially match winning innings.

Nope, he is not even a potential superstar. Pakistani bowlers are just rag dolls.

he killed bowling of saffers few weeks ago so its not just us..

he may not be a complete superstar but still a brutal brutal hitter.

Do you mean that batting paradise in SA where teams try and score 400? Did he score 42 off 13 on that occasion?

that's a pretty weak argument, AB made the fastest century in SA let's not count it since he made in a batting paradise.

Russell made 63 something chasing and winning the match for West Indies that's a remarkable feat no matter what kind of pitch.

De Villiers is a superstar because he regularly wins matches for SA. He does not need to prove himself by smashing a century on a featherbed. He would have been a superstar even if he had not done that. Now hoe many matches has Russell won for the Windies? Not many I suspect, because WI have not won many matches full stop.

First of all, I'm never said whether Russel is complete matchwinner or superstar.

I simply said he is a remarkable hitter.

However he is definitely starting to pick up steam in the last few matches by hitting that matchwinning 63 odd runs vs SA and today he made a potentially match winning 43 runs. It's a sign for things to come now whether we can really say Russell is matchwinner or not that time will tell but he is certainly showing the steel.

Russell has 5 MOM awards in 45 matches. That's 1/9 which is extremely high and even more stunning when you look at how little WI win and how late he bats. He is the real deal and a true star player.

If he keeps playing as awkwardly as yesterday in international cricket he will not be remembered.

Pathetic dismissal yesterday. No game awareness at all.

He might have been the first cricketer in the world to understand his T20 value after just gaining international recognition and went on the path of leagues> International cricket.

Would be interesting to know how much money he has accumulated in the past 14 years through leagues.

He is a franchise cricket legend but wasn't anything special in international cricket. Just like Narine.

Most of the top names are West Indian in this list, and many of them played little international cricket. Howver, Andre Russel has been part of two T20i WC winning squads too so has achieved at the highest T20 level for his country too.

1752739566294.pngHe has quite a few MOTM performances in this format too.

He's had an unconventional career. To many of us more traditional fans he has probably sold himself short by playing all these leagues, but he found a niche, focussed on it, made money, brought success to his country in that format and won almost every franchise tournament going too.

LOL joke of a cricketer.
Its easy to say that, I don;t think he is a joke of a cricketer, I think cricket became a joke for sure with these random leagues, but we can't blame the player for that.

I mean if you yourself were given the choice between grinding hard for years in your current job, or getting a multi-fold pay rise to work less intensely and travel the world, it's likely you would take the second choice too.

I've started not to begrudge any cricketer who goes the franchise route. I do have something against cricketers who take the franchise route but then come on TV and moan about the national team :amir2 :imad.

His IPL income alone is way more then enough, plus next to IPL you can easily play 2 more leauges, not playing International cricket or not having the attitude for it, shows that he is a joke.

In another era Andre Russell could have walked into the great West Indies sides of the 70s and 80s. Could have taken 200 test wickets and scored 3K test runs.

Cricketers like him don't come around that often. Super fit and built like a tank, a clean hitter who can also bowl at 140+ pace, and incredible in the field. Add to that, the swagger and personality of a superstar.

Blaming an athlete who made millions on the T20 circuit instead of the pathetic 100,000-150,000 contract offered by the Windies board is just wrong.

Anybody would take a high paying easier job over a tough job with little pay and saying otherwise only makes you a hypocrite.

Paks should be happy at his retirement though.

Destroyed Pakistan in 2 World Cups - 2015 with bat and 2019 with ball in hand.
