Auqib Nabi is a right-arm medium-fast bowler from Baramulla, Jammu & Kashmir, who represents the Jammu & Kashmir senior team across India’s domestic formats. He progressed through age-group cricket in the state system and made his first-class debut in the Ranji Trophy, gradually becoming a regular member of the side’s pace attack. His bowling is based more on seam position, swing, and disciplined line and length rather than extreme pace, and he typically operates with the new ball or in long containing spells where control is required.
Over the last two domestic seasons, Nabi has established himself as one of the most consistent wicket-takers for J&K. In the 2024 to 25 Ranji Trophy season, he finished among the leading bowlers in the tournament with 44 wickets in eight matches at an average around the mid-teens, including several five-wicket hauls. His performances that season frequently gave J&K early breakthroughs and helped the team remain competitive against stronger sides. He followed this with another strong campaign in the 2025 to 26 Ranji season, crossing the 50-wicket mark and remaining among the top wicket-takers in the competition. Across nine matches, he collected more than fifty wickets at an average close to 13, with multiple multi-wicket innings and at least one match where he took double-digit wickets across both innings.
One of his most notable performances came in a knockout fixture where he returned match figures of twelve wickets, including a seven-wicket haul in one innings, directly contributing to his team’s progress in the tournament. Around the same period, while representing North Zone in the Duleep Trophy, he recorded five wickets in an innings that included four wickets in four consecutive balls, a rare achievement in first-class cricket and one that drew attention to his control and accuracy rather than pace alone.
In limited-overs cricket, Nabi has also contributed in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, delivering economical spells and occasional four-wicket hauls. He is used primarily as a powerplay and middle-overs bowler, focusing on hard lengths and seam movement. While not known as a specialist death-overs bowler yet, he has shown the ability to maintain pressure through tight lines.
His consistent domestic returns have led to increased recognition beyond the state level. He has attended IPL trials and secured an IPL contract, indicating that franchises view him as a reliable Indian pace option with first-class experience. As of now, he has not made an India or India A debut, but his recent seasons place him among the more productive fast bowlers in the domestic circuit.
