Here, I have listed down the top 10 bowlers of all-time (fast bowlers, spin bowlers all included) to have played for Asian teams.

The criteria set is very simple and is strictly for tests, i.e. 150 test wickets for pacers and 200 for spinners.

Here we go.

The names that miss out by a whisker are Shoaib Akhtar, Rangana Herath, Ravichandran Ashwin, Saqlain Mushtaq and Mohammad Shami.

I would put Saqlain Mushtaq, Saeed Ajmal, Shoaib Akhtar in there instead of Vaas, Bedi and Chandrasekhar.

I really liked Saqlain's bowling but he was good enough for a place in the team for just 6-7 years, the time when he averaged 29 with 200 wickets, so he misses out from the list. Obviously an ATG ODI spin bowler without any doubt.

Qadir was also excellent in ODIs but in tests, he averages only 33 which is mediocre. He did revived the art of leg spin which was dyeing during that time but overall he was a mediocre test bowler given the pace bowling support he had.

Funnily enough in ODIs, India don't even have a great ODI bowler, I rate Kumble very highly in tests but in ODIs, he was very mediocre atleast in the second half(can recall post 2000s only). Yuzi and Kuldeep can easily surpass him.

For other 4 slots, you can pick different bowlers but they should have done enough to justify being among the greatest 10. Names like Qadir should be a non-starter because he averages near 50 outside of home and there are much better home bully bowlers than Qadir.

Excellent post. Kumble is definitely one of the other four picks, 600+ wickets at an average under 30 is excellent. He was India's no 1 test bowler for almost two decades so that counts a lot. Chandra was the most all-round spin bowler since the 70s.

I will consider Shoaib as well. At his peak, he was one of the finest fast bowlers but if he would have played more, he wouldn't have been averaging as good. Final pick must be Chaminda Vaas.
