Struggling to think of any like that who is not a mainstay in the ODI team but plays T20's and Tests :13:

Anyone you folks can think of?

And not because the others are better than him. We are hell bent on giving the 3rd openers slot to Rahane  If he was given a proper go for a couple of series as an opener he might even upstage Rohit or Dhawan.

I think, KL & DM will make the ODI team in future - it's just a matter of an open slot in those 2 formats, earlier than T20.

But, if I can recall correctly, only player in history who was selected (& played) for Test & T20 of a series but not ODI, I believe was Imran Farhat. That time, I wrote that he is an unique athelete, who runs for 100 metres & 1500 metres, but not 400 or 800 ...

You do realize that Rahane plays only if one of Rohit/Dhawan is injured or rested. So no, India doesn't always play him.

1st player, not only player. Dawid Malan also was selected only for tests & T20Is against West Indies, but not for ODIs

Imran Farhat is who I was thinking of to

I don't think I've ever hated a cricketer as much as I hated him. The nepotism was at its peak then

David Malan, has played t20 and test match, yet to debut in ODIs

KL Rahul & Dawid Malan

Thanks for the Dawid Malan reference - did not know he had played in Tests before and not ODI's

KL Rahul finds himself from being the 3rd in line in ODI's to being dropped from the team. It is strange that Kohli tried to fit him at number 4. KL had all his success opening the batting for India, now with India hell bent on making Rahane succeed in ODI's KL might find himself out of favour unless he transforms himself to a middle order batsman. With Manish Pandey and host of young players vying for that middle order spot, his work his for sure cut out.
