At least 11 coal miners were killed in the Mach area of Balochistan on Sunday after armed militants kidnapped them and took them to a nearby area before opening fire at close range.

Police authorities said the miners were on the way to work when armed militants kidnapped them and took them to the nearby mountains. Moazzam Ali Jatoi, an official with the Levies Force, said six of the miners were dead on the spot, and five who were critically wounded died on the way to a hospital.

Jatoi said an initial investigation revealed the attackers identified the miners as being from the Shia Hazara community and the gunmen took them away for execution, leaving others unharmed.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

According to Quetta Deputy Commissioner Murad Kaas, no case has been registered so far.

A heavy contingent of police, Frontier Corps, and district administration officials reached the site after the incident.

Prime Minister Imran Khan condemned the miners' killing, terming it "yet another cowardly inhumane act of terrorism".

"Have asked the FC to use all resources to apprehend these killers & bring them to justice. The families of the victims will not be left abandoned by the govt," he said in a tweet.

Minister for Interior Sheikh Rashid Ahmed while condemning the killings asked the Balochistan inspector general of police to submit a report on the incident.

"Terrorists will not succeed in their nefarious objectives. Elements involved in the incident are not deserving of any laxity," he said.

Information Minister Shibli Faraz said the shootings in Mach were "condemnable and saddening". Foreign enemies are making constant efforts to destablise Pakistan, he added.

Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari said: "Indian funded terrorists in Balochistan getting [are] more desperate as development comes to province".

"Socio[economic] empowerment & Insaf for the Baloch are how we will defeat the terrorists," she tweeted.

Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan Alyani too "strongly condemned the tragic incident".

PPP chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari termed the incident as "the worst form of terrorism".

In a statement, Bilawal called on the government to take action and provide protection to miners working in the coalfields.

The PPP chairperson also asked the federal and provincial governments to provide "compensation to the families of the miners and ensure that such incidents do not occur again".

'Wave of terrorism'
Balochistan government spokesperson Liaquat Shahwani said that security forces had surrounded the area and started an investigation. "[We] will bring the terrorists to justice," he vowed.

Speaking to media later in the day, Shahwani said the incumbent government had improved the law and order situation and restored peace in the province, with the result that terrorism incidents had declined by 75 per cent in 2020 as compared to 2018.

He said the government and people of Balochistan shared the pain of the relatives of the deceased miners.

Shahwani urged the workers' relatives who are protesting in the area to have faith in the government, saying the investigation into the incident was underway and the perpetrators would be brought to book.

"We won't allow the lights that have we restored to be turned into darkness at any cost," the spokesperson said, attributing today's incident to a "wave of terrorism" in which law enforcement personnel were also targeted in recent weeks. He promised that the government will ensure the welfare of the families of the deceased miners.

Restive province
There has been an uptick in violence in restive Balochistan, with several incidents of terrorism being reported last year.

On October 16, seven soldiers of Frontier Corps (FC) Balochistan and seven security guards were martyred in an 'encounter' with a "large number of terrorists" while escorting a convoy of state-run Oil & Gas Development Company Ltd (OGDCL) on the Makran Coastal Highway in Ormara.

The convoy was on its way to Karachi from Gwadar when it came under attack.

In April 2019, at least 14 people, including 11 personnel of Navy, Air Force and Coast Guards, were killed by gunmen after they were picked out with the help of their computerised national identity cards (CNICs) and offloaded from seven buses in the Buzi Pass area near Ormara.

The incident had taken place on the Makran Coastal Highway linking Karachi with the port city of Gwadar. The buses were going to Gwadar from Karachi.

An alliance of three banned militant organisations — the Balochistan Liberation Front, Balochistan Republican Army and Baloch Republican Guard — had claimed responsibility for the killings.

QUETTA: The Hazara community, as well as other political parties, launched protests on Sunday over the massacre of coal miners in Balochistan's Bolan district, blocking several roads in the provincial capital.

