Are we wasting Sohail Khan's power hitting prowess?

Can he be that guy. He has that character to him. The guy we've been crying out to bat in the last 10 overs of the game. We've been deprived of pinch hitters for years and Lala really didn't amount to anything in his latter years. The way he made those 60 odd runs in England had me mightily impressed, he hits the ball so effortlessly and cleanly. Are we wasting his talent in limited overs cricket. I would sacrifice Azhar if it meant having him regularly in the team. I love his guts.

He'll cost us more runs in the field than he'd get with his power hitting. What's the point.

Would make a great #8. I would have him in place of Shehzad, especially for the champions trophy where we need a 4th seamer. Hafeez can open and every other batsman can move one place up. Imad at 6, shadab at 7 and Sohail at 8 would give us a decent lower order

As always at PP forum, the player not selected is the best. The moment he is selected, he becomes useless. We should look towards younger players, Sohail's fitness is not of international standard at all.

His fielding and fitness is an issue. Because of his fitness his bowling drops down after 6-7 overs. Having said that if they are managing kamran fatso and have managed irfan tallso then can have one fielder like sohail in the team whose productivity is more compared to kamran. If he increases a bit pace then he will surely be in.

He can play at No.8 as the 4th seamer, otherwise we should stick with 3 spinners and 3 fast bowlers.

Mickey Arthur and Azhar Mahmood are destroying him.

He's bad for Tests, but a great option for T20s/ODIs, where he's extremely handy with the ball and can whack some at the end.

But, his batting isn't that great -- Malik-like against pace bowling.

he should be in ODI+T20 squad. Hoping he has a good Pakistan Cup he should be in CT squad, already has success in England

He's a great T20 player, carried Karachi Dolphins bowling to the domestic T20 final year after year but the out of sorts Sami was always more focused on within the Karachi bowling unit.

Around 2008-2009 he set the record for most wickets in a first class season but the emergence of the Amir kept Sohail out. He got a test again Sri Lanka where 600 plus was scored in the first innings and 700 plus in the next. Younis scored a triple, and there were two more doubles and another century by kamran in the game too. He was over bowled and got injured and lost his pace. In 2011 he got another one off test, on a dead Zimbabwe wicket where he bowled admirably but was under bowled especially in the 2nd innings where he got 6 overs.

He worked with Rashid Latif playing for Port Qasim, and became possibly the best exponent of outswing in the country. He made his comeback in a world cup opener against India and picked up a 5 wicket haul. This only happens in people's fantasies. Got the rampaging Abd out against South Africa to turn the game for us at a crucial juncture. Got Finch out early in the quarter to give us a great start. Got injured as fast bowlers do after the world cup and the short memories of Pakistan fans helped most of us forget about him.

On his comeback to the test team he came in and picked up another 5 wicket haul to bowl out England cheaply and we went on to get a big first innings lead, which we of course squandered and then collapsed on the final day. Even then he batted bravely and almost took Pakistan close to a draw with only 12 overs left in the game.

The very next game he took another 5 wicket haul to bowl England out for a modest total and we went on to get a massive first innings lead and win the test but everyone forgot about Sohail with Younis and Yasir's performance.

He showed his batting ability against New Zealand when our whole top order collapsed with a 40 odd which brought us slightly back into a game we were completely out off, and then along with Amir and Rahat got NZ out without conceding a big lead. Later against Australia he showed his batting ability with a great fifty and looked good for a hundred only to get run out after a bad call by Azhar. He was also our best bowler in the game on a completely flat deck with the best figures amongst our bowlers.

Also turns out being the top wicket-taker in the psl with a Karachi team that lost its first 3 games and usually didn't have many runs to work with considering players like Gayle ate up dots balls on vacation. Still didn't get picked for the t20 squad.

He's top heavy and stiff, he can't bowl a 3rd or 4th spell properly. Don't play him in tests, play him in T20 where he's also a solid lower order hitter, smashed a first baller for 6 in the psl during a tense chase, he can hit from the word go. He has the knack of getting 5 wicket hauls which none of our current bowlers apart from Hasan seem to have. 5 wicket hauls are the mark of great Pakistani bowlers like Fazal, Imran, Wasim, Waqar, Akhtar, and even Asif. Sohail has this, he's just old, he needs to be used smartly and for T20s.

The people who can plead his case on ptv sports don't do so because of Rashid Latif's close affiliation to both him and Younis Khan. Rashid just hints at the injustice but doesn't say anything further and the message gets lost with Nauman Niaz saying idiotic things like aap kaina kya cha rahe hain and not expanding on the point further and making everything into a joke.

He hits mostly against spin.

He was hitting pacers in NZ iirc. Albeit in small grounds.

I would get him in the team, but then you need to get rid of Kamran Akmal. Because of his fielding. For that to happen, we need an opener to do well in Pakistan Cup. Maybe Sami Aslam.
