Local.Dada How is not a religious issue? All groups advocating for cow urine are Religious groups not scientists. “The alcohol thing” was brought up by a random poster on an online forum. No significant Muslim groups or even scholars have ever said Alcohol based Sanitizer is not allowed. On the other hand we have major religious groups in India saying that cow urine is a good substitute for Sanitizer. You don’t see that as dangerous?

I have no intention of attacking anyone religion but it confuses me that you think cow urine does not have religious association . Just read the article above. The group advocating for is called. “Hindu Bharat Mahasaba “ while the article from Indiatoday was about a Temple. Are those not religious groups ? Why are you concerned about a poster here but completely sugar coating what established religious groups in India are saying.

I am not exaggerating when I am saying this but I have never heard of this Hindu Bharat Mahasaba before I saw a thread for them on PP.

They are a non entity and also first thing Hinduism doesn’t have centralized figure heads like other religions.

Anyway you countering me with a google search of some idiot somewhere which doesn’t get us anywhere. At this point you seem to get defensive and trying to get back at me rather than having a constructive debate on the topic that’s being discussed.

If a educated Hindu living in India leave alone UK or US had opened a thread on a forum like is “Cow Urine a good substitute for sanitizer in accordance with Hinduism “

Especially on a forum where there are similar like minded people who are either expats or educated ones with access to the internet, I would definitely be concerned and trust me, I would not try to mince my words in fear of offending anyone like I am here because the sensitivity there would be not as bad as it can get here which is fact.

If one is unsure then please ask Scholars of Islam rather than asking the masses about their opinion. Since it allowed to use, there is not question of asking people about their opinion.
Better to scrap this poll.

I use soap and water, plenty of it available where I live. Hand sanitizer is for people who want to feel clean.

Not being defensive but I disagree that one poster on a forum is a bigger matter of concern then large religious groups that same may look for guidance.

Anyways if you are genuinely concerned , I think you shouldn’t be because most Muslims know that alcohol based sanitizers are allowed. In fact according to some major scholars even alcohol based Mouthwash is allowed. I will repeat what I said earlier, I think thread is unneeded because this is a very basic issue that most already know about.

I used alcohol for different purpose even before Corona virus, not notably for controlling bed bugs in Canada.

This is from someone praying five times a day, missing one waqt last time in January. To me, alcohol is just another hydro carbon based chemical, that has several uses including as medicine.

Even consumption of alcohol is not forbidden, let alone use it as hand sanitizer. Alcoholic beverage is something that has one component of alcohol (ethanol), that too extracted from saturated starch/sugar based foods (in common words - rice, wheat, corn, sugarcane, fruits....) and processed for human consumption; by drinking which blood & brain (nervous system), malfunctions due to chemical reaction, which in common language we call intoxicated or drunk stage. This one is haram, but different forms of alcohol is used for many homeopathic medicine and I don’t think drinking raw alcohol will make someone drunk.

In any case, if a qualified Hakim prescribes even Alcoholic beverage as medicine in good faith, it’s permitted to be consumed. People unnecessarily makes islam as a tough & complex religion, which is not at all. Here, Tabligue Jamat kept running mosque & musallh even till 20th Juma, until common sense prevailed (more precisely that regulation of $25k fine, threat of arrest warrant got better of the religious faith). Where as in Hadith, it’s suggested that for such issues (war, epidemic) you should stay at home and pray in isolation - even there is a different version of Azan which encourages people to stay at home (“Hai ya alas Salah” is replaced by another instruction). In fact, in this case gathering in mass will be considered as sin, because you are risking not only your life, but your acquaintances as well.