At least 11 colliers were shot dead after armed men stormed the Machh coal field on Sunday morning, took the miners to nearby mountains, and opened fire. Four others were seriously wounded, police confirmed.

The Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) staged a sit-in at Quetta's Western Bypass, demanding the Balochistan government either arrest the terrorists responsible for the Machh massacre or resign.

MWM leader Syed Muhammad Agha Raza said Prime Minister Imran Khan should come to Quetta to meet with and reassure the bereaved families of the victims.

The Hazara community staged a separate protest, taking to the Western Bypass to mourn the incident and voice their grievances.

A traffic jam was reported at the thoroughfare from the Baleli checkpost to the intersection at Quetta's Airport Road due to the protest, with dozens of vehicles stranded and passengers and transporters facing difficulties in travelling.

Meeting called
On the other hand, various Hazara political parties and organisations held a meeting to discuss the Machh massacre and strategies going forward.

Members of Hazara community burn tyres during a protest after the killing of 11 colliers in Quetta, Pakistan, January 3, 2021.
Parliamentary Leader and Adviser Abdul Khaliq Hazara, Balochistan Shia Conference (BSC) President Syed Dawood Agha, Quetta Solidarity Council (QSC) leader Tahir Khan Hazara, and MWM's Agha Raza.

Earlier in the day, the government of Balochistan ruled out any security lapses, with its spokesperson, Liaquat Shahwani, telling Geo News that the incident was an act of terrorism.

Shahwani said the law and order situation in the area "was satisfactory", which was why "this incident wasn't expected", and that the locality where the massacre took place was quite large. The Balochistan government would increase security in the area after assessing the situation, he added.

Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal took notice of the Machh massacre, expressing sorrow over the loss of life and seeking a report from the concerned authorities.

'Pakistan's enemies' responsible
Prime Minister Imran Khan condemned the "cowardly inhumane act of terrorism", saying he had advised the Frontier Corps (FC) personnel "to use all resources to apprehend these killers & bring them to justice".

"The families of the victims will not be left abandoned by the govt," PM Imran Khan said on Twitter.

They were beheaded and all of them were Hazaras. In fact, some coal miners were let off after attackers found out they were Sunnis.

inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi rajioon

The Hazaras have been suffering for long, for over century.

Funeral of 11 Balochistan coal miners executed in Machh terror attack today

MACHH: Eleven coal miners killed in a sectarian terror attack at the Machh coalfield in Balochistan a day earlier will be buried today (Monday).

Police had said armed men took the coal miners to nearby mountains where they shot them. At least 11 were confirmed dead and four injured were said to be in critical condition.

All the victims of sectarian terrorism were handcuffed and killed in rooms.

The families of the victims, including women and children, continue to stage a sit-in on the Quetta-Sibi highway with the victim's bodies. They want the Balochistan government to arrest the killers or resign.

In Karachi, a protest rally was held, while a demonstration was held at the exhibition square and candles were lit in Multan.

In Quetta, Hazaras are continuing to protest the Machh incident on Western Bypass near Hazara Town

On Sunday, 11 coal miners were shot to death and four severely injured in Balochistan's Bolan district.

The wounded colliers were taken to the Machh hospital for treatment.

After news of the incident broke, police and Frontier Corps (FC) personnel arrived at the coal mine.

Prime Minister Imran Khan condemned the incident, referring to it as a "cowardly inhumane act of terrorism".

"Have asked the FC to use all resources to apprehend these killers & bring them to justice," the premier said on Twitter.

"The families of the victims will not be left abandoned by the govt," he vowed.

Hope the loved ones of the dead get justice.

Looks like Pakistani government officials have already decided who is responsible for this attack.

We pay at least $12 billion to the military every year so that they can tell us that India is behind every attack in Pakistan. Mashallah!

An overwhelmingly Muslim majority country that is seemingly intolerant of any minority...

