Asia Cup 2018: Virat Kohli slammed by former Indian selector for skipping India-Pakistan clash

I think Kohli is just sick and tired of how he is being bashed by everyone for the series loss in England. Probably going to have a ‘Talk Nah’ moment on Twitter once India embarrasses itself in this Asia Cup.

Sandeep Patel is correct in slamming Kohli's immature and childish decision.

I wasn't aware that some Indian fans don't see Pakistan vs India as a big game. As a Pakistan fan I still see it as the biggest game for us.

But we are not playing Test cricket, are we? These days ODIs with any teams are just pointless, unless it's against top ranked teams.

1997 Pepsi Independence Cup in India

Pakistan coming to play India after the defeat in 1996 WC QF. Three key players were missing from Pakistan squad - Wasim, Waqar and Mushtaq. Reason - County Cricket

1998 Silver Jubilee Independecne cup in Dhaka

Pakistan against playing India. Players missing - Wasim, Waqar who decided they were not fit and needed rest. Just a few months later, Wasim was back as captain of Pakistan.

But but other than Sachin and Imran, no player will dare to miss an international match. LOL

And all these years I was thinking that wasim and waqar got dropped because of losing against Pakistan in the quarter final of 96 World Cup? Did you know how Pakistani fans reacted after their QF loss?

When I said no player would have dared to miss a match apart from big players like Sachin and Imran it was for noobs like Pandya who haven't even established themselves in Intl cricket.

Wasim and Waqar taking rest after playing 10 years of cricket doesn't prove anything. They were established star players too. Obviously it went over your head. Once again I am not against Kohli taking a break but I was suggesting him to take a break from IPL instead.

Should be rested, nothing to gain in playing in this poor mans europa league cup!!

So many factual errors in a single post.

1. After the 1996 QF, Wasim was injured and missed a couple of ODI series (Waqar continued to play). But he returned back as captain on the tour to England 2 months after the WC QF. And both the Ws playing a stellar role in Pakistan winning the series. Both played in Toronto cup vs India, Champions Trophy at Sharjah, Tri series in AUstralia with Wasim as captain winning all of those tournaments. So much for them getting dropped due to QF loss!

2. Pandya rest - Did he ask for rest? I am sure any youngster would never want to rest, but do you have any proof of Pandya saying he wanted to rest?

And no nothing has gone over my head. I responded to exactly what you wrote. May be you should slowly learn how to frame your arguments properly. Unfortunately I cannot offer any help nor can I stop you from reading fiction and making up facts like you did just now.

Pakistani supporter on ths forum having a real tough time accepting the fact that neither BCCI nor Kohli giving a hoot abt Asia Cup & Pakistani encounters

In some parallel world they wer expecting India and Kohli to come all gun blazing against them to revenge CT final loss.

Agree and I hope the stance from BCCI and player's remains same. We can try more youngsters and 2nd string players in tournaments like Asia cup and matches against Pakistan. No need to play the premier team in useless tournaments and against ordinary opponents.

India must field their best team against Pakistan only during the World Cups, when they will field their best teams against all teams including minnows.

Couple of our pakistani friends are upset that i showed them how kohli and bcci care little about the Asia cup.

Its quite sad how the absence of one player makes your team a phateechar one :))

Is there a possibility that if India loses the match against Pak a SOS call is sent out to Kohli to fly to Dubai ASAP?

I think that is a very likely scenario.

Today I learned that in a team of eleven players if you drop one player then that means you "sent a second string side" and shows that you are "not giving any importance to the tournament"

Mein sadqay jaon chest thumpers ki logic pe :yk

Good chance for India to not make the finals but Kohli won't be coming in on SoS.

I predict Pakistan fluking a win against Bangladesh in Asia Cup 2018 final, leading them to their third ever Asia cup victory in their lifetime.

Will never happen. Obviously some section of the media will start criticizing kohli for testing if we lose. But pretty sure no SOS call will be made.

Imagine the reverse, CT Champions, after a rigorous training with the army, getting beaten by a team half of whom arrived in UAE only this Sunday and other half have had no camps 😀

Endless possibilities. Could revive Hafeez's career, who knows even Butt, Asif and Razzaq may get recalled for experience 😁

Bhai there are three Ind-Pak matches (potentially) in this Asia Cup. I think the final tally will be 2-1. Don't know in whose favour will be the 2.

Also it's not like the Indian side just arrived after resting on their backsides for 6 months. Most of them were just involved in a very competitive test series in England and participated in T20 and ODI series before that.

It's actually Pakistan that had a LONG break before this Asia Cup and had to hold camps to get upto speed.

Ganguly needs to see scorecard of all Indian victories over Pakistan in the last 5 years. :inti

In the 2 ODIs we won:
91 by Rohit and 68 by Dhawan at Birmingham
73 by Dhawan at Adelaide

Others not named Kohli who scored 50s in those matches -Yuvraj and Raina not there

Didn’t realise we had 3 Ind-Pak matches in a span of 10 days. Will feel like an overkill by the 3rd match irrespective of who dominates. Idiotic ACC trying to milch it as much as it can.

You missed Kohli scored 81 in the first match at SR of 120 significantly higher than both Sharma and Dhawan and also remained not out.

In the second match you listed, Kohli scored 107.

I rest my case. :inti

Never thought I'd say this because my passion for these games has always been high, waking up super early in the morning to watch Pakistan get battered in the last few WC games, heartbreaking loss in 2012 Asia Cup, and Afridi's one last final hustle in a Pak-India game in 2014. But this time idk why, the passion isn't there.. maybe because Kohli isn't playing.

I'll still wake up early to watch it, as per tradition, but it will be just another game. The tenacity, hatred, anger between the teams isn't there anymore. They are just buddies now taking selfies, giving each other bats, massages. I live for the drama, which there isn't anymore...

It seems like you guys are the ones who are hell-bent on trying to prove otherwise. One of your lot actually said that the CT group game against Pakistan had the most number of eye-balls because it was staged on a Sunday :))) That itself tells you the state of your argument!

Either way, no one cares what India gives a hoot about or not. We've got the wood over you in both tests and ODI's, so we're sitting pretty.

If only your countrymen weren't giving these games all those eye-balls, ACC wouldn't be able to milk it at all, right?

Geez! You guys really have no faith in your team, do you? Or is it just the matter of downplaying the expectations so that the loss hurts less?

I'm surprised how one loss has dented the confidence of the Indian fans so badly :)))

Do you take comments/posts on forums so seriously? Stating facts is not 'downplaying' expectations. It's just that for many of us this is not a 'revenge' match.

We just had a disappointing England tour and therefore in general, the feeling is this team is mentally a bit shot right now. Hence the general lack of confidence. But come the 19th, we will be ready.

I made no mention about this being a revenge match or not. But when you come up with things like logistical issues or no camps (lol!), 2 days prior to the game, it indicates a lot of insecurity.

Yup, hoping for a good game on the 19th!

I think IPL fans should be the last ones to talk about overkill. You can watch 200 IPL matches in an year without uttering a word but here comes Ind vs Pak matches after so many years and its an overkill? Lol. Leave it to us fans who actually care about India vs Pakistan matches whether its an overkill or not. :inti
