Good stuff by Kohli :14:

Looks like a PR stunt [although a good-hearted one at that]. The tweets following Kohli are stating it as much, as the person that "threw the rubbish" is a tv personality.

I think Virat Kohli has come a long way from the earlier times of his career when he used to behave like a spoiled brat. His personality has transformed considerably. May be Anushka Sharma has a part in his personality grooming whom he always gives the credits.

His response:

The guy often comes off a wannabe for some reason. Talking about Kohli here.

Is this Kohli's wife?

Terrible manners. If she politely said please dont throw rubbish on the floor and gave some facts regarding the damage they do to the environment etc a person may think and make a change. But the way she was gobbing off, all the chaps would go off thinking is a what a rude woman she is.

It is a good message, but there was no need of shaming the person internationally by showing his face in the video. His face should have been blurred.

Kohli and Anushka deserve the criticism they have received. They need to apologize to that person.

Why so? Name & shame was the intention. I condone their actions.

Never been a fan of Anushka's public image, luckily she is a decent actress but hate almost all her interviews.

Seems like a PR stunt above that.

I agree with the telling off, but not the post on twitter stuff. I read the post before watching the video and thought I'd hear some swearing, but she's just telling him to "please use a dustbin" in a slightly more than assertive tone.

The person in the video is clearly not a child, he knows right from wrong, and the way he typed his post, has some sort of education to know about the deteriorating pollution problem of the country and the world. He should know better than to throw out stuff from his car.

"The garbage that mistakenly went out of my car", yes mistakenly lol. Water bottle decided to jump out of the car Jason Statham style.

This dude's ego took a beating for getting called out like that is all. But Cheeku didn't need to brandish his vigilance by posting him on twitter.

She is free to tell the person off in private but has no right to publically name, shame him and show his face in the video, no one likes to be humiliated. Tommorow someone could publically humiliate Anushka or Kohli for what they believe to be right and they may not like it when it happens to them. Attention seeking stuff if you ask me

There was no need for shooting this video and shaming the person.

They are lucky that person didn't create havoc on the road otherwise this roadside arguments leads to embarrassing fights.

Kohli is may be angry because Twitter trolls has given him " biwi ka gulam" tag after this incident.

Kudos to Kohli and gal for this issue they feel strongly about .. if there's one list on which India would rank at the bottom, it would be the one on civic hygiene. The only way you can get people to stop littering is by shaming them or fining them.

No problem with what Kohli and his wife did. Whatever she said is not that rude, and the idiot who is littering deserves it. He has some nerve responding on Twitter, and claiming it was a "careless mistake" -- he is just ashamed he got caught on film, otherwise he probably wouldn't have even thought before littering again.

If the other idiot had indeed picked up a fight, who do you think would have won...him (clearly in the wrong), or the biggest personality in India?

The guy often comes off a wannabe for some reason. Talking about Kohli here.

The only (and major) issue here is that it's clear that it's not something they do regularly and wasn't just an 'spur of the moment' reaction to littering.

It wasn't a spontaneous reaction Otherwise Kohli wouldn't have have the time to ensure he recorded the whole incident

So disappointing that they are publicly shaming someone for cheap publicity

I'm sure with their combined following both could have had an equally strong impact of they had taken this up in a social media campaign consisting of a few tweets and Instagram posts

It's hard to know whether they strongly care about this or looking for cheap publicity when you have properly recorded the whole incident

Kohli and co did it in the right way. Publicly shamed someone who threw litter outside. Litter on streets bothers me a lot. And I never understand the thinking behind throwing garbage outside - just use the freaking bin.

Kohli obviously. But I was talking about those ugly spat were cuss words and derogatory terms are used shamelessly.
Riders are quite aggressive with the words here. They don't like if somebody try to preach them.

She didnt abuse anyone - atleast in the video?

Can't believe some posters actually think what Mr. and Mrs. Kohli did was wrong.

He littered publicly, right?

Why can't he be told off publicly?

Common sense has been lost in so called "morals and sensitivities"

Not sure if either one of them need any more publicity in their lives than what they already had before this incident....

Someone has to speak out. Kudos to the Kohlis for doing this

Lol @ the garbage mistakenly went out of the window.