The same country that takes to the streets when muslim minorities are slighted elsewhere on the planet, apart from in China of course, because there, empathy and sentiment come a poor second to economic pragmatism...

“The throats of all coal miners have been slit, after their hands were tied behind their backs and (they were) blind folded,” a security official told Reuters, requesting anonymity as he is not allowed to speak to media.

Barbarity in the name of a God we refer to as beneficent and merciful.

Quite hypocritical of Imran Khan to condemn...

His deselection of a minority economic advisor in week one of his tenure sent out a clear, green light message to the religous loons that their views take precedence in his naya Pakistan

What an embarrassment this PTI ministry is turning out to be. Sadly we are stuck with these incompetent puppets.

We pay at least $12 billion to the military every year so that they can tell us that India is behind every attack in Pakistan. Mashallah!

When will PTI government take action against groups like IS operating inside Pakistan to commit acts of terror like this against Pakistanis? Or are their lives of Hazaras dispensable in the eyes of the Establishment?

Policy of supporting terror outfits will not stop. It is alleged that the military uses Sunni militants in Balochistan to assassinate Baloch dissidents in return for turning a blind eye and allowing them a freehand to do whatever they want to do.

If you listen to TTP leader Ahsanullah Ahsan -who was arrested but fled from house arrest last year-, he also mentions that he was told by the military that all his sins will be forgiven if he led a death squad to kill Baloch and Pushtun ‘traitors’.

Shia Iran training Sunni Taliban to fight Sunni ISIS? I remember reading news on a daily basis when Afghan Taliban was killing Shias in Afghanistan.

Quetta/Islamabad, Pakistan – Hundreds of members of Pakistan’s ethnic Hazara community have held a protest against the killing of 10 coal miners in a targeted attack in the southwestern province of Balochistan, refusing to bury their dead until the government meets their demands.

Protesters gathered on a highway in the western part of the provincial capital of Quetta on Monday to protest against the killing of the miners a day earlier, the coffins of their relatives laid out on the ground before them.

“He was the son of my aunt, what was his crime? Someone tell me his crime, for God’s sake, someone just tell me what fault he committed?” cried out Masooma Bibi, whose brother and cousin were killed in the attack.

Unidentified gunmen stormed a coal mine near the town of Mach, about 50km east of Quetta, on Sunday, pulling out ethnic Hazaras – who are members of the country’s minority Shia community and have distinctive facial features – from their residential quarters.

They then marched them to the nearby mountains where they opened fire on them, killing several people, Moazzam Ali Jatoi, a local security official, told news agencies on Sunday.

Senior security official Hafiz Abdul Basit confirmed to Al Jazeera on Monday that 10 people had been killed in the attack, contradicting earlier reports by news agencies and the prime minister’s office that put the death toll at 11.

Armed group ISIL (or ISIS) claimed responsibility for the attack in a post on the group’s Amaq news service. A picture accompanying the claim showed two armed men standing over three bodies lying face down on the ground, with an ISIL flag hanging in the background.

Ethnic Hazaras in Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest but least populated and poorest province, have long been persecuted for their faith, facing targeted attacks and large-scale bombings that have killed hundreds in the last two decades.

Most Hazaras in Balochistan live in Quetta, a city of about 1.1 million people that is the capital of Balochistan province. The city is home to an estimated 500,000 Hazaras, most of whom live in two heavily guarded enclaves on either end of the city, Hazara Town and Alamdar Road.

Both enclaves are surrounded by high walls and barbed wire, with security personnel heavily restricting entry to non-Hazaras. The government says it can guarantee members of the community’s safety within the walls of the enclave, but that they remain at risk if they leave.

Investigation continuing
“For 22 years, [our demands] are the same: that our killers are arrested, that their facilitators are arrested and those who lead them be arrested. It is not so difficult to understand this,” says Saeed Muhammad Raza, a local leader of the Shia Muslim Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) political party.

