Are there any other capable (untried) number 3 batsmen for Pakistan in Tests?

So he has retired from LOIs but one never knows what happens in the future, hence the title mentioning Tests!

Who can replace Azhar at the No 3 position (given he is not opening anymore)

Usman Salahuddin, Sami Aslam, Shaan Masood?

Usman Salahuddin got bad reviews from us fans when he came on

Babar or Haris should bat at 3. If the think tank want to bat Azhar at 3 he should be dropped. National treasure won't be dropped and he will open so Azhar should be dropped for SA series if he doesn't get a big score.

Off course there is. Babar failed in AUS, so they dumped him at 6, but he is far better prospect than the current NWM killing momentum every time. Before AUS tour, Babar’s 91* from #3 is easily the best innings in recent times, by a PAK batsman in difficult condition. AUS tour isn’t easy for first timers - Dravid in 1999 had a poor AUS tour but he wasn’t dumped by IND like this, that’s a major difference.

I think he will move up the order eventually. I would have liked to see him get 1 more UAE series at 3 but I think he will bat at 3 eventually anyway.
