Asia Cup 2023: Bangladesh secure an 89-run victory over Afghanistan, keeping their hopes alive for the Super 4 stage

Umpire's call. Batter survives.

That looked plumb. Should've been given out by on-field umpire.

Bangladesh will have the advantage of playing on this flat Lahore wicket. Pakistan will need to be top of their game to beat Bangladesh in the Super 4 match.

Alright...Firework time. Time for BD to win big or Afg stealing it away. I love the last 10 overs.

Afghans need 123 runs from the final 10 overs.

4 wickets in hand.

This is BD's game to lose now.

That's how you should play against small team where our batsmen tremble to face Mujib, Rashid, Nabi. If Bangladesh play like this they will play final against India.

I thought Afghans batted too slowly during the first 30 overs. That was decisive.

Six from Rashid.

Afghans need to reduce the margin of defeat. Otherwise, they may get eliminated even if they beat Sri Lanka.

I already told you all, Afghanistan Is useless in Pakistan. On pitches where 300 is on par and its batting paradise pitches, Afghans do not have the batting to take them through.

They rely heavily in mujeeb and rashid to carry, and their useless on Pakistan pitches.

I think BD should qualify for Super Four stage now regardless of what happens in SL-AFG game.

Good NRR boost.

My prediction of between 60-80 wasn't that far off then in the end.

If Rashid and Mujeeb had some fun could've been 60.

Bangladesh's Convincing Victory Keeps Tournament Hopes Alive

Bangladesh bagged an important 89-run win over Afghanistan. This win was crucial for Bangladesh, especially after their rocky start against Sri Lanka. It's not just a morale booster, but also helps their net run rate.

Afghanistan had a tough day, relying too much on their spinners. They bowled 30 overs of spin but only got one wicket, showing how well Bangladesh played. The Afghan fast bowlers also couldn’t make a big impact. They'll have to rethink their game plan before they face Sri Lanka next.

Taskin Ahmed was the star for Bangladesh. He took four wickets for just 44 runs in 8.3 overs. One of his big wickets was Rashid Khan. Khan tried to hit a big shot but ended up giving an easy catch to Bangladesh's captain, Shakib Al Hasan.

There was also a unique moment when Mujeeb Ur Rahman got out in an unusual way. After hitting a six, he accidentally knocked off the bails with his foot, which means he was out "hit-wicket".

Afghanistan did show some fight. Gulbadin Naib played some good shots, but Bangladesh’s bowlers, led by Ahmed and Shoriful Islam, kept the pressure on.

As the game ended, Bangladesh’s smart fielding made it even harder for Afghanistan. They could only manage 245 runs in 44.3 overs. This win is a big boost for Bangladesh.

Afghanistan will now need to bounce back and prepare better for their game against Sri Lanka. Bangladesh, on the other hand, will hope to keep this winning spirit alive.

They have the advantage of playing on this Lahore wicket. I wouldn't write them off. Should be a cracker of a game.
Lahore wicket is batting friendly but no one in Bangladesh is capable of playing 140+ deliveries besides Shakib and rahim. They lack liton das and tamim iqbal to make a dent. Also naseem was the only bowler who NZ couldn't get away on a pak wicket due to his line and length.

Afghans should've tried to bat more sensibly. A 40-run loss would've been better than a 89-run loss.

They are probably eliminated now. They have to win by a very big margin (unlikely scenario).

Their batting came through today, Pakistan better hope that they win the toss and bat 1st.

Afghanistan were outclassed.

Whilst they are competitive in T20Is, their brand of cricket isn't going to win them too many matches in the 50 over format.

The 194 partnership was impressive. Pakistan will need to play well to beat them

If Bd bat first & post anything around /over 280-300 it won't be easy for Pak to get away. Bd may not have a settled batting line up due to injuries & some seniors being benched down, their bowling is low-key very potent & quite underrated. They are very much capable of defending par totals specially against shaky batting line ups like Ind & Pak. So it's not just going to be a walk in the park for Pak. Their fielding is generally better also than Pak. The only thing that may worry them is their inexperienced top order will be exposed against the fast bowling trio. If they can somehow survive that storm we are going to have a cracker in hand.

For sure, I feel that SL are also a very underrated side as well. And an India-Pak final is anything but certain

Looking at the way both sides are functioning right now with so many holes I also don't see an Ind-Pak final being certain. Unstable batting, lack of options in bowling are common issues with both sides. Sl being at their turf are capable of taking those advantages. Bd also can do this. When I look at current Bd/Sl sides I feel they are going to have really tough times against SENA teams (barring SA probably) but they can certainly defeat their big brothers since neither of these so-called heavyweights look settled at the moment. So I won't even be shocked if somehow it turns into a Bd/Sl final!

Bangladesh appears to be a formidable contender in this Asia Cup. They are expected to pose a significant challenge to Pakistan due to their impressive bowling lineup.

Can we change the title please? Bangladesh have already qualified for the Super Four as a result of their big margin of victory..
It's not confirmed yet especially considering their significant loss to Sri Lanka in the previous match. The possibility remains for all three teams to be in contention as if Afghanistan manages to defeat Sri Lanka convincingly it could result in a tie between all three teams.

Bangladesh cant finish third in the group. They will be second in the group, no matter who wins the next group B game

Shoriful removing one of the top two left handers of Pakistan early can allow him to bowl at Babar in the first 6 overs.

I recon he will get Babar out with an in-dipper

Babar excels against left-arm seam bowlers and I doubt he'll lose his wicket to Shoriful.

He tackle in dippers with his flick shot so well.

Well, from what I saw today…Shoriful looks sharp.

Babar had a horror show in the Asia cup against Farooqi, Madushanka and Arshdeep. Arshdeep also got him out first ball in the World Cup

Mohammad Amir also got Babar LBW in PSL recently

Babar is as vulnerable against left arm seam just like Rohit etc

what if afghanistan beats srilanka with good margin?

If Afghanistan do beat SL with a good margin and overtake Bangladesh on NRR - that would mean SL NRR would have fallen below Bangladesh so Bangladesh finish 2nd and SL finished 3rd

Any victory for SL will guarantee first place for them and 2nd for Bangladesh

This implies that Bangladesh are guaranteed to finish atleast second -and only one of Afghanistan or SL will reach the Super Four..

Looking at India's bowling performance without Bumrah, I feel India dodged a bullet on Saturday.