“If the rulers do not understand this, then I do not know what their compulsions are that they cannot act against those who lead these terrorists, nor can they act against [the attackers] themselves.”

The protesters have demanded that the miners’ killers be brought to justice and that the government form an independent judicial commission to investigate the continuing attacks against Hazaras.

“The demand is that the prime minister of Pakistan come here and form an independent judicial committee and that every single killer, their facilitators, their leaders and those who fund them should be identified and punished,” said Raza.

On Sunday, Pakistani PM Imran Khan said he had “asked the [Frontier Corps security force] to use all resources to apprehend these killers [and] bring them to justice” and that “[t]he families of the victims will not be left abandoned by the govt”.

Security official Basit told Al Jazeera on Monday that the investigation into the attack was continuing and that it was premature to reveal any details.

“Things have improved quite a lot, but this incident has just happened and we will look into it,” he said. The government was also negotiating with the protesters, he said.

‘Give us justice’

Five of Abdul Manan’s relatives were among those killed on Sunday.

“This is the government’s failure, isn’t it? So we ask the current government that the killers must be immediately apprehended and punished,” he told Al Jazeera at the protest site.

“They are poor people [and] no one among those who survive them [could support the family].”
Manan said the protesters were willing to brave the harsh winter conditions, with temperatures falling below freezing overnight, for as long as it takes.

“Our demand is that if you arrest the killers then we will, God willing, bury the bodies. But until the killers are apprehended, we will sit here in protest.”

The hundreds gathered at the protest raised their hands in unison, chanting slogans acclaiming the sacrifice of their “martyrs” and reaffirming their religious identity. Between them lay 10 coffins, each draped in a white shroud, carrying a religious inscription in stark red letters.

Some gazed into the distance, others leaned on each other – or the coffins – for support.

“Turn his killers over to us. We are exhausted from having carried so many bodies, why do you people not understand?” shouted Masooma Bibi.

“For God’s sake, give us justice. Give us justice!”

Shia Iran training Sunni Taliban to fight Sunni ISIS? I remember reading news on a daily basis when Afghan Taliban was killing Shias in Afghanistan.

Yeah, Iran (shia majority) and Iraq (Sunni majority) have come together to fight ISIS.

IS in Afghanistan are targeting the Taliban, in an attempt to take control of Afghanistan. Many of the Taliban fighters will defect over to the IS probably because they get paid more.

Now, the reason why I say ISIS is backed by Israel and America is quite simple. Why does ISIS never attack Israel? Or, why has it never threatened Israel? I remember reading an article a couple of years ago where it said ISIS were “too scared” to attack Israel, and that they fear retaliation. So they’re afraid of being killed by Israel, but they’re not afraid of being bombed by Hezbollah, Syrian army or by the Russians?

Israel’s only objective is to weaken Iran, and Baluchistan is probably the best way to attack Iran through proxies. Not only that but Americans are also playing a major role in this because of CPEC and China’s influence in Baluchistan.

Shia Iran training Sunni Taliban to fight Sunni ISIS? I remember reading news on a daily basis when Afghan Taliban was killing Shias in Afghanistan.

And that’s why Iran has been training and funding Taliban fighters. They’re making sure IS don’t attack them through Baluchistan.

Machh tragedy: Sheikh Rashid shares demands of Hazara protesters with PM Imran Khan

Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed called on Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad today (Tuesday) to brief the premier over his Quetta visit a day earlier.

The minister visited Quetta on the special instructions of the Prime Minister and met the Hazara community.

Thousands of people protesting the brutal kidnapping and execution of 11 coal miners in Balochistan's Machh have refused to call off their sit-in till Prime Minister Imran Khan visits Quetta.

The miners were Shia Hazaras. Their families are protesting on the Quetta-Sibi highway since Sunday. They want justice.

"Prime Minister Imran Khan himself should visit Quetta and look into all these issues," the leader of the Hazaras said Monday.

The terror attack on the miners has been claimed by the Islamic State.

