There was a time when Anwar Ali with his 120 kph thunderbolts was opening the bowling for us.
Thank God that time has passed.
Ali is not good enough for international cricket.
remember zim series in pakistan
bhatti
anwar ali
sami
wahab
that was one of legendary bowling attack thanks god that torture is over
Can you tell me who was the captain in that series?
His bowling action has not helped him get anything out of it no inswing or outswing as atleast with his 2007 action he could get that banana inswing going.
His pace isn't much mostly 130-135kph and without any movement that is sheer batting practice for the opposition.
His batting could have saved him at least but again not consistent enough in that either as he had one or two decent enough knocks but nothing more than that.
Aqib Javed must feel great about destroying this guys career
What a waste
We have an interview with Anwar coming up.
He mentions that he suffered a serious injury which meant that he couldn't bowl with the same action any more.
I know the logic here and actually someone close to him has explained the situation
Apparenlty his action was not sustainable and he would always be prone to injuries due to it and eventually his back would have given up thus effectively ending his career at the top level
So in order to avoid that and to put less stress on his body his action went through intense remedial work and took shape in what it is today
HOWEVER my argument is this:
His modified action does ensure that he is less likely to go down to a major injury and had extended his career. But at what cost? He is now a mediocre bowler who cannot be used as an attacking option and isn't very economical either due to the pace and skill limitation.
In that case wouldn't it have been better for him to continue with his old action. Yes he might have had a shorter career but in the career he would have had he would have shone very brightly.
Is it really better to have a 10 year career of mediocrity versus 3-4 years of a career worthy of a champion?
He was a useful pinch hitter and a very good fielder but his bowling was not up to par.
He was quite literally the best example of a bits and pieces cricketer.
Had he been a top bowler - his batting and fielding potential would have been a huge bonus for us but with his pathetic bowling - his skills in other areas were not good enough to justify a place in the team as an all-rounder.
Also worth mentioning that he is very good friends with a former Pakistan captain and that definitely helped him play a few more matches for Pakistan.