While Mr. and Mrs. Kohli could have been more polite with the way they responded to the incident, the guy in the "luxury car" has indeed exposed his mentality in the open. He could have just apologized to the nation and promised not to do this again. Instead, he comes up with the garbage-thesuperman theory.

Let's litter Arhhan Singh's home sweet home and watch his reaction. Let's see if he is polite with us or shouts/abuses. Lol this privileged aadmi might take out a gun for all you know.

Educated illiterates.

He littered in public he was told off publically.

Those saying they could have been more polite. No one listens to polite in this part of the world.

And the idiot trying to justify himself and calling Kohli and Anushka names just dig himself a bigger hole.

Kudos to them. In this part of the world you need to shame the public to follow the laws

India is a dump, I think more people need to raise awareness of social responsibility in the that part of the world. Maybe if they had better standards at home, celebrities like Kohli wouldn't have to go to Rome to have a beautiful setting for marriage. I support him in this drive.

Their intentions maybe noble but this is not the right way to do it. There was no need for recording video and publicly shaming the person on social media.

If virat kohli's harsh judgement about him in his tweet is justified then that person's response and judgement about kohli & his wife's manners and getting hurt by kohli's tweet is also justified IMO.

I think deliberately or undeliberately Anybody can make mistake like this doesn't matter whether person travelling in a luxury car or rickshaw.

Now due to kohli that person is getting unwanted attention and flak as well.

He could have simply apologized. His initial reaction showed he didn't even realize he made a mistake. Later in his tweet, he says the garbage mistakenly flew out. This is a guy who will never learn.

Tbf Kohli just like most sportsmen isn't the sharpest tool in the shed and probably thought with his and his wife's superstar stature could get away with anything. If he and his missus does care about the environment then they should seriously consider joining a drive to eliminate plastic pollution from a India which in last couple of decades has emerged as a major threat to the environment.

That's why I respect KP for his conservation efforts to save rhinos.

But this video will make everyone in India aware of their social responsibilities so in my view it's performing a useful service.

Why so? Name & shame was the intention. I condone their actions.

There was no need of exposing his face to the world. He is not a criminal, and it was a clear case of breach of privacy.

But this video will make everyone in India aware of their social responsibilities so in my view it's performing a useful service.

Blurring his face would have had the same effect. India, and the rest of the world where his 20 million followers reside, did not have to see the face of the person to realize their social responsibility.

Kohli deserves criticism for this, and everyone who is defending him would have been livid if they were in the other person’s place. Yes littering is not right, and Kohli did well to call him out, but he is not a criminal.

There is a world of difference between telling him off publicly and exposing his face to the whole world.

The fact that Anuskha criticized him on the spot was enough. There was no need of posting it on Twitter, and even if he wanted to as a public message, he could have blurred his face.

So you are from the school of thought that the offender should not be named or shown?

You are being quite naive if you really think this would have any effect whatsoever on people's psyche.
The thing is Indians in general are quite dheet and careless when it comes to hygiene and environment. They take everything for granted and with a lot many other things to worry about petty stuff such as environment takes a backseat.

If Kohli is really serious he should start or join a movement aimed at bringing a behavioral change among the general populace, making them aware of the dangers of plastic Pollution and detrimental effect it has on ecosystem.
This might take longer than expected and would require a lot of patience on his part but that would have far more desired effect than acts such as these which seem more like a PR exercise than anything else.
But having seen his brain prowess on the field while captaining the Indian team, I put it all past him.

So you are from the school of thought that the offender should not be named or shown?

Blurring the face would have had the similar effect too.
By showing the other guy's face Kohli has made people actually question his intentions however noble they might have been.

So you are from the school of thought that the offender should not be named or shown?

Absolutely. He is being treated like a criminal. He didn’t steal, he didn’t harass and molest, and neither did he kill.

Littering is bad, but it is not a legal crime. For a country like India, with far bigger problems, it is a petty issue.

There are probably hundreds of rapists and pedos walking around in public in India and Pakistan, yet this guy is being shamed in front of millions of people for throwing a plastic can on the road.

The public shaming may seem harsh but frankly it's about time somebody took a stance about public hygiene and littering in the SC.

In areas where there's a high desi population here in the UK you see folk engage in fly tipping even though we have an organised system of weekly rubbish disposal.

It's a disgusting habit.