Up to 2,500 protesters staged a sit-in, gathered with eight bodies in coffins and blocked a bypass on the outskirts of Quetta, demanding justice Monday. "We will not end our protest until the arrest of all the assassins," Balochistan Shia Conference chief Agha Daud said

"The latest wave of killings will spread to other cities including Quetta if a decisive action is not taken at this stage," he said.

The protesting relatives of miners demanded the resignation of the Balochistan government.

Ready to accept all demands except Balochistan govt resignation: Sheikh Rashid

Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed reached Quetta Monday evening and joined a sit-in organised by the Hazaras and families of the deceased coal miners a day after the Machh massacre.

He said he is ready to accept all the demands of the Hazara people, except the resignation of the Balochistan government.

"Today or tomorrow morning I will inform the Prime Minister about the message of the protesters," Rashid said.

Rashid had announced compensation amounting to Rs2.5 million for each family of coal mine workers.

“Each family of the martyrs will be given Rs1 million by the Prime Minister, while Rs1.5 million by the chief minister of Balochistan,” Rashid told the media.

He reportedly flew to Quetta on the instructions of PM Khan. The minister was accompanied by National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri and Balochistan's chief secretary.

"On Prime Minister Imran Khan's special instructions, I arrived in Quetta alongside Federal Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed to share the grief of the families of the martyrs of the Machh tragedy, assure our Hazara community of immediate justice, and to review the security situation," Suri wrote on Twitter.

The silence on this issue is deafening.

As Muslims, Pakistanis speak up for Uyghurs, Syrians, Palestinians etc but when it comes to Hazara or Parachinar community then the silence is deafening. I wonder what Shias have done to this country to deserve this complete lack of support.

No proper media coverage. Not even celebrities want to highlight this while everyone wants to get on their high horse to talk about IOK which is an issue they can't even influence.

We Pakistanis are our own worst enemies. We import our Islam from the Middle East and export our loyalties to the 1st World countries.

^ In the latest PDM, if I remember correctly, Fazlu talked about Palestine and Burma but did not mention anything about the ongoing Shia genocide.

Also, our celebrities refuse to speak up for Pakistani minorities because they know they will received lots of hate comments from fellow Pakistanis. I think it should not be like this. As a celebrity, you should stand up for what is right.

Ushna Shah was very active about minority rights and women rights in Pakistan till a few months ago but she has gone quiet because she received unbelievable amount of hate.People accused her of defaming Pakistan and being an agent.

Pakistan is one of the worst countries for minorities, women, gays..... ONE OF THE WORST. Shameful. PM should fix the country before lecturing others.

People like you are an insult and abuse the term genocide. How many times have you been put in your place by Shia posters on this forum alone.

As for agents, the disinfo reports show how many paid Indian trolls are running around everywhere.

As for the topic, it's sad and nothing will be done. Religious parties don't win votes but the average Joe still makes it impossible to get the changes in laws passed out.

Its on the front page of all major news papers. So was the parchinar attack.

And as far as IOK, we consider Kashmirs no different than other Pakistanis. So that will get covered also.

Their is no Shia genocide in Pakistan, and Shia are not considered to be a minority in Pakistan. As far as Pakistanis go, minorities are Hindus, Christians, Parsis. As in non Muslims are the minority.

Imran Khan should go to Quetta. I dont know what hes waiting for. He needs to go and visit the people there, and not delegate it to Sheikh Rasheed.

Several roads blocked as protests against Hazara killings continue in Karachi for 2nd day

Several roads in Karachi were blocked on Wednesday as protests continued for a second day and spilled over to different areas of the metropolis against the killing of Shia Hazara miners in the Mach area of Balochistan earlier this week.

Television footage showed plumes of smoke rising as demonstrators took to the streets, burning tyres and wood and disrupting traffic.

