Asif Ali - Average FC 24, List-A 31, ODIs 26. Is this a joke?

We all know that Asif is a mediocre players and should not be anywhere close to our ODI team. He should have never picked for the ODI team.

If you are not capable of scoring runs in our pathetic domestic cricket then how on earth can we expect him to score runs in international matches against quality bowlers.

The guy can not bat. It is simple, if he knew how to bat then he would have shown this in 73 List A matches.

Do we have zero standard when it comes to picking players for Pakistan team. Are we judging them on how stylish they may look for 6 balls they will play in the match.

Even if he score three centuries in next three matches then it does not mean he suddenly learnt how to play cricket. This will be a fluke and he will remain mediocre in the next 30 matches he plays. Asif should go back to domestic and learn how to bat first.

This is becoming a big joke. What on earth is Misbah smoking to pick Asif in the team.

Worst cricketer to come out of Pakistan. However, he is best mates with Misbah so Asif Buttler is untouchable.

It's a classic example of selectors simply reading numbers from a page and ignoring context/previous history of a player.

Asif Ali averaged 56 at SR of 141 in recent Pakistan Cup. However all the matches were played on dead wickets at the State Bank Ground where the boundaries are tiny. Massive scores were being racked up in every match. He then made one or two big scores in the intra-squad warm-ups prior to this tour, again presumably on dead wickets with a fraction of the bounce of South African wickets. They saw Khushdil and Iftikhar failing so decided to go back to Asif.

However they completely ignored his previous run in 2018/19 where (minusing matches against ZIM and HK) he averaged 22 after 12 matches.

The simplest solution was to play Haider at 5 and Danish at 6. However it seems we always have to carry 2-3 players for no good reason.

i hope he does well and proves us wrong, but this was an experiment that should have ended some time ago

He won't prove nothing even if he scores century in this match. You can fluke your way to century.

He wants to prove us wrong. Good, go back and prove us wrong in domestic cricket. Don't use International matches for this

He will have a Afridi type batting career.

Play him in 50 games and 5 games he will come good.

Looking at his domestics stats, he should be nowhere near the ODI team.

He has proved at every single that he cannot bat. It is absolute madness that Pakistan continues to persist with him.

He is barely domestic cricket standard and is unbelievably lucky to have international caps.

not his fault he has been selected, not like he is a younis or hafeez who can play politics for his selection

I agree he shouldn't here, he shouldn't be in the 11, but that doesn't mean we cant have a fool's hope while the game is on

To think this guy is batting at 5, a spot once occupied by the great Inzamam-ul-Haq...what a joke!

It's not just Asif either. What is middle of the road Danish Aziz doing in this team? His stats are quite pathetic too.

To think, we actually have decent options available. Haider Ali is of course the most obvious on this tour, but we have plenty more. What the hell is going on???

Today it will all get exposed and you will see shameless Misbah hiding behind "youngster" excuses.

I am very concerned he might fluke his way to quick fire 50 today.

Then even a nuclear war wouldn't stop team management from not picking him.

Hang on, our darling is coming in to bat.

Boundary riders, get ready!!!

And now shadab has come out ahead of him

What does that tell you? Baffling selection

Even the management don't have any confidence in the faisalabadi butler

Oh man m wasim is gonna get it in the neck for these bizarre selections

As bad as his selection was, the management is still to blame. Why in the world do these idiots have Haider on the bench?

What is going on? Can someone explain the unexplainable

Like I said earlier, Asif performed in the Pakistan Cup with an avg/SR of 56/141 but what these fools in our think tank didn't realise is it came on dead wickets with tiny boundaries at the State Bank Ground in Karachi.

Nearly every batsmen were making merry in that tournament.

I really don't understand Misbah.

He got Haider Ali sitting there and also Mohammad Hafeez is available yet he picks Asif Ali. I just dont get it.

This is laughable! Those who have selected him are hiding him now!

Don't get the logic of moving him to 7 if he's supposed to be in the team as a front line batsman.

As usual, score his mediocre 20 runs and get out. Exactly what he has done always in domestic cricket. Genius Misbah.

The bigger question is on what basis was he picked in the ODI team? He has never constructed an innings or even shown glimpses of doing so.

Bio secure bubble also played a huge role in Asif getting another call up in ODIs when Saud got injured however, him getting straight to the XI was really questionable.

Haider Ali and Sarfraz should have come in for hack Asif and Danish. The management is clueless.Hafiz and Sharjeel are also available.Misbah has to explain why he keeps playing Asif.

The managment are at fault here

How is someone not deemed good enough for the original squad goes straight into the team when he has no intnl record to speak of

Unforgivable from all of Asif, Shadab, Rizwan, Babar and Imam really.

Apparently in the Highveld where the air is thinner the ball travels faster for some scientific reason I won't get into. And the boundary was shorter on one side.

Basically that means if you just got set at the crease and didn't do anything silly, it was excellent batting conditions and 340 was chaseable.

But that requires selecting proper batsmen with some grey matter in their skulls.

Replace Asif with Haider for the last game please. Also, perhaps unpopular opinion and to give him a proper series before a potential dropping, keep Danish for the last game as well.

He should be sent back on the first flight back. Humiliate him. PCB should also go out of their way to ban him from PSL. We can't waste resources on trash like him.

No fault of him if I am being honest. He is just playing to the best of his abilities and temperament. He is just a messenger. And one should never shoot the messenger. We need to see who sent the message.

A lack of game awareness.

Think about boundary sizes, think about which way the wind is bowling, think about what the bowlers are doing, think about strong and weak bowlers.

Don't just stand there and hit and hope as that only works once in a blue moon.

Shoot him. He isn't there on merit. There is some sort of history/friendship between him and Misbah that is being leveraged. He shouldn't be allowed to profit. Hold him accountable.

Worst was Kamran Akmal, hands down. Poor poor batsman, worst keeper in history of cricket, and a shady character.

Irony was Kami always somehow made it into an ICC/ACC tournament on its eve, till Sarfaraz announced himself (2014)

Whilst he was in the req rate was 10-11.

In the over he was out fakhar had scored 9 off 4 balls. 2 singles to end over would have kept the rate up.

Instead he plays a stupid shot. Indeed its poor game management.

He needs to be dropped for good.

But he hit a couple of slog sixes during the PSL two seasons ago. That was enough for a selector's wet dream.

He’s an awful hack, hasn’t improved his technique or batting.

But what’s even worse is that he has no match awareness or more bluntly a cricket brain.

Fakhar had already hit a 6 in that over, so he decided to do the same. But even then at least hit straight - that was just a wild tail ender swipe.

He has to go.

It just stinks of someone with a poor temperament

You know as a viewer where he will get out And its always a skyer to cow corner

Its simply not good enough to keep repeating the same mistakes time and time again and not learning or improving your shot selections

Hopefully dropped forever now. Asif does not know how to build a proper innings. He can’t even land a couple sixes!

Asif Ali just isn't good enough to play for Pakistan. Would rather have Mohammad Nawaz, Ifti chacha or Hussain Talat. You need a big hitter for the sake of one isn't good enough. Aamir Yamin would have also been a good option.

Now you guys will understand when we see Jadhav in our batting line up, at least Jadhav has couple of centuries to his name

Asif overchieved both his ODI and domestic average in the 2nd ODI - why the fuss?

Surely, such a player was picked taking all of this into consideration.

Feel absolutely sick watching him out in the green suit. Awful player.
