KARACHI: A media regulatory body in Britain has revoked all licences held by the ARY Network over the TV network’s failure to provide the licensed services.
The Office of Communications, commonly known as Ofcom, is the government-approved regulatory and competition authority for the broadcasting, telecommunications and postal industries of the United Kingdom.
“Ofcom revoked all of the licences held by ARY Network Limited (in liquidation) (‘ARY Network’). The reason for Ofcom’s decision is that ARY Network had ceased to provide the licensed services and that Ofcom was satisfied it was appropriate to revoke the licences,” the statement said.
Ofcom said it has revoked licences of all six channels owned by the ARY Network.
“ARY Network held six Television Licensable Content Service (‘TLCS’) licences granted under Part 1 of the Broadcasting Act 1990,” said the Ofcom statement.
“These licences were used to broadcast the following channels: ARY Digital, ARY QTV, ARY News, ARY World News, QTV–Islamic Education Channel and ARY Entertainment.” – Samaa