According to a police update, today's protests, which were organised by the Majlis-i-Wahdat-i-Muslimeen (MWM), were happening at several places across the city, including Abbas Town, Abul Hasan Ispahani Road, Kamran Chowrangi at Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Power House Chowrangi in North Karachi, M. A. Jinnah Road, Sharea Faisal and Malir 15. One track of the Sharea Faisal was also closed for traffic, according to the update.

In another update, Karachi traffic police said the protests had spread to other areas of the city as well including Nipa Chowrangi. It said the road leading from Capri Cinema to Guru Mandir was closed for traffic and directed people to use the Soldier Bazaar route.

DIG Traffic Iqbal Dara along with other officials visited several areas of the city and oversaw efforts to keeping traffic flow undisrupted. He said a heavy contingent of traffic police officials was being posted in all locations across Karachi.

A day earlier, members of the Hazara community staged sit-ins in various parts of the city including Abbas Town, Numaish, and outside the Karachi Press Club.

Over 200 men, women, and children from the Hazara community had gathered at the KPC, demanding that Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa ensure the safety of their community.

Holding red and green flags printed with "Ya Hussain", many other youngsters were seen holding placards which urged that "ethnic cleansing" of Hazaras be stopped.

On Sunday, armed attackers slit the throats of 11 miners in a residential compound near a mine site in Balochistan's Mach coalfield area, filming the entire incident and later posting it online. The gruesome attack was claimed by the militant Islamic State (IS) group.

Since then, thousands of Hazaras have staged a protest, arranging the coffins in the western bypass area in Quetta while members of their community have also held protests in Karachi.

The MWM also held protests in the city on Tuesday that were attended by hundreds of people including men, women and children.

"If someone really is concerned about our security and tragedy we are facing, it must be reflected by their moves," said Maulana Sadiq Jaffery, senior leader of the MWM, while addressing the protesters at Numaish yesterday.

"It’s so unfortunate the presence of hundreds of women and children [in] chilling cold in Quetta has not inspired the authorities. These protesters want peace, not violence or bloodshed. So protest is the only option left for us to convey our concerns which will continue."

Along with the MWM, the Shia Ulema Council, Jafria Alliance, Imamia Students Organisation and Jafria Students Organisation also participated in the protest.

Hundreds of Hazara have been killed over the last decade in attacks, including bombings in schools and crowded markets and brazen ambushes of buses along roads.

Pakistan asked to send back bodies of 3 Afghans killed in Balochistan mine attack

The Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan has written a letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs requesting that the bodies of three Afghan citizens, among the 11 killed in the mountainous Bolan district three days ago, be transferred back to Afghanistan.

In a letter to the ministry's Camp Office in Quetta dated Jan 5, the Consulate General said: "As you know, in the terrorist incident that took place in Mach area of Bolan district of Balochistan province by the anti-governments and joint terrorists of the two countries, seven Afghan citizens are among the victims."

The heirs of three martyrs have requested that their dead bodies be transferred to Afghanistan, the letter said. "Therefore, your esteemed office is kindly requested to contact the relevant authorities to grant permission for transferring the mentioned three corpses via the Chaman-Spin Boldak Corridor."

On January 4, eleven coal miners belonging to the Shia Hazara community sleeping in their room were held at gunpoint, blindfolded and trussed up before being executed by unidentified attackers in the Mach coal field area.

The militant Islamic State group or Daesh claimed responsibility for the killing.

The gruesome attack that took place in the mountainous Bolan district, some 100km from Quetta, sparked street protests and drew nationwide condemnation.

Prime Minister Imran Khan, while terming it "yet another cowardly inhumane act of terrorism", ordered the Frontier Corps to use all resources to bring the killers to justice and assured families of the victims that they would not be left abandoned by the government.

However, the Shia Hazara community has blockaded a highway in Quetta with the bodies of slain coal miners, calling for the ouster of the provincial government and a judicial probe into the incident.

Fazl condemns Machh massacre, questions PTI govt claim of defeating terrorists

Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman heavily criticised the PTI government over the Machh tragedy, in which 11 coal miners were kidnapped and executed on January 3.

