What's new

Any old readers of Imran Series Novels here?

Agree, tired of hollywood remakes and south indian remakes as well unless something like 'Drishyam'.I think scripts are improving finally but people from industry keep dropping this film waale bacche on us,now Salman Khan is launching Aditya Pancholi's Son and Suniel Shetty's daughter in a movie called HERO which is a remake of an old hindi movie called Hero of Jackie Shroff which had that awesome song Lambiee Judaii sung by pakistani singer.

lol bollywood is working like pakistani politicians where they think it's a family business and their kids deserve it :D I have seen Jackie Shroff's Hero and that Lambi Judai song by Reshma is one of my fav i still listen to it sometimes i remember had the music of this song as my phone ringtone for a year or 2 back in 2005-06 :D

Same here love that song. Was my fav childhood song and didn't know it was from a Pakistani singer till my nani told me as they like it as well.
Culturally exchanged imo between India and Pakistan were more before nowadays so much negativity is posted its just mindblowing.

Politicians of India do the same Rahul Gandhi classic example. But here not only politicians also musicians,actors,Businessmen- big business like Birla,Godrej,Reliance are still promoting their children nowhere in the world its like that.We won't see Steve Jobs' children becoming CEO in Apple or Bill Gates Children doing the same.Pathetic mindsets although Infosys and TATA are atleast trying to setup good examples lets see how far it goes.

The problem is the mindset of our people they think if they can do it their children and their grandchildren can do it as well so they don't believe in giving in chances to someone from out of the family. To give you an example of Shareef Family there at least 10-15 from this family that are currently enjoying important positions in Federal or Punjab govt.

Since this thread has already turned into favorite urdu stories thread instead of only imran series, I will also mention a few.

Dastaan-e-Amir Hamza by Maqbool Jehangir (LOTR can suck it)
Tilsim-e-Hoshruba by Maqbool Jehangir (LOTR and GOT can both suck it)
Bostaan-e-Khayal by Maqbool Jehangir
Inspector Jamshed/Kamran Mirza series by Ishtiaq Ahmad (I bet he would get banned today for some of the more extreme forewords of his novels)
Various other novels from Ferozsons (Tarzan series, Hatim Tai series, Arzang Series etc)

You mean his campaign against Qadianis? I remember those ads against Qadianis in his Novels specially of boycotting products by company owned by Qadianis like Shezan .

Yes. His views towards minorities in general almost fell in the category of hate literature. Plus he was a strong supporter of what we now euphemistically refer to as 'non state actors' and often published essays in their support.

Yea i remember those essays and ads that were part of his novels and some time small booklets use to come for free with his novels that had that specific literature you are mentioning. IIRC he had another bro as well who use to write another Inspector series his name was Arsalan or something like that.

I still remember some characters from Jamshed/Kamran series like Jeetal Jeeral etc Inspector Kamran was from East Pakistan.

Epic song, very favorite of mine.

Some days back mine elder bro told me India is releasing very fine movie name as brothers ( i am not fan of bollywood so don't know ) so i checked the trailer, and i said impulsively it is taken from English movie Warrior. Same like bang bang movie e.t.c
there was a time when i was in love with bollywood movies, like Kal Ho Na Ho, movies from 90 era, but suddenly the quality is so much dropped that now i only watch English movies.
Some of mine friends from India told me that majority of Indians don't prefer serious type of movies, they like action and all. True?

Yes it's from Warriors but the good thing about Bang bang and Brothers is that they actually took the rights to make the film unlike the Bhatts who shamelessly copy the movies and then ask for Hollywood to be banned in India or restricted.

Majority Indians have a harsh life so when they pay for a movie they prefer something entertaining without common sense ,something unreal.
But things have gotten better since 2009 when Dev D became a hit, except for Salman,ShahRukh,Akshay most Bollywood movies are becoming better but still 10 years to go where commercial cinema will also have good scripts.

On serious cinema i think only Malyalam,Bengali and some Tamil film artists are able to make serious cinema which their audience also appreciates. Drishyam is a must watch incase you get time.

Monarchial attitude of Desis will remain forever. Lankans in this aspect are better than us.

Ibn-e-Safi was the original author. Mazhar Kaleem,Safdar Shaheen and a plethora of other writers produced knock-offs of the Imran Series. There was a day light difference between them and the original despite the same characters and being set in, more or less, the same universe. I've read both Ibn-e-Safi and Mazhar Kaleem so I'm doing a small comparative analysis underneath.

MK's Imran was a very cruel character. During interrogation, for instance, he would lacerate a chair-bound suspect and sprinkle salt, spices and lemon juice into his wound and eyes. Or he would promise complete immunity to the suspect (if he confesses) only to later shoot him and throw his body into a 'barqi bhatti' (Electric furnace).

Those knock-off stories were also highly action-oriented with plenty of explosions, gunfights and high-tech gadgets. Poker and Bridge games would often end up in a pile of dead bodies. High-octane stuff and very enjoyable if one's looking for fast-paced literature. Somewhat analogous to movies like Rambo, The Expendables etc.

Ibn-e-Safi's Imran series, on the other hand, read bit like a John Le Carre novel. Slow paced, lots of dialogue and intelligent conversations, very humorous and little action. Very often, a conclusion to the story would be reached after four novels (or sometimes even more). So you couldn't pick up a random novel and expect the plot to make sense.

Ali Imran was a hilarious character. He would act all dim-witted and stupid in front of his Secret Service colleagues. But he also commanded them as X-2, the Chief of SS. Interestingly enough, none of his colleagues were aware of X-2's identity so the dual cover worked beautifully for Imran.

Imran was a fast-learner and very observant. He used to dodge bullets for fun, a skill he learnt by observing his arch-nemesis Sing Hee doing the same.

Julia Fitzwater, Theresia, Black Zero, Jameson and Zafar ul Mulk..... brings back a lot of old memories :)

Wow! That's an amazing collection you got there! For some reason I always read him as Prince of Dhimp instead of Dhump.

Imran's chef (bawarchi) knew that Imran is X-2. Forgot his name. In fact once when the group become susceptible that Imran is X-2 and held Imran when X-2 is coming in a meeting, then the bawarchi double as X-2 to keep X-2's identity secret.

Ishtiaq Ahmed the author of famous Inspector Jamshed, Inspector Kamran and Shoki brother series died today because of a heart attack. He was like a legend for the kids of 70s and 80s and i will rank him second only to Ibn e Safi when it comes to writing spy novels in urdu.

RIP legend!

I saw him in last Saturday at book fair in expo Karachi... He was giving signed copies of his novels to the readers..
