Are insecure PSL captains cause of concern for PCB? (Shadab and Imad not playing spinners in past)

I always felt that certain captains dont play players on purpose as they might feel threaten of their own spot in the national team.

For example, when Imad was captain in Karachi Kings we did not see many spinners get to play there. The likes of Usama mir or Umar were sidelined.

Now Shadab has done something similar in ISB aswell. Ever since Shadab was made captain, Zafar Gohar has barely played a game. Even if he took a 4ver in the past for ISB, he wasnt given the required games to play.

Last season when there was space to play another spinner Shadab did not use him.

This year around, ISB has got a player called Mubashir Khan, who can bat and also bowl offspin. A pure allrounder. He bowled only one over last game which was not well bowled but could had bowled another but Shadab never bought him on.

Do you think the growth of some of the youngsters or there chance to play international cricket could be stalled due to such captains who might be insecure?

Can PCB do something to address this, or is just free for all for the franchises?

Why not attack Babar for not playing Farhan at 3? A position that either he or Rizwan will have to make way towards for Fakhar Zaman

Sharjeel is already pairing with Babar, there is no where else Farhan could be adjusted and one down is best.

Atleast Babar is playing Farhan in the team..

No Babar doesn’t want to play Farhan in the side, the pressure to play him is immense and he still doesn’t want to bat him before nobody’s like Clarke and Lemonby.

Babar can see the writing on the wall, he will have to bat at 3 in T20i and Farhan is a proper candidate for that position too if he plays as well as he does in the national cup in that position.

again, just three games are enough to judge. Also at international level, Babar has the final say and no one is going to be removing Babar anytime soon. If Babar had an issue than even Fakhar Zaman would had not been in Pakistan team.

Exactly.

Babar putting Gregory and Amir Yamin ahead of an in form opener says it all. Too afraid to lose his spot, and that’s why I think players who have central contracts should not be captains in the PSL. It’s a conflict of interest. They try to prevent others from doing well so their spot in the national team isn’t under threat.

Not sure there are any real solutions other than non-playing management being solely responsible for team selection, which in itself causes other problems.

The sidelined players may simply have to wait for their chance on other platforms. However it could be a positive. Rizwan was behind Walton for so long, it made him a monster. It may not be a bad thing to have insecure captains indirectly motivating the players they are leaving out.
