As a Karachiite which party do you affiliate with?

It's no surprise that PTI and PML-N are in a tug of war over Punjab.

However as a Karachiite who do you support? Neither PTI or PML-N give a hoot about the most populous city in the country, too busy installing new motorways and whatnot in Lahore and Islamabad. So where does it leave us? What's in it for us?

Ofc people will say "but you should think of the greater good of the country, not just your city", and while that sounds very moral and selfless, I'm not under obligation to do that, nor does that make me selfish if I choose not to. Everyone thinks of themselves first during election be it the nominees or a random dude on the street thinking how will he and the place he lives benefit from who wins.

During election period in the US, every resident is concerned about how their lives in the state they live will be effected. You see the nominees visiting every state and assuring them of what they will do for their state and cities as everyone thinks about themselves first.

At the moment it looks like majority of residents will be choosing between PPP and MQM. If you had to pick one who would you choose?

PTI for what they stand for...I know they may not pay much attention to Karachi, but moralistically it's hard to pick anyone else.

MQM has done a lot of good work for Karachi but at the end of the day they are a party of goons, thugs, and criminals. Really hard to support them, until they give up the scare tactics and get rid of Altaf.

PPP...who cares.

Also It's a bit unfair to tag them along with PMLN in terms of only being interested in large projects in Punjab.

A lot of the younger generation is breaking ranks with the older generation thanks to social media and whatnot. I support Pti, historically supported mqm but without the help from federal government they are pretty useless and never want to see the killings and crime they bring. Hope pti wins the general election and kicks out ppp from sindh aswell.

As a Karachite and someone who actually has voted and campaigned for in the previous election (PTI) I am a bit disappointed with PTI's performance in Karachi, they have nothing to show for except for Arif Alvi who is at most is a non existent political figure in the city.

For starters, PTI seriously needs to invest in grass root level political infrastructure if they are to truly emerge as a national political force. Whatever you may say about MQM and their activities, what they absolutely were champions at was the infrastructure of sectors and towns all across the cities [MENTION=138463]Slog[/MENTION] can probably testify to this and this right here was a critical reason as to why no one (not even PPP & PML-N with all their resources), could dislodge them from this stronghold. It literally took a massive internal conflict among themselves to break their majority.

PTI, realistically speaking, need to model this type of a approach (Minus all that illegal stuff by MQM) if they are to hope to control this raging beast of a city known as Karachi. You can't expect to have a lid over 27 million strong and growing population by giving statements and having morality speeches; you'd actually must have a strong street presence and offices in every part of town so that the constituents can come and address their grievances.

No they had literally negligible campaigning for 2013 election even. And Zahra Shaeed was alive then

Karachiites are in a sticky situation these days. Like rest of Pakistan, they are now very short of choices. Those complaining PTI has done nothing in Karachi, well they have not been able to do much in Punjab either.

Don't lose faith, now we have really hit a wall where we have to decide who really is less of a disaster for the country and except PTI there is no option. I really wish people throughout the country (especially in Punjab) start to see this truth now!

From what I remember there was a lot of violent blowback from MQM when PTI tried to do one in Karachi years ago and a lot of karachiites were furious at imran for putting their safety in jeopardy

Most of people I know even those who were hardcore MQM supporters voted for PTI in the last elections. But have to say that wave of change towards PTI has died down to a large extent. PTI may still do well in areas like Defence and Clifton but they have missed their chance of making inroads in the traditional MQM strongholds. Personally, I feel PTI is still the best option for Karachites as far as the national assembly is concerned, but it neither has the capacity nor the intent to do well in local government. A lot of people consider PSP a better option at the local govt level due to the goodwill Mustafa Kamal generated for his work.

This is our nation's biggest problem. Short term memory. We vote one kutti ka putter out, all he has to Do is wait 5-10 years to come back again.

PPP and PML-N are like two very resilient strains of a virus that are eating our country from inside out. And our nation is stupid enough to let them.

I have read about that party, am considering switching my allegiance given that traditionally my family have always voted for Peer Ismail Taker; I've never heard a little about Kurtsheed Anjum and greatly appreciate his hard work when it comes to ethnic minorities and technical expertise in that area beyond his critically acclaimed 3 I's political science thesis.

Well said bro, its true! Kurtsheed Anjum is one of the few politicians in Pakistan who has a truly unblemished career. He's a true patriot and a national hero. His efforts to eradicate the scourge of racism are very commendable to say the least. I'm glad to see that his party is finally starting to gain some momentum.
