It’s a timeless debate—and one that’s been echoing through generations. Even Socrates complained about youth being disrespectful and indulgent over 2,500 years ago.

📌 What’s changed?

Parenting styles have shifted from authoritarian to more empathetic and child-centered approaches.

Material abundance and tech access have increased, making instant gratification more common.

Limits and discipline are often less rigid, but that doesn’t always mean kids are “spoiled”—some argue it’s about fostering emotional intelligence and autonomy.

📌 What hasn’t changed?

Every generation tends to view the next as more entitled or less resilient3.

The idea of “spoiling” often reflects adult expectations more than actual child behavior.

So, are kids more spoiled today? Maybe in some ways—but it’s also possible we’re just seeing a different kind of upbringing, not necessarily a worse one.

Do you agree?

Yes 100%

I blame easy access to internet, smart phones and social media is responsible for it.

When I was in school decades ago, we walked miles, some kids rode their bikes, stand in front of a primary school and see how many kids come on their own to School?

Kids called each other, fatty, shorty, 4-eyes whatever and got into fist fights and it was normal, now a days you get reported and marched into the office.

Yes. Big time.

I feel like people from boomer generation were soft with kids. Many millennials and Gen Z have massive behavior issues. I say that as a millennial. :yk

Dopamine overload for today's youngsters is ruining their brain plasticity.

Shame on you, Steve Jobs.

Shocking diktat in Rajasthan: Village panchayat bans daughters-in-law and young women from using smartphones

After discussions among panch members and community members, it was decided that daughters-in-law and young women would exclusively use keypad phones for calling.

Jodhpur:
A village panchayat in Rajasthan's Jalore district has decided to ban daughters-in-law and young women from 15 villages from using camera-enabled mobile phones from January 26. Under the new rule, women will also be prohibited from carrying mobile phones to public events or even to a neighbour’s house. They will be permitted to use only basic keypad phones instead of smartphones.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Chaudhary community held on Sunday in Gazipur village, chaired by Sujnaram Chaudhary, president of the 14 pattis (subdivisions).

Speaking to news agency PTI, Chaudhary said the announcement was made by Panch Himmtaram. He explained that after deliberations among panchayat members and the community, it was agreed that daughters-in-law and young women would be allowed to use keypad phones solely for calling purposes.

School-going girls who require mobile phones for educational needs may use them only at home. They will not be allowed to carry phones to weddings, social gatherings, or even while visiting neighbours, Chaudhary further explained.

In response to the opposition regarding the panchayat's decision, Chaudhary clarified that this measure was taken because children often use the mobile phones of women in their households, which may negatively affect their eyesight. He noted that some women give their phones to children to keep them distracted, allowing them to focus on their daily chores.

How?

My parents said that my grandparents used to tell them that they had food to eat 2 times a day and shelter and a bicycle and were spoiled as my grandparents did not have any of those things and the freedoms.

Funny part is, my grand parents used to say that moves back in 50’s and 60’s were bad because the hero was touching the heroines hand. It is corrupting their kids(my parents).

My parents told me that we are spoiled as we never worried about food or shelter and watch tv and movies at will. Not to forget the songs with double meanings and the bastion wala songs were corrupting our generation.

Now me as a parent and many of my friends believe kids are addicted to social media and it is corrupting their mind.

In 20 yrs, when my kids become parents, they will also say that the VR and AI are corrupting their kids.

The cycle continues. The issue is not with the generation gap. It is the inability of humans to adopt to the changing world. People are comfortable in settings that are familiar to them. Anything outside of their comfort zone is immediately treated like a threat.

Bottom line, Adapt and move on. We cannot hide our kids from the changing world. :mv
