Asia Cup had a small, small window to hold the tournament.

They first had two groups of three to qualify, and now have an entire super four section.

In my opinion, they should have had knockouts after qualifying. First plays second and second plays first from the other group.

So it would have meant
Afghanistan versus Pakistan
India versus Bangladesh

It would have allowed every team to have a gap. It would have allowed evenness of venue. It would have been the best thing they could do for the tournament, since currently, it's far too long as well.

The idea that a small tournament like this could potentially have two Pakistan-India games as a minimum and a possible three is baffling. I know it's box office for ACC but it's ridiculous.

Thoughts?

In my opinion, the Asia Cup can be a lot better than it is right now, and it can be turned into the UEFA Euro of cricket. Unfortunately, the incompetence of the ACC has turned it into something totally insignificant.

If ACC can manage to market the tournament, and give it more importance, then I think the Asia Cup should in fact be expanded into something much bigger and better.

It would be awesome to have matches played all over Asia, with home and away fixtures, and then a really hyped final.

I think, that’ll be too short & too insignificant tournament - only 9 games and most one sided contest.

I think, best could be to play with 5 teams round-robin - each plays each other, then top 2 plays in final. That’s 11 games in 14 days, with each team plays 4 games in 10-12 days & both finalists 5 I 14 days. Same equation goes to 16 games if we make it 6 team, which will need minimum 15 days - Friday start, Friday finish. That makes 5 games for each in 11-13 days before final. If you want to make it 14 days with 6 teams, couple of days should have twin games, otherwise those two teams starting tournament on Day 3 will be over stressed.

Their Marquee match is between India and Pakistan. Just to fit this in they have compromised the entire tournament. Anyway it's all about money and they felt it was the best way to pump money from broadcasters

Agreed. This format is also much better than the one we have now.