Kohli is living a dream life. If one could write his life with his own hands, they will probably not ask for more than what Kohli has now.

He is a millionaire at the of 29, the biggest superstar in the world of cricket and has 1.2b people at his feet. He is also married to a beautiful millionaire.

When you are living in heaven, you have the time and energy to care about petty issues.

It might sound wrong to people who are living overseas, but litter on roads is an insignificant issue in South Asian countries where there are thousands of bigger problems and issues.

Thinking of keeping the road clean will be the last thing on the mind of a person in India who cannot feed his children, cannot find a job or a buy a car.

Kohli is doing the right thing by creating public awareness, someone with his influence should be standing up for these issues, but the lack of sensitivity that he showed by publicly criticizing the individual and not just the act was extremely poor.

Probably not for the man in question. Which makes the case even more interesting, meaning that it has little to do with lack of comforts but more to do with lack of manners.

3 things, first is the yelling part and then recording it, and to then post it online. Common people don't do such things..

It's hard to know whether they strongly care about this or looking for cheap publicity when you have properly recorded the whole incident
Dude, both of them are most popular couple in India and why do they need more publicity? Such rich dudes who throw waste in public should be reprimanded and ridiculed because we Desis only understand the language of danda.

Indian actor Anushka Sharma and her husband, cricketer Virat Kohli, have reportedly been served a legal notice by the man she shamed in a recent social media post for littering in public. The post was shared online by Virat and quickly went viral. It showed Anushka scolding a man sitting in a ‘luxury car’ for throwing plastic out of the car’s window.

According to television Hindustan Times, the man, part-time actor Arhhan Singh, sent Anushka and Virat the legal notice on Saturday for shaming him on social media, and before their millions of online followers.

“Hi. My legal advisors have sent a notice to Mr Virat Kohli and Mrs Anushka Sharma Kohli. As the ball is in their court, no comments now..as in all fairness I should await their response,” Arhhan is reported to have told Zee News over text message.

In the original video, uploaded by Virat on both Instagram and Twitter and viewed close to 9 million times, Anushka can be seen confronting Arhhan and saying, “Why are you throwing garbage on the road?” When her question was met with silence, she continued, “Don’t throw garbage on the road. Please be careful.”

Virat posted the video online with the caption, “Saw these people throwing garbage on the road and pulled them up rightfully. Travelling in a luxury car and brains gone for a toss. These people will keep our country clean? Yeah right!!! If you see something wrong happening like this, do the same and spread awareness.”

Soon afterwards, Arhhan identified himself in a Facebook post, and accused the celebrity couple of abusing their popularity. He slammed Anushka for ‘ranting and yelling like a crazy roadside person’ and Virat’s ‘trashy mind’ for posting the video online.

His mother expressed concern for her son’s safety in an Instagram post. “As a mother,I would like to state that you have not only shamed my son @arhhansingh on social media by not blurring his face, but you’ve also exposed him to unwanted hostility…. and danger from fanatics for such a small thing that you claim he has done but have no proof of anyways ? I am concerned about my sons SAFTEY !!! (sic),” she wrote.

These celebs who keep crying about privacy should be the last ones to record videos of ordinary people and upload them on social media.

Am not his biggest fan but every time a celeb does a good deed it has to be a damn P.R stunt ! money and fame doesn't change everyone, some people will have difficulty accepting this because they'd sell their soul to Iblees himself the moment they made it

To be honest, if she could get away with it would be better if she got out the car and beat the hell out all those idiots. That's what you need in the subcontinent, the danda sends the best message; only way to stop people being filthy.

Credit to both Kohli and Anushka here, it also raises awareness when high profile celebs tweet something like this everyone in their country should take note.

I'm not judging him, or his wife, I'm stating what others are saying to his initial tweet/message.

Good for them to raise awareness but shouldn't it be the job of the police? In the UK it's a crime to drop litter, if caught you will be fined. I dont know if this law exists in India but if not why doesn't she and her husband lobby the government? Modi was at their wedding wasn't he?

I can understand you anger as I never drop litter but it's a bit risky going out to beat someone? She might end up in coma for her bravery. :)

No she should definitely have done that plus it's India you can probably get away with, I see nothing wrong with telling some one to pick up litter though and lobbying the government is a different matter altogether but why are people criticising something positive.

