The selection of the next Head Coach for the Pakistan cricket team after the 2025 Champions Trophy will be a crucial decision that could shape the team’s future. Pakistan has always been a team full of natural talent, but consistency and strategic planning have often been areas of concern. A coach with strong tactical acumen, man-management skills, and the ability to instill discipline will be essential. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) should focus on finding someone who not only understands the team’s strengths but also works on its weaknesses, especially in areas like fitness, fielding, and temperament under pressure. A former Pakistani cricketer with deep knowledge of the local system and an understanding of the modern game could be an ideal candidate.

Several former Pakistani players could be strong contenders for the role. Mohammad Yousuf, with his technical brilliance and experience as a batting coach, could bring much-needed stability to Pakistan’s fragile middle order. Another option could be Younis Khan, known for his strong work ethic and leadership skills, which were instrumental in Pakistan’s 2009 T20 World Cup victory. His ability to groom young players and instill mental toughness could be valuable. If the PCB is looking for someone with a more aggressive and attacking mindset, Shahid Afridi could be considered, as he brings energy, fearlessness, and a deep understanding of Pakistan’s cricketing culture. Additionally, Misbah-ul-Haq, despite mixed results during his previous coaching stint, could still be an option due to his disciplined approach and focus on long-term planning.

Ultimately, the decision should be based on the long-term vision for Pakistan cricket rather than short-term results. The next coach must work on grooming young players, strengthening the team’s core, and building a strong domestic-to-international transition system. With the T20 World Cup in 2026 and the 2027 ODI World Cup approaching, Pakistan needs a leader who can prepare the squad for these major tournaments. Whether it’s a former Pakistani legend like Younis Khan or an internationally experienced coach with fresh ideas, the priority should be a coach who can bring consistency, mental toughness, and a winning culture to the team.

I would prefer a local coach like Younis Khan or Mohammad Yousuf as they understand Pakistan’s cricketing culture, player mindset, and domestic structure. However, pairing them with an experienced foreign consultant for tactical expertise could create the perfect balance.

They can appoint him for like 5 minutes and he will lose interest

1) Abdullah
2) Imam
3) Babar
4) Rizwan
5) Agha
6) irfan khan/tayyab
7) Khushdil
8) Wasim jnr
9) Naseem Shah
10) Mohammad Ali/Faheem Ashraf
11) Abrar/Sufiyan

^^ This is a joke unit? How is it any different from ct? You dropped saud/KG and dropped shaheen but just replaced them with duckbullah?

If this is the true squad then they Pakistan deserve to lose again
This is only rashid latif's twitter.

Also shadab Khan is being made the t20 captain now, yousaf is coming back as the batting coach, umair bin yousaf and Abdullah samad are getting t20 call ups along with Muhammad haris returning to the squad.

But the t20 squad still features the same rubbish that plagues pk cricket.

What is wrong with this team? Anyway this is what rashid latif said on X/twitter.

Bro I use to be so loyal to team Pakistan. It was always pk > Aus during sarfi's era.

It's crazy how just 3 people have made me hate my own home country.

What do misbah, rizzu and babar even want? Aren't they Pakistani? Infact aren't they Pakistani with Pakistani passports living in pakistan and being popular celebrities that represent and fight for their nation?

Shouldn't they idk, have a god damn obligation to make their country proud? These 3 hate pakistan more then any Pakistani hater I've ever met

They want out of their poverty, and never to return to it. Rake in as much as they can whilst they are relevant. That’s all it is. It’s all about money. It’s never about what’s best for Pakistan cricket team. Greed has destroyed this cricket nation.

This thread is not to discuss rizwan or any squad members so plz better stick to the topic... Thanks

Then they should have been youtubers or singers or actors or wwe wrestlers if they wanted a fake stress free career.

But when you choose a career involving sports or Military you owe it to the people of the country to come first and money comes second.

Here we have actual players wearing the country's name on their uniforms and this feels more like a cake club and a competition to see who can play the most rubbish brand of cricket possible.

Bhai it is. It's about who the new head coach is, but what does it matter? Make Bradman phupa your head coach, it's not like it'll make a difference is rizwan and babar are still around

Why not appoint the guys who have been speaking a lot on tv. Let's go with Shoaib Akhtar

no god we dont need akhtar as coach.

I could early see him running on the pitch with a stump in his hand to beat a player.

Pakistan need foreign coach and these jokers should not be allowed anywhere the team.

Pakistan need to plan separate teams for both tournaments , 20 20 is in subcontinent . Pakistan need to get in couple of solid spinners . Couple of solid fast bowlers . Also , have couple of batting all rounders. 3- 6 batters need to be proactive under pressure.

