Asad Umar (born 1961) is a Pakistani politician and former business administrator . He served as CEO and President of Engro Corporation for 8 years during a 27-year career with the company. He resigned from his post at Engro and Joined Imran Khan led political party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on April 2012. He received Sitara-i-Imtiaz for his business achievements in 2010.

Umar’s 27-year career at Engro began in 1985, when the company was still a subsidiary of ExxonMobil, the global oil giant. He joined the company as a business analyst, and was working for it abroad in Canada when the famous management buyout of Engro took place in 1991. Umar came back to Pakistan and in 1997 was appointed the first CEO of Engro Polymer & Chemicals, the group’s petrochemical arm. Later on, he was elected as the President and CEO of Engro Corporation in January 2004 and transformed the business from a mere chemical company to a giant conglomerate. It was his idea to diversify into dairy and food business and today 'Engro Foods' stand as the highest profit producing subsidiary of Engro Corporation. It was in his tenure when Engro became the first Pakistani company to buy a business entity abroad when the company earlier in 2012 bought Canadian based food company 'Al Safa Halal'.

Asad Umar resigned as CEO of Engro Corporation on 19 April 2012 and joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. At PTI, he will be part of committee to work on a draft paper to suggest economic reforms to take Pakistan out of current financial crisis. Asad Umar was appointed Central Senior Vice President of PTI on 21 April 2012.He is the candidate of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) from Constituency NA-48 Islamabad in the upcoming July by-elections after the seat was vacated by PTI central president Javed Hashmi. Hashmi had won by scoring over 70,000 votes compared to 50,000 gained by the runner up

What are your views on him??

I personally like him, one of my favorites in Pak politics after Sir Imran Khan

He is standing for the NA- 48 seats in the by- elections today

One of the very best in Pakistan. He is not a typical politician, The purpose of having him in the PTI is to help the party in policy making in areas such as economics, finance and business.

He's a winner from my district.. hoping to see some change.. or else its RIP for PTI :/

While he's busy making policy for PTI in the areas such as economics etc as you mentioned, It is believed that his brother supports PML N and has been supporting parties policies. I haven't seen him though ever doing as stated... :kami

Would love to see him in the Parliament we need some good brains like Asad in parliament not those traditional politicians...So far it looks like he is winning from NA-48 Islamabad

Yup his brother Zubair Umar was Former CFO IBM Middle East & Africa and is now part of PML-N.

He wins.
Seems very educated and polished this guy.
Perfect for the parliament unlike some others sitting there.

An unbelievably awesome person and an inspiration for all Pakistanis

Talks a lot of sense unlike traditional politicians. I wish he had stood from NA 250 which is his home constituency

also son of an ex general.. so not an ordinary folk..

but one of the better people on the political scenes so high hopes from him... been welcomed by every1 it seems.

Won against PML N candidate who also happens to be lawyer of Mumtaz Qadri (murderer of Salman Taseer). Asad Umer is very balanced and if utilized properly can serve Pakistan a lot

I wouldn't mind him as PCB chief but his best use would be to work on issues that matter more to the country.

Asad Umar is definitely the classiest guy in PTI. I remember clearly when I first heard this guy and I thought that these are the kind of people we need in the party. Fresh faces with fresh ideas backed with very good knowledge. I always try to watch his interviews or talk shows. He knows how to shut off opposition with facts rather than the usual Pakistani way which is to shout over the other person.

if PTI is to come to power Asad Umar's role is extremely important for Pakistan. He would possibly be at the forefront of policy making.

This is what he said 5 years ago!

The way NCOC curbed covid and acted on the leadership of Asad Umar is commendable. He did a great job. He was able to coordinate with provinces, and political rivals especially PPP and Sindh government.

The best thing was the sms way of letting people know about the vaccine and easy registration.

Asad Umar did a terrific job in this.