It's like someone taking a dump in Liverpool and then me saying oi! don't do that! and then you shouting at me saying bro, why don't you speak to the government about all the dumps in Liverpool, sure bro maybe I will but nothing wrong with me asking a typical scouser for example to stop doing it when seen!

If you confront someone you dont know trying to be a goody goody, unfortunately you might end up in a brawl, or worse get stabbed or shot and this is in Birmingham. You dont have to go to Liverpool as there are plenty of crackheads and roadmans nearby.

As I said Modi was at their wedding, lobby him and tell him to use offiical means to criminalise dropping litter. Once you start fining Indians , they will soon be careful. Her behaviour is arrogant. She could have said it polietly ,please dont drop litter and explained is trying to raise awareness etc. The way she went on, the guy will hate her and continue to drop litter.

The other issue these rich celebs need to think of the root cause instead of showing the world how much of a great people they are. There are millions of slums in India, has she tried to understand why they exist and why they create a lot of mess? Worrying about about a packet of crisps on the floor when you live within miles of disgusting slums seems a bit strange to me.

As I said I dont drop litter but if I was that guy. I tell her to pick up the litter herself due to her attitude and if she came out to force me physically, Mr Kohli would be living with a ugly looking wife from then on.:)

It wouldn't be a problem in Liverpool, most of them can't fight anyway and in India those guys probably would have knocked themselves out trying to throw a right cross. Plus she was in her car anyway.

She was perfectly civil and did the right thing, there was nothing arrogant about her at all even remotely; and assuming she was, even then the idiots dropping litter are in the wrong. Also, there is no use trying to reason with people with a mental problem, plus it was in the streets and the common man in India is a bit ignorant, now reasoning with someone on PP for example is different because you can have a debate.

All the other issues are a different topic and they sure have merit but she did something positive so there is no need to criticise it, for example it is similar to all the people who criticise those who do charity; sure there are root causes which need attention and no one person can solve everything but if they contribute in even a small way it is fine but if someone is trying to help or does something positive then it is not productive to criticise them plus this tweet does raise awareness in one way or the other.

Theres no need to go to Liverpool when we have rubbish in the streets of Aston, Alum Rock, Handsworth etc. Im not going to waste my time telling people to clean their streets, if they want to live a in dump it's their choice.

I will have to disagree on this one , I found her tone to be arrogant and condescending. She also video him and put him on her social media which will be seen by millions because of who she is. Raising awarness by talking down to someone and shaming them in public is wrong imo. At least blur out his face and what if he did talk back or swear at her? What was she going to do, get Kohli's bat out of the boot and start hitting him with it? I believe is she wasn't a Bollywood star and wife of Kohli, famous, rich etc she wouldnt give a damn about the litter in India. Looks like a publicity stunt to me. :)

That was an example, I wouldn't personally associate myself with Liverpool in anyway but I'll be lobbying the government to release a health warning for those who decide to enter that place. All those inner city regions are still a lot cleaner and safer then anywhere in Liverpool.

It's good that he was shamed, maybe next time this fool will think twice before throwing litter and all those who saw this video via social media. Nah, it's not a publicity stunt; that was her marriage to Virat Kohli. Here she was just being genuine, saw an idiot throw something and recorded it; we've seen this in the west to when someone is messing about and people recording them.

No they are not. I was in Aston last year, the bins weren't being collected, it was like a slum. Liverpool city centre is also a lot cleaner than Birmingham city centre. Let's please leave your issues with Liverpool out of this, it has no relevance to this topic.

He wont think twice as he is angry and filed a report to the police. Not just me but plenty of people think it's a publicity stunt.

Anyway like Aston or Liverpool, it's India, I dont live there and dont care if it remains a dump. My area is spotless, which is why I moved.

That's just a lie, Liverpool is one big dump and you're only going out to bat for them because you support their football them (something I don't understand). All those places are 10x better then anywhere in that landfill site, we had some issues with the council but they are all resolved now and our city centre is the greatest in Europe, please don't compare it to Liverpool which is basically a mini India.

Not a publicity stunt at all telling people to pick up rubbish, it's a very good deed and I commend her for it big time. We could do with someone like that in Liverpool to, keep those ignorant scousers on their toes.

I don't care about India or Liverpool either, but the second city in general is important even the areas I don't live in and they are all squeaky clean compared to Liverpool.