Local coaches always bring unhealthy politics in the team & I dont think any foreign coach will be interested for this job anymore specially after what happened Gary Kristen & Gillespe.

Pakistan doesn’t need any coach because it won’t make any difference, so why waste money? Coaches don’t have any real power and nor does the PCB has any money to afford one. Let Babar be the coach-player with Shaheen and Shadab as his deputies.

PCB just posted the ad for the new head coach, and it means that Aaqib is going now..

Who should be the next head coach???

LOCAL or FOREIGNER???

Maybe ask Kirsten Paaji if he can just come back and carry on.

“Gussa thukk de praa”

Yes

The guy is data driven as well which is a major plus

But he'll never come especially after the way Jason and Kirsten were treated
I don’t necessarily agree that he won’t come. He was actively making videos on his YouTube channel pointing out Pakistan cricket team mistakes of late. So he hasn’t completely shut himself off at the potential of maybe implementing his thoughts to help improve.

We don’t really know the complete story of Kirsten and Gillespie. This is more on the PCB to get right. If they want to hire a coach like Hesson, then they need to give him all the tools that he demands to implement his vision, and not try to cut costs like they did with Kirsten and not give him the coaching staff he needed.

I agree, give him a 3 year contract and full control

No pcb chairman can reduce his length or terminate it clause

Knowing the circus at the pcb, then next chairman will try to rid because it wasn't his decision and his ego won't allow it

Why would anyone want to coach Pak now other than people who can't find a job or incompetent former Pak players

why did you add Misbah? Haven’t we learnt from our past. Why we giving chances to failure coach and a player. Once a failure always a failure. Remove his name

Dump Aqib ASAP bring in Mike Hesson for LOi and Test they can bring whoever they like as long as it's not Aqib.

That is what PCB will never do , give proper control. Right now Pakistan needs long term planning , you have to sacrifice short term results. You simply have to , otherwise this is not magic wand.

Hesson is perfect. Aqib is still better than Misbah and Waqar.

Btw, Naqvi has to be among the worst chairmans. His only qualification is that he is related with the right guy. Changing captains and coaches like this will not bring any positive results.

Only foreign coach worth getting is Andy flower. Has the experience at international level, revolutionised English cricket, worked as team director too, and more importantly has success at Pakistani domestic level at PSL. It’s sad we couldn’t get him. I think he’d work wonders.

The other foreign coaches I don’t think are worth it, would struggle because of language barriers and not involved in Pakistan domestic.

But coaches really need to be given absolute power these days. They need to pick the team, sort the batting order, even influence on the squad. They are the guys being paid to manage the squad. Players should focus on their performance instead not getting wrapped into this.

There is no easy answer.

There needs to be a long term plan. A plan where a coach & selectors are on the same page. They also need no drama or constantly hassle from the PCB.

Whoever the coach is, needs to be given a professional environment & a hungry group of core players. Also rather than have useless training camps, have a strong network of scouts that are able to bring through talented players for domestic cricket to international cricket.

Also Pakistan doesn't need split coaches. They don't play nearly enough test matches to have a red ball coach.

Separate politics from the sport, build a strong foundation & watch the game & team grow.

I don't think any respectable foreign coach would want to work with this current administration of the PCB. Who can succeed under this chaotic and unstable regime? Selectors, coaches and captains get changed every 6 months under Mohsin Naqvi.

Unless someone is desperate to earn easy money I really don't see a serious candidate applying. IN the end we will end up with a local coach who is a favourite of the upper class group (shadow corp).

I think Aqib was fine

Keep him going if you can’t find anyone of Hesson’s level

Somehow convince Hesson (or an equivalent) coach and then hand him the reins for the next 5 years.

It will be tough after the Kirsten/Gillespie debacle but it's the only way forward.

Instead of focusing on foreigners, Pakistan should have the services of their own people
The legends of the game kamran Akmal,Gul,Ajmal,Afridi,Hafeez

Andy flower is busy with rcb .I don't think he will have interest in working around the time while earns same/more for a 2 months stint.rest of the points I agree. Pcb needs a dictator coach now and pcb should not bother about few losses while trying for long term benefit. But am not sure about back stabbings from usual suspects

Whoever is coming should be given a full tenure of at least 3 years.. PCB should not do shenanigans with that guy.

Pakistan need to hire someone like BMac who can transform the way they approach batting.

Might as well try Hayden and Shaun Tait combo again... They might agree to work.
