Are England superior in home conditions or is the opposition simply weak?

They pretty much sent SA packing and doing the same with West Indies. Superior team which could take care of any opposition in any conditions or simply kings on their home soil?

King on their home soil but no different to the other sides who are lions at home and kittens away. South Africa were the best travellers but I fear they are in decline now. It will be very interesting next year to see India and Pakistan in England. Surely Pakistan should get 3 tests at least unlike the suggested 2. If anything both India and Pakistan should get 4 each

They aren't even that strong at home. Lost a series to Sri Lanka, lost a test to India, lost two tests to Australia and couldn't beat Pakistan. Australia, India and Pakistan are better at home.

They certainly aren't good away from home. They couldn't win the series in WI, lost a test in Bangladesh, and couldn't win a test in the UAE or India.

Both SA and WI have weak batting lines. They cannot play the moving ball, and England have been blessed with some seaming wickets this year.

SA are much weaker than they were before, going through a rough patch. WI lose to everyone everywhere pretty much.

England are a very good test team atm. Two world class batsmen in Root and Cook. Bairstow is also very good. Then two really good all rounders, and in general a very good pace bowling attack. They will beat the majority if not all at home, and will contest away. Similar boat to India really, though India are probably more prolific at home and in asian conditions in general.

I don't think there is any team that will consistently do well away and home anymore since SA have declined.

Agree with this, but I do think the current England side is better than before, they seem like a team on the up unlike SA. I think the England side is superior to the Pak side now YK and Misbah are gone. England did win against SA in Sa though, have to be given credit for that.

I don't think any side is really amazing, the top sides are mainly a bunch of teams which do well at home and poor away. India is the most prolific at home while still pretty much equal to the ability of other teams away from home and hence deserve no.1.

Test cricket is really boring these days, too one sided, too home biased. Last really gripping series for me was Pak-England in England.

If you sort by W/L at home in the last 3 years,

Eng has done fine, but not shown dominant performance like many other teams at home. Only SL, WI and Zim have done worse at home. Pakistan has done better in UAE than Eng in Eng.

Whats the W/L ratio for Pakistan during same period? Its not showing for Pakistan.

That's because the filter only calculates 'home' games and Pakistan doesn't play at home.

Pakistan has a W/L ratio of 3.5 in UAE in the last 3 years. 7 wins and 2 losses in 11 Tests.

I don't think they are that good at home - they got a depleted SA side, which suffered injury as well & loss of Amla's form didn't help either. Yet, SAF won 1 toss & won the match with 200+ margin. Don't think they'll give much fight to Aussies down under.

Our result is inflated for 3-0 win against ZIM & rain washed out 3 matches against IND, SAF; but apart from that Poms are easily inferior to IND, AUS, PAK & probably SAF as well. Away from home is even worse.

SA are a side undergoing transition.

n WI are cannon fodder at this level

Not sure I rate Pak over England anymore. I used to, but we've lost Misbah and YK. Also unhappy we lost a lot of games even at home that we shouldn't, drew against New Zealand, SA, dropped a test against WI, dropped a test against Zimbabwe in Zimbabwe, drew against SL. All these games/series I felt we had the ability to win. I felt we were the better side too when we played England in England, but we walked away with a draw as we didn't keep our nerve in the 3rd test when the draw really was for the taking. I'd like Pak to become more consistent and cut out those type of losses. We haven't played too much home cricket in recent past, but when we did (or years before when we did) losses kept cropping up more frequently at home than compared to say 2011 and around that time when we were sweeping teams in the UAE.

They are strong at home but far from invincible, despite the fact that this is the ultimate era for home-bullying.

England are a good test side at home with a good core of experienced players and usually series comes down to who bats better in at times conditions helpful for bowling. England have a good attack and there batting is flimsy at times but they are usually slightly better against moving ball then touring sides so they tend to win more games. Interesting once cook, anderson and broad go home england will then fair as a test side at home. To much reliance at times on handful of players to win games.
