Would love to know about what teams do some of our posters play for. How was their season and share some of their experiences playing alongside ex first class cricketers at club level.
Ill start of by contributing.
I played a whole season for a club called Ealing Trailfinders in the Middlesex Championship Division 1. our club has 2 overseas proffesionals. one is from South Africa and the Other is Salil Yadav from India (Gujrat and has also been drafted for CSK in the IPL). The issue we have had the entire season is which Overseas should we select for the First XI because league rules permit only one player. Salil joined our club 2 games late, so the South African took his chance and put in countless performances which made him undroppable. Poor Salil has been ripping teams to shred in the Seconds and they have comfortably been promoted. Its a good headache to have for selection purposes but our bechara chairman is having to pay a pro cricketer for performing like a legend in the 2s!
Our First team consists of around 7-8 West Indians and mostly from Greneda and have in some form represented Greneda as well. This year's experience allowed me to play alongside 2-3 of the best players i have seen. Our Number 3 and strike off spinner Hanif Alexander and also our WK Batsman (Rumors he was selected for West Indies U-19) Lennon Lawrence. A modern day Viv richards. Amazing players and so awe inspiring. Plus they have been very good in helping develop young talent by not giving you the impression they are far better than the rest. I dont feel that I am at the level these pros play at, but the way they welcome you, encourage you, tell you to back yourself is definetly inspiring. Ive taken 13 wickets and scored over 100 runs this season playing as a number 8-9 in a team filled with pros, but a lot of it is down to these guys backing me up. our South AFrican overseas is such a quality guy. Keeps the entire team foucssed and engaged to the cause, encourages everyone and fights for his team. What you would expect from a pure South African. Aint no slip catch going past him, he will snap you up in a heartbeat at first slip.
Some other notable talents (mainly overseas players) we have played against....
Givon Christian (Old Actonions). Has played FC cricket in South Africa. Wonderful batsman and an Amazing guy. Scored 100* both times against us. We havent been able to work him out.
Faisal Naved (West Harrow). I think he has the most prolific first class record in our division as many of you will know him from Sialkot. I can say that he isnt the best overseas pro I have seen. Although he did score a 100 against us, it made me wonder that the quality of batsmen in Pakistan isnt too great simply because its middle order batsmen have flawed techniques against quality bowling at times.
