Nice actors, no words spoken but did a good job with the expressions.

What is this with Pepsi getting stronger? Is it on Coke level yet?

Pepsi always had better advertising via sport stars be it football or cricket...

And in Gulf states Pepsi was way ahead of Coke, the gap has narrowed but pepsi still leads

In rest of world coca cola leads by a good margin

Was that Tabish Hashmi? :))

I remember the good old days when Misbah and Afridi use to feature in the pepsi ads.

Btw the pepsi taste change has been terrible, i dont like it anymore. Have gotten more sore throats ever since.

Came to say almost the same, except I still think Pepsi is far ahead in most of the middle eastern countries and in Pakistan. Maybe the gap is closing in the Gulf though.

But the difference in volume of advertisements and promos of Coke in the US and I’m sure the West in general Vs South Asia / Middle East is astounding.

Almost no Pepsi ads at all in the US. None. But in Pak, every sportsman or celebrity seems to be on the Pepsi train. Random small time mom and pop restaurants all have a massive Pepsi logo outside everywhere on random streets from what I remember.

Have heard that the taste of Pepsi and coke in Pakistan is v different to the taste outside of Pakistan. They say apparently there’s added pesticides in the Pepsi / coke in Pak? Lol. Not sure.

The best tasting Coke seems to be in Mexico where they use real sugar cane and not artificial sweeteners. It has its own cult following now too

no not pesticides, Pakistanis are dumb and make up such rumors.

Pepsi and Coke taste different here because we are a sugar producing country so they use sugar here in Pakistan in its manufacturing process.

In North America, they use corn syrup as a sweetener instead of sugar, thus the better taste over there.

I always enjoyed a pepsi and coke in Canada, while the coke was light, pepsi there had more caffeine, really enjoyed it there. I prefer those artificial-corn syrup sweetners.

Pepsi has been the oldest drinks company here. Pepsi internationals target audience has always been youth, thus to associate witht he youth they use pop culture. In Pakistan, this is done by sponsering young musicians that are famous with young adults and teenagers, aswell as cricketers aswell.

Coca Cola's brand positioning is different. They dont target youth, they target families, and festive occasions. Even in their advertisement they will show the family having dinner and enjoying a bottle of coke. In Canada they would use the winter season while in Pakistan they use Ramazan to show the festive family season.

Because of this positioning and the affect this position has had, if you go to a family dinner, families will place bottler of coke and not pepsi as now in the mind of the Pakistani consumer, Coke is seen a premium cola while pepsi is seen a substandard or poor mans cola. Like at the dinner table or a hi fi restaurant, you would see a 1.5 liter bottle of Coke and not Pepsi.

The gap has reduced in Pakistan, while Pepsi is still the market leader, the positioning of Coke has been great. Plus, Coke effectively used Coke studios in the brand positioning in Pakistan aswell.

Good breakdown. I know you majored in marketing, so this was interesting.

why?, looks Multan-DG khan road.

Because of the left hand steering, i thought Pakistan was RHS like rest of South Asia

Then again the car seems like an American car from the 80s, and they never made right hand versions of many of those cars as they were only sold in USA and Gulf countries

Very interesting thread

Coca cola was actually banned in UAE and rest of Gulf during the 1980s because of some connection with Israel. They re entered the market after the first Gulf war

Also in the early noughties a couple of religion linked controversies hit coke/pepsi usage. Coca Cola was claimed to depict "La Muhammad, La Makkah" while in early noughties a viral claim was that Pepsi was short form for Pay Every Penny to Save Israel.......
I have family members who still dont have Pepsi believing that claim

In the UAE, Coke is still trailing due to the ban during the 1970s and 80s. Kids who grew up drinking pepsi/7 up buy the same for their kids
Another factor is the fast food linkage

KFC has always been more popular than McDonalds in UAE among all demographics except families with young kids who prefer McD for the Happy meals
KFC (and Hardees and Pizza Hut) are all part of the same Kuwaiti franchise in the entire Gulf, and they all offer only Pepsi while McD is Coca Cola territory as in the US.

The extremely popular Saudi Baik chain also offer Pepsi (many years back they offered coke but pepsi tool over)

:))) In pakistan we still have this rumor. It always start with some parent telling their child who then tells his mates in school.

I love pepsi and coke, wonder how many pennies i have made and will keep paying

Interesting. I believe the Sprite brand has the biggest market share in India and the Coca Cola Co. as a whole is the market leader in carbonated drinks.

Surprised that Pepsi is ahead in the Middle East
