Hey guys, I wanted to ask everyone here what their thoughts are on ways to improve your line and length at bowling for medium pace bowlers. Also improving your speed and strength. If anyone has any practice tips, or suggestions, im all ears :)

Don't go after speed, first get your basics and line&length right, once that is sorted out then speed will come itself.

Speed always comes with practise. Strength will come from working out in the gym on your shoulders, chest, biceps and triceps. First try to improve the line and length. Always aim at the wickets or the batsmen's feet. Not too far down the leg side. At the same time you have to start your variations. Experiment on different swings when you practice and work on them. Try to keep around 4-5 different types of variation which can be used in an over. Finally, the most important thing is to do all these things and feel natural whilst bowling. Do it in your own style but keep it in within cricketing laws. Hope it helps.

This has to be the best part, seriously!

I will tell you story of myself, when I started playing in 2009 I used to have Harmison/Flintoff style action and I believe that was natural and my bowling that year was very very good, pace, line and length everything was good but didn't get any chance to bowl in matches. So I got dishearten and never focussed on bowling and now every other day I bowl with new action, I sometime bowl with Akhtar, Amir etc action not consistent at all!

So what Waleed Bhai said is very good and important don't mess up your action like me.

thanx

Thank you guys. I'm actually a left handed bowler. I'm still trying to figure out how i can practice to make sure my line and length is where i want it to be everytime. But I'll definitely listen to your advice. The guys i play with, told me that i have a wasim akram action which to be honest the best compliment that anyone can get lol. So now im even more motivated to maintain the arm action and get my bowling in proper L&L

what about leg spin i was ownage until i ripped off my index and pinky finger nails and since im not able to control line and legnth consistently

anyways, i suggest you find your preferred run out so you feel comfortable when your about to bowl. because if your run up is too short, as you approach the white line, you start to shorten the gap between your steps so you dont overstep. this then leads to your mind not focusing on the ball and instead the white line so you are probs gonna bowl a shocker. if your run up is too long, you will get to your maximum pace but then slow down a bit which will give you a bigger chance to overstep. you want a run up where you can reach and maintain your maximum pace

^confusing

sounds painful.

think anyone asking for bowling tips would get a lot more input- at least better input IMO if they could make a movie of themselves bowling a few balls......any chance of that Fahad?

I am a member of Pitch Vision Academy and I have actually done training for spin bowling.

There are 2 key important things to concentrate on and that's it!

Action (including run-up, balance while releasing ball etc) and Length.

Forget everything else you have heard, learned etc. etc. Start fresh. Focus on one action and that's it. Make it yours.

As for the length, I practiced by drawing a circle with chalk.

Once you done the above mentioned two, you will automatically have control over the line. And last thing is speed, which will also come to you naturally.

Remember, a smart bowler is far more superior and dangerous than a fast bowler.
