"As a captain, I can see that England are a bit low on confidence as a team" : Sarfaraz Ahmed

Sarfaraz Ahmed at a press conference before the first Test at Lord's:

"We already announced the 12-man squad - the same XI that faced Ireland with Hasan Ali in the squad. We'll announce the playing XI tomorrow before the toss"

"We will try our level best to win the series here"

"Previously I was a part of the team when we came here but this team is different. Previous team had lots of seniors but now we have some good young players and we'll try our best to win"

"If you see the England squad, they have a lot of experienced players with a good bowling attack and good batting. They're in their home conditions and they're a good side and they are tough competitors. Hopefully we will beat them insha'Allah"

"If you see England's past few series, they haven't been good for them as they lost the Ashes and in New Zealand"

"We've played four games here, all with different weather. Kent, too cold; Northampton, too hot; Ireland first 2-3 days very cold then very hot. The weather is good here"

"As a captain, I can see that England are a bit low on confidence as a team so we will try our best to take advantage of that"

"Yasir Shah isn't here so we're playing with 5 bowlers, if we had him then we would consider playing 6 batsmen. We picked Shadab and Faheem as the 4th and 5th bowler. Yasir is an experienced bowler who has done well over the past few years and he did well at Lord's and at the Oval last time, so it's a big loss but we'll try our level best to perform well"

"I am very pleased with the way Imam played against Ireland, he played a crucial knock. Insha'Allah he'll continue his performance"

"Hasan Ali will bowl in practice today, he has 2 stitches on his hand and we'll see how he bowls, if he's comfortable etc. and then announce the team based on that"

"For the slips, Haris Sohail was our first slip in the last match, Asad Shafiq at second and after that we have Azhar Ali and Babar Azam. If we need one more fielder there, then we have Shadab Khan"

"The ball hit Babar in the nets yesterday but I think he will be fine"

"Last tour I hit a century against England in an ODI but everyone wishes to have their name on the honours board at Lord's, I will try to perform at my best and help my team win"

"Obviously when you're captain then everyone focuses on your performances. Captaincy is going well but I will try to do well with batting and keeping as well so that my team can benefit from it"

"The responsibility is on the senior players like Azhar Ali, Asad Shafiq, myself and Mohammad Amir. The others mostly haven't played much specially in England. We hope we can lead from the front and the junior players can carry on the momentum"

"Victory against Ireland has helped our confidence as that was the first match of the tour which is always important. The way we won with the youngsters performing also gave us a lot of confidence"

"England have a very experienced team but I have told our players that they don't need to be scared of anyone, they just need to replicate their performances at the domestic level which have brought them here"

"Several of the young players will be playing at Lord's for the first time which will be a proud moment for them. I have told them to play without fear and do their best, worst comes to worst, we'll lose. We're in a process of transition, but if they do well, the confidence they gain will do wonders for them"

"When you tell your team to be fearless, that means that you forget about losing and just look to perform to your potential. If you think about losing then you won't succeed"

"Last time at Lord's, we won the toss and batted. There is a bit of grass but under that, it looks a bit dry so the toss will be important as both teams will want to bat first"

Sarf going strong on the 'England low on confidence' bit :)

Hope that doesnt backfire.

But his hope for a captain's hundred at Lord's is rather far-fetched!

A wicket keeper’s hundred can mean that either things have gone very well for the batting or very poorly

No Fakhar at the top of the innings is a massive mistake.

As a captain I would probably lay off the doughnuts rather than commenting on the opposition's confidence, but this is Sarfraz, hope it works out how he wants it to.

The journalist specifically mentioned England's confidence possibly being low after losing the Ashes and in NZ.

I don't think he could have discussed doughnuts in answer to that query.

He could have brought the subject in question into his answer though "When my confidence is low, I have a doughnut or two...or a dozen"

Secret to winning an ODI tournament :sarf2

Get those doughnuts in England if you want a WC

This is gonna backfire if Pakistan are bowled out cheaply.

Aren't doughnuts an American sort of breakfast/early morning snack? I mean if one is in the UK wouldn't he go for a more of an English breakfast or something? I don't know never been to the UK personally but are doughnuts big in England as well??