"The government says it has defeated the terrorists, where is that defeat?" Fazl asked in a media talk in Dera Ismail Khan on Wednesday.

He called the Machh massacre a tragic incident and said those responsible should be brought to justice

All minority communities in the country are in a vulnerable position, he said

People like you are a shame to humanity for refuse to acknowledge an ongoing genocide.

You need to look up the word genocide.

Our country was ruled by Shias for a long time, still have one party led by Shias in PPP which is popular. You can't get nations by victims of genocide.

I think I am one of the biggest bashers of Pakistan in terms of minority and their treatment and unlike you me and my family have done a lot for minorities back home especially when it came to providing free medical treatment or raising the issue on social media. Half my time on social media is spent debating this issue as one of my closest friends is a Pakistani Christian. I am not even religious at all so you can't even throw that nonsense at me. Your debates mostly consist of you using over the top buzz words like tabloid rags do in some nations. That's your credibility.

So kindly do one before making comments on me. And read up the word genocide. You're an absolute disgrace for misusing such a massive word for stupid glory points on a forum. I have no idea why others waste their time on you or why I am. My bad.

I am not here to make friends.

I still stand by my assessment that there is an ongoing Shia genocide in Pakistan. At least 6000 Shias have been murdered in the decade or so.

Shirin Mazari’s tweet in 2017: LeJ is killing Shias in Balochistan.

What an incompetent and bootlicker cabinet!

I still stand by my assessment that there is an ongoing Shia genocide in Pakistan. At least 6000 Shias have been murdered in the decade or so.

And 70,000 Sunnis have been murdered in the last 10 years, yeah, the extremist Wahabbi organisations are carrying out a Sunni genocide too to follow your nonsense logic. As all those terror groups don't consider an average joe a proper Muslim either. That's why Pakistan was destroyed and ravaged by these scumbags for over ten years.

6000 Shias dead out of 20 million in Pakistan. That's 0.03 of their total population dead in the last decade. And a big chunk of our country is till run by Shias who have massive support. This is some genocide.

Like I said, you're an absolute disgrace. You really are an absolute disgrace, spreading misinformation and propaganda. Even your own numbers make you look foolish.

Before you make more of a fool of yourself, go waste someone else's time instead of mine.

Sunnis were not chosen and murdered. They were caught in the crossfire in attacks against government and military targets. They were not killed for being Sunnis. Nobody checked their IDs to verify they were Sunnis before murdering them.

Stop your nonsense. Your fake outrage impresses no one. PK army will deal with your friends like it dealt with TTP.

[MENTION=48598]saeedhk[/MENTION] speaks the truth but as usual our mega patriots cannot handle any criticism of PTI puppets or the Establishment. It is clear as day that what is happening in Pakistan but people are so scared to even talk about it or prefer denialism as shown by [MENTION=1269]Bewal Express[/MENTION]. We have a long way to go if we are going to fix our problems and pretending that they don't exist isn't the right path to take.

While minorities are being slaughtered in Pakistan,it is sheer hypocrisy of our people to be concerned about rising trend of Islamophobia. The world will only laugh at when we talk about Islamophobia, where as minorities are being treated this in our country.Similarly,we should be least ineterested how India treats Muslims;we should focus more on how to protect the lives of minorities here.

Rubbish, I condemn murder of any innocent person and the PK army will deal with them. I have no trust in your posts in the light of the Srivastava group revelations. They revealed who and the other guy work for.

You mean the way they treated TTP leader Ehsanullah Ehsan - the murderer of APS kids?

Or you mean how they used him to get to the murderers. What happened to the culprits? Was it really a mystery how they were blown up? I bet soon you will be crying for them too, like the PTM did with Naqeeb and then became friends with AZ. We see the Srivastava group losers for what they are.

Hi Zahid Hamid! He was treated so well that he fathered a child while in captivity. He had access to a butler and the Internet. Mashallah! A guest of the state.

