An Army Major, who had tied a Kashmiri man to a jeep in Kashmir, has been awarded by Army Chief Gen Bipin Rawat for his 'sustained efforts' in counter-militancy operations.
The Army Chief's 'Commendation Card' for Major Leetul Gogoi comes even as a Court of Inquiry into the tying of the Kashmiri man to the jeep's bonnet as a shield against stone pelters was going on.
"Major Gogoi has been awarded Chief of Army Staff's Commendation Card for sustained efforts in counter-insurgency operations," Army spokesperson Aman Anand said.
Gogoi was awarded during Gen Rawat's recent visit to Jammu and Kashmir.
A video, showing the man tied to the army vehicle during polling in the Srinagar Lok Sabha by-election on April 9, had triggered a public outrage, prompting the Army to institute a probe.
The CoI was tasked to look into the circumstance that prompted Major Gogoi to tie the Kashmiri youth to the jeep's bonnet as a human shield.

Unfortunate, and will give a terrible precedence but not like anything was going to change anyway.

The Indian State terrorism sickens me. The oppressors of Kashmiris are being encouraged and rewarded to continue their atrocities .

Worst country to live in as a Muslim.

Just read some comments from online warriors on Indian channels facebook page. It's not really a surprise why India is losing grip on Kahsmir. Most Indians consider all the Kashmiris terrorists including stone throwing teenagers and kids and this is not going to end well for India as far as Kashmir is concerned.

In the international law and in a saner world this major would've been suspended and then put under the scanner for doing something as gruesome as this but in India same guy is awarded for doing a war crime which is not acceptable anywhere in the world and accrording to the international law is not accepatable in any circumstances.Just goes on to show "the love" of India for this "integral part".They just don't give a damn about the people and their sentiments here.

The irony here, though,is at the same time India is trying to get the international verdict on Kulbushan Jadhav but in Kashmir those laws take a back seat and don't apply here. How hypocritical?

Don't tag me with this nonsense again. I have never been the one justifying brutality, be it from Indian army or Kashmiri civilians.

Not that I want to justify any brutality either from Kashmiri or Army, but did this help stop the stone throwers without shedding a life at that incident? If yes, Lives are saved.

did you stay here? its sickens me when outsiders say India is worst country for a Muslim when we, majority of Muslims lives here peacefully.
Definitely India is far safer country for a Muslim than some so called Islamic nation.

Majority of people don't really care about issues outside their own states. You won't find many kashmiri Hindus, Sikhs justifying these kind of incidents except some right wing groups. If we start judging indians based on online comments then we will get the impression that India is the least tolerant country in the world.

Agree. The Indian Army is on par with the lawless African Forces in measure of genocidal killings.

The Indian army is competing with the Israeli army for the leaders of human rights abusers
