Naqvi, who is of Pakistani and Indian descent had moved to Australia when he was four where he also earned a commercial airline pilot's license before moving to Zimbabwe.
Naqvi made his first-class debut in Zimbabwe in January 2023 for Mid West Rhinos and scored an unbeaten 140 in his maiden game, while also picking up five wickets. In July 2024, Naqvi received his maiden call-up to the Zimbabwe side for a five-match series against India, with his inclusion subject to confirmation of his citizenship status.
