Australia head into the Boxing Day Test at the MCG with the Ashes already secured, having swept the first three matches to take an unassailable 3–0 lead. England, bruised and searching for answers, now faces the challenge of salvaging pride in a series that has slipped away far too quickly.

Australia’s dominance has been emphatic: an eight-wicket win in Perth where they chased down 205 with ease, another eight-wicket victory in Brisbane after piling up 511 in the first innings, and a hard-fought triumph in Adelaide by 82 runs to seal the urn.

England’s batting collapses and inability to sustain pressure have been telling, while Australia’s balance—led by their top-order consistency and incisive bowling—has left Ben Stokes’ men without a foothold. As the 4th Test begins in Melbourne, the hosts will look to extend their streak, while England desperately seeks a performance that restores belief and avoids the humiliation of a whitewash.

I think England should approach this 4th Test without the Bazball nonsense. Try to play proper/traditional Test cricket.

Wow england are playing like pak in aus .atleast we did give some fight in last test series against them .

England will investigate reports of Ashes drinking

England will investigate reports of players drinking excessively during a break from the Ashes series in the beach town of Noosa.

The England squad spent four nights on the Queensland coast between the second and third Tests.

Several outlets, including the BBC, reported that some players were drinking for a significant portion of their time in Noosa, as well as on two previous days in Brisbane, the venue for the second Test.

Although they returned an improved performance in the third Test in Adelaide, England were beaten to ensure they cannot win back the Ashes from Australia.

The home side have taken an unassailable 3-0 lead in only 11 days of cricket.

England director of cricket Rob Key told BBC Sport: "Headlines can be misleading at times, saying it's a stag do and stuff like that.

"Stories of players drinking six days solid - that's unacceptable. We'll be looking into seeing what the facts are as opposed to the things that have been embellished or elaborated on."

The break in Noosa was arranged in advance of the Ashes tour and went ahead despite England falling 2-0 behind after two Tests.

While the entire squad was present in Noosa, former Kent and England batter Key was in another part of Queensland.

Players were told to expect media attention and they were captured by TV cameras and photographers.

That included shots of some members of the squad drinking at an outside table of a bar on the main high street in the town.

"When you see a picture of five or six guys sitting down for lunch, a couple of them having drinks, you need to see what's going on with that," said Key.

"If it's true that it became a stag do and people are out drinking all the time excessively, that's not acceptable. I don't agree with a drinking culture. I don't like a drinking culture."

Key also said he previously looked into reports that white-ball captain Harry Brook and batter Jacob Bethell were drinking the night before a match on the limited-overs tour of New Zealand that preceded the Ashes.

A clip of Brook and Bethell was shared on social media, reportedly taken in Wellington the night before the third one-day international on 1 November.

"I didn't feel like that was worthy of formal warnings, but it was probably worthy of informal ones," said Key.

"There wasn't any formal action. We've had four years where we've had none of these issues really, with any of the players, and there's a whole process that we put in place for stuff like that - for what you do if they're out of line.

"That was a bit of a wake-up call for what they're going into. I don't mind players having a glass of wine over dinner. Anything more than that, I think is ridiculous."

Despite the questions over the behaviour of some players in Noosa, Key defended their right to take the break from the Ashes.

Brook, Bethell, Ben Duckett, Jofra Archer and others could spend almost six months away from home following the tours of New Zealand, Australia, and the T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka in the new year.

"Harry Brook is going to only be at home for six days this entire winter," said Key.

"We have to create a time where these players can get away from cricket because they're not going to do it by being at home.

"We live in an age as well where it's impossible to avoid cricket. I sit there on my phone and every Instagram thing comes up. I know that players say they shouldn't look at it, but they do.

"You can't escape cricket, especially on an Ashes series and the scrutiny. Getting away and being able to just forget about that and live like a normal person is really important."

Ho dear.
Perfect Preparations for a Ashes Test Match.

It has been a disaster of a tour for England.

I think biggest blunder England made was to make Brendon McCullum the coach of the Test team. What were they thinking?