There was no need of exposing his face to the world. He is not a criminal, and it was a clear case of breach of privacy.

He is. It is a crime to litter in public. You could argue Anusha had no business being the policeman.

If I were her or Kohli, I would have just posted the video minus the confrontation and let law decide if he needs to be dealt with.

He's serving them a legal notice when he was caught committing a crime? :))

Liverpool is not a dump. I lived there for many years and a lot of money was spent in the city. It is actually a really nice city especially the city centre (L1 and docks). Ofcourse; there are areas that need improving but things are only getting better. I actually visited Birmigham recently and was not fond of the layout of the city; seemed very squashed and not planned well especially with the road layout. Liverpool has actually an impressive layout.

Technically it might be a crime, but it is no way comparable to the other "crimes" rampant in India. Anushka did the right thing by getting herself involved, but she did not have to be rude and Kohli did not have to film the whole thing.

Virat and Anushka had no business to post the face of the man on social media. They should have at least blurred the man's face.

Also Anushka was pretty disrespectful to the man. Talking to him like she is his superior.

Road is a public place.

Well that's epidemic of the sense of entitlement that runs through the SC.

Thought process seems to be that since we are all committing crimes of some sort, be it littering, tax evasion, or whatever, what right do you have to out me for mine.

Its what keeps us backward.

The man littered. If I remember there was a well publicised drive by the government of India to clean things up, which was well supported by the public. (Well supported in the sense that it got lots of likes and shares on social media, but in reality this is the SC and no one can be bothered to improve their civic sense). He cannot complain if he is caught and shamed.

Punishment should fit the crime. It is one thing to point out someone with no civic sense, another to shoot a video and upload it for public humiliation. These celebs can stoop to any level for good PR. What next, can I take videos of random women and upload them on the pretext that I wanted to shame them for any flimsy excuse I pretend to care about?

I visited both Manchester and Liverpool very recently. Liverpool definitely came across as the cleaner of the two. Both the streets and the air was much cleaner and the infrastructure seemed to be in better shape. City Centre Liverpool was far nicer than Manchester.

Manchester was disappointing actually. The football museum was the highlight of the trip to Manchester. People were definitely more polite in Liverpool whereas at times it seemed like knowing Punjabi was a requirement in Manchester.

Drove through Birmingham and it looked like a slum. Was happy to get out of there as soon as possible.

Both parties are equally responsible imo.
That person made mistake by throwing plastic on the road & Mr and Mrs kohli are also responsible for doing organized recording to publicly shame the person.

See how sachin handled similar situation in that helmet awareness video.

Totally agree there !

Literring is disgusting habit, everyone should be shamed publicly for this. The way man responded after being on hot seat, shows the class of that man.

Yes, hide the face of rapists but publicly humiliate someone who threw a wrapper on the street. Great logic from liberals. Only Indian liberals can come with this logic.:14:

Rapists should shamed in public even more openly with the harshest punishment. You can't jump to conclusions comparing to other ill of societies.

Nationwide shaming for throwing a toffee wrapper on the street? Where do you liberals get you moral compass from?

Nationwide shaming is there to make an example of him. I want everyone to make video of everyone who liters. Make zillion videos online and shame them. Shame all corporats. Shame everyone who involves in throwing garbage throwing. Shame every one who liters even half wrapper of toffee wrapper. Make everyone guilty of this. Deep down they should be hurt. Hurt them so much their soul will change and never liter ever, and never let anyone liter.

Yes. That's my moral compass for people who litter. I can be hypocrite for thousand other ills of society. But that's how I feel about litering, something that can easily be changed just for simple rule. Just throw the garbage to proper place. If you can't at that time, keep a bag with you, throw it later.

True face of Indian liberals ( indian being the key word here). They only like to bully soft targets. Cry for human rights for people who commit heinous crimes and want to throw others under the bus for the most minor act which deserves a fine and nothing else. Where is the sense of proportion? The most intolerant lot who like to call themselves liberals. Just for this I am going to litter on the streets from tomorrow, let me see where Mr and Mrs Kohli dare to shame me. and I mean it. No more dustbins for me anymore.

The exact attitude shown by the man who did this. Like I said showed his class. That person who was in video would have been unrecognized till he started crying on social media. These types are plenty in India as well.
