1. Australia
2. India
3. South Africa
4. England
5. New Zealand
6. Sri Lanka
7. Pakistan
8. West Indies

On the whole it hasn't been a good run since 2000s, we've mainly been just a lower-mid team. Hope that finally changes now.

NZ were a terrible team till 2010, I think only slightly better than WI. They won just one test away from home in that decade against top 8 opponents.

Pakistan is easily a better team than NZ and SL in last 18 years of international cricket IMO.

Nice to see posters so far are giving India its due and not placing Pak above India for patriotic reasons

My top 8:

1. Australia
2. South Africa
3. India
4. England
5. Pakistan
6. Sri Lanka
7. New Zealand
8. West Indies

You could make a case for NZ and Sri Lanka ahead but I don't think there's much in it. Sri Lanka on the whole has been the more competitive ODI side since 2000, and generally been around the same in tests, but they've also recorded a big away win against England in England 2-0.

New Zealand you're right haven't really been great till 2010 but have recorded World cup semi final entries consistently. They've also been a consistent strong ODI side for a time, and I rate consistency. There's not really been a period from what I remember that Pakistan were considered a consistently strong team in ODIs and tests. Only time is the brief time we were no.1 (before dropping quickly) and that again was more to do with home domination.

Partly I rate NZ and Sri Lanka ahead to is because I expect more out of Pakistan. Pakistan have 10 times the bigger population than Sri Lanka and 50 times New Zealand. And it's a cricket mad country unlike New Zealand, and an older nation than Sri Lanka. We should have achieved more.

We're just constantly seen as underdogs every time against strong opposition, and haven't been considered favourites for a long time (or since I remember watching, but again I started watching more regularly late 2000s/ after 2010). Even Sri Lanka I remember were considered a strong team say 2011 WC, or New Zealand in 2015 WC. We've just never been consistent. Even now yes a CT win is good, but we're still languishing lower/mid in the test and ODI tables as usual.

From 2000 till 2014 Sri Lanka were a very potent side people are underrating them here because they are thinking of Sri Lanka of today however in the 18 year period they deserve to be above England and Pakistan..

India above South Africa because of India winning the World Cup, that’s the ultimate prize and winning it gives you those extra points... Thiugh SA have had the better test team so it’s close but WC is worth more than tests any day.

That’s my unbiased ranking.

They were terrible in ODI in 00s and only improved in 2010s.

Can you post the records for Sri Lanka in all formats along with their positions in major ICC tournaments and notable series wins please? Why do you think people are ranking them below Pakistan and England when they were finalists of WC twice, won CT, T20 WC Alif with a good year win/loss record?

You already listed ICC so not going to repeat it.

So we have better win ratio than eng in two format since 2000 and add to that our performances in icc events during that time is better than them still people have prefer eng over pakistan lol what a joke

England vs Pakistan is very close to be honest.. England have been the better test side and they have won test series in Asia which is litmus test for any western teams.. Not sure if I’m this time whether Pakistan has won series in SA, Aus or England?

Both Pakistan and England have won a T20 WC so that nullifies T20 record because apart from WC T20
Bilaterals are not that important as of now. However Pakistan have a way better W/L ratio than England so they are a better team. Historically Pakistan are one of the top T20 sides Justin second to a full strength WI.

Pakistan have won CT which pips then above England in ODI’s along with having a better W/L ratio..

One can argue that Pakistan is slightly ahead of England or one can argue England just pips Pakistan due to test record.. Either way both arguments have merit in them..

But one this is for sure Sri Lanka have been a better team than both of them since 2018 it’s only in last 3-4 years they have declined...