McCullum himself was not a good Test player. His carefree approach is not suitable for Test. He started this carefree attitude.

England should get a new Test team with a new coach (a coach who understands and respects Test cricket).

England became #1 in Test when they had Andy Flower as the coach.

A serious coach like Andy Flower is needed for Test format.

Crawley says 3-2 is still a good result. if Australia drops the guard they can sneak back in given that htey will be missing 2 of their main threats

He has to say it.

It may have been good results if series was live going into final test.

But winning two after losing first three so dramatically, and winning against Aussie team with players out injured, isn't a big achievement.

Oh yes, can't forget the latest one. Where his team mates choked in the final session
That is where stupid stupid stupid came . It was no choking. Pant is not a choker. He is just a stupid. When Australia gave everything up and tossed the ball to Head match was as good as over. Then came the brain fade. Plus Jaiswal run out. Jaiswal dropped like 4 or 5 catches. India has lost a lot of tests in 2025 due to brain freeze. Bumrah couldn't do everything on his own. Needed support. Siraj was a bit off color in that series. Also Indian bowling changes were extremely weird as they did not give ball to Sundar for 70 overs

Coming from a team supporters who are yet to draw a test in australia since 1995. I mean todi saram...... :klopp :kp
Despite two excess baggges Rohit/Kohli India had a chance to level the series. TOo many things wen against India. From toss to loss of players , tense atmosphere. Rememebr Rohit fiasco. Then Ashwin's shocking retirement. Clarity of thought was missing from team management. Yet we were in the series till the last innings of the series unlike England who got stuffed in 11 days

You know why Aussies hate English? This is why?

This picture summaraizes the tour so far lol Look of two guys totally giving up. They can still win a test may be 2. But this is the most over-promised English unit in history.

ALthough i love to troll English for their not so humble talks ahead of series i expected some fiery contests with 2 145k bowlrs and stokes who can touch 145k. I just could not see a moment where English bowlers bullying them. Hunters became hunted at the hands of Travis Head. Watch how young Shamar Joseph bowled, with such hostility. I couldn't see anything like this form England bowlers despite having high release speeds

Alot of the England players are carrying Mental baggage when it comes to Touring Australia. Its clearly evident now.

man that boxing day test and this aussies test team coming with cummins, starc, lyon and boland/hazelwood and smith at the great MCG was something else sadly it won't happen this time

You got lucky draw due to rain otherwise it would be 4-1.....

In wisden cricket English pundits during discussion while doing the post mortem they went through every series they played. While discussing about their pakistan tour they gotto say this "To be one nil up and lose 2-1 to an inferior team like pakistan team is lazy"

Ho dear.
Perfect Preparations for a Ashes Test Match.

England going full Pakistan in Australia.

Off field shenanigans being blamed for bad results, board promising to investigate, media running wild with stories...

Is Intikhab Alam available to do a report ?

They are right, Pakistan is not a good test side.

Stories dont seem too wild. They were out getting p!ssed for four days. Anybody who has had any experience with White Brits and nights outs knows it not going to be tame. These guys drink a lot, and getting wrecked is the fun part of it. Very immature to do it on tour, especially when 2-0 down!

There's a video circulating of a clearly intoxicated Ben Duckett who's got no idea what planet he's on.

Barmy Army fans are coming out with stories about encountering players worse for wear.

It seems that after the Covid-induced isolation of the previous tour, they've gone the other extreme on this tour by being too lax.

They are trying to come up with reasons that are not the real reasons. It is not like Aussies don't drink. There is certain style of play required. Didn't Ben stokes say guys like Alistair cook Andrew strauss won't find a spot in his side. Seriously? Their ability to grind them down in 2010 was one of the reason why they won. When there is working model available saying "We have a new thing here which will be more exciting than other models" is daft. Alyssa healy summarizes nicely what you need to do well here.

Tour of Australia has always had its attachments. Just this time, the Media, and the EX players ( Hasbeens) are on their case to get their own back. Even though I agree with the media regarding the preparations, they should have been better.

Results wise, I agree, there is comparisons with Pakistan, England have stank the Place out in Australia again!
