According to PCB, this was done on recommendation of Misbah but is it the right decision based upon his past experience with the Pakistan side?

Wrong decision.

Not least because he and Misbah think alike. They will run their premier bowlers to the ground by playing 3.5 bowlers a test, will not go for wickets up front with aggressive bowling (unlike how Waqar used to be when a bowler) and they will not invest in new faces much.

No absolutely not. Waqar Younis would not restrict himself to bowling coach duties and would definitely interfere in selection policies, management and other things.

Misbah might feed off him while doing his job. I feel its the right decision. Kinda surprised he is back when he had a falling out with PCB.

This is bound to end in tears for Waqar again. Unfortunately, he's a stubborn individual with no shortage of ego, which has been his downfall as both captain and coach in the past. Wish he'd just stick to the media job.

Waqar's previous coaching stints went down in flames. He has poor man management skills and despite his international record, bowlers performed poorly under him.

^^ That was our ODI bowling average against the other top 10 sides during his last stint as head coach ! Second worst only better than Afghanistan.

Waqar is good an identifying bowlers.

You guys are bashing Waqar, look at what Azhar Mehmood did. Usman SHiwnari dropped. Junaid Khan dropped. Faheem ashraf dropped.

THan after world cup is over he cries that Usman Shiwnari should had been in the squad.

Don't think the PCB had competitive options. His competition was Jalaludin, Mohd Akram, Yasir Arafat.

Enough said about Jalaludin the better, he was bashing the PCB ruthlessly for rejecting him. Which bowler has Jalaludin groomed and produced for Pakistan in his 20-30 years of coaching?

I think this is a good decision for the simple fact that Waqar was one of the greatest fast-bowlers to ever play the game. I think he understands fast-bowling better than most people. He has valuable insights about the nuances of the craft that can help our bowlers grow into complete players. I can't imagine any fast-bowler in the world who wouldn't love having him as their coach. It's as simple as that.

And I don't think he will try to overstep his role. He has learned enough lessons from his two tenures. He made it clear he was interested in the bowling coach gig and not the head-coach job. And the team also doesn't have any temperamental characters like Afridi, Akmal, Younis so I'm confident there won't be alot of dressing-room politics. I think it's abundantly clear that Misbah is in-charge, probably even more than the captain.

Great appointment, and i think that the reduced responsibility of being just the bowling coach, will allow him to focus just on some of the best up and coming talent coming through the system. Having Misbah being that

I mean during first period as bowling coach, he made Umar Gul from a 130kph bowler to a 150Kph and was bowling yorkers like he was eating peanuts!

Can't wait to see how he goes with the likes of Shaheen, Husnain, Naseem Shah and many of the other talented fast bowlers coming up.

Who cares of fans' satisfaction? As long PCB, formers, journalists are happy with no liabities it matter most. Performance doesn't matter.

Waqar was a great bowler. His inswinging yorkers were unplayable. It will be great if can teach youngster how to bowl those yorkers and also how get reverse swing.Shaheen Afridi can bowl get yorkers.Hasnain needs to learn how to swing the ball.

Waqar is one of the best pacers cricket has seen. I think he can pass on valuable knowledge to young pacers. If nothing else, he can at least inspire the youngsters.

I think it is good that he is bowling coach.

Wasim, Waqar, Shoaib and to an extent Sarfaraz Nawaz, Mohd Asif will always have a monopoly on this position. The others ie the likes of Jalaludin don't count

Einstein? Insanity?... Anyone?

This shouldn't even be a question. We've got the past to show us!

I remember Azhar listening to him during England ODI series and he was making some good points about Shaheen's action and foot landing. We saw just 5 minute talk from Wasim Akram helped Shaheen. So expect Waqar also to do well.Waqar was terrible strategist but under him fast bowling was never an issue which happened during Azhar's tenure. So a good decision although time will tell

I’m willing to give him a chance. If he is working solely with bowlers and kept away from tactics and selections, he should do a good job. Just need a decent batting coach. Wouldn’t mind Moyo if we couldn’t get a decent Australian batting coach.

Nope

He couldn't help much as the head coach
What is he going to do as a bowling coach
Where were the tips and training as a head coach he should have also been offering

Once again waqar lines his pockets up

Poor decision but also appointing misbah as the head coach was poor

Goodbye to Pakistan cricket
It'll be slumped with Bangladesh and Zimbabwe now

Let's not forget that there are examples of bowler improving under Waqar, be it Gul or Wahab or Irfan or even Rahat.

Most of the comments by ex players seem to be in favour of Waqar as his role will be a limited one and one that he knows a lot about.

Waqar as a bowling coach in 2005/6 season was good.. saw emergence of a gulldozer yorker specialist, Rana became lethal.... would be interesting to give him a chance again.... as a head coach, he was def not upto it but as with misbah , he really had little talent to work with...

He was never a good head coach, but i think he will be more suited to a bowling coach role, he got the best out of trundlers like imran khan, rahat etc so can't be all bad. No one is offering realistic alternatives anyway, its not like we are ECB or even BCCI where everyone wants to actually work with us, this is unfortunately the reality Waqar was the best of a bad bunch of applicants, you can't force wasim khan to and kidnap someone like Alan Donald and make him work for us.

Good to see him speak with some of our younger bowlers (Naseem Shah in this case)