As long as he was used to get to the killers, then i am happy. Sometimes unpalatable compromises have to be done.

The only facts are that he was allowed to go and the ones that did the killing are meeting their maker. Outside that you or him can claim anything they like. Rest assured The Killers of Shias will soon meet their maker

Why did you avoid my point on PTM, who do they work for? We have seen who these so called "Baluch activists" work for? Yes Yadav was their pay master. Your posts are dishonest and Srivastava group needs to find better disinformation guys

Tell me more about PTM? why are you running from answering my question and didn't some of "missing Baluch" get found.

Import Islam from middle east?

They weren't killed in the cross fire. Putting bombs in markets or mosques wasn't cross fire. They were killed before terror groups consider them infidels due to them not protesting against the US.

0.03% deaths apparently is a genocide when the same groups have killed more non-Shias x 10. Terror groups don't care who dies, they'd be as happy to kill you and me as they are any non-Sunnis. Their main justification for killing 70,000 people was because the entire Pakistani nation deserved it for not protesting or overthrowing the 'Kafir US puppet government'. To them anyone who isn't like them or a Wahaabi is kaafir. I myself was next to a blast in Islamabad in the 2000s in a market near F8 markaz which was targeted at the average joe. Anyone with even 1% knowledge of TTP, IS would know who they consider Muslim or not.

Get your act together and stop disgracing the word genocide. You can condemn a scummy incident like the rest of us without coming off as a rabid tabloid.

Weren’t Sunni mosques and shrines specific target of bomb blasts in the past? Why are you polluting this thread with your agenda ?

These terrorist have targeted everyone, their main goal is to cause unrest.

Oh no no, those 70,000 in a few years is just cross fire you know? Simple collateral. But 0.03 percent in ten years by the same terrorists is genocide.

Some Indian accounts started this genocide nonsense. Like they have been doing according to disinfo. And it's an absolute disgrace this guy is using the same language. Enflaming a very sensitive topic.

I mean all of us are condemnding this incident here, I don't see a single person supporting it. Last month some Indian trolls started the genocide nonsense and this guy keeps on repeating it when according to his numbers its nothing like a genocide. For him 6000 over ten years, 0.03% percent of Shias is a genocide but he casually brushes over 70,000 other deaths as 'cross fire' when almost all of them were due to bombs placed in markets, mosques, streets, hotels. Its absolutely unbelieve how callous the comment was. Even now one of our main political parties in power are Shias, a big amount of our army officers and generals are Shias. So I don't get him at all. The same terror groups would easily kill non-Shias too and have done in their 1000s. All such groups need is a guy like him to further spread misinformation.

They are especially targeted for their beliefs. Having Shias in power or in the military has ZERO bearing on the issue. There are Muslims in positions of power in India, will Pakistanis use this logic and say India is inclusive and there is no discrimination against Muslims in India? Also, there are Muslims in Israeli parliament. So, your argument has no legs to stand on.

No it's not :)) Killing 0.03 of an ethnic group is not. Blacks are also killed by racists in the US, noone claims its a genocide because its not.

No Muslim leader or party rules a province in India. No Muslim leader or party has ever ruled India in any capacity. Same for Arab Israelis. PPP still rule a province in Pakistan. PPP has ruled Pakistan multiple times.

^^You brought up the point of Shias being in position in power so they cannot be possible be targets of a genocide.

ISLAMABAD/QUETTA: Amid escalating criticism in the country and on the advice of several senior cabinet members, Prime Minister Imran Khan has decided to visit Quetta “soon” to express solidarity with the members of the Shia Hazara community, who have been protesting in Quetta for the last four days along with the bodies of the coal miners killed in Sunday’s terrorist attack in the Mach area, Dawn has learnt through sources.

“The date and time of the prime minister’s visit are being kept secret due to security concerns, but he (the PM) will pay a surprise visit very soon,” said a senior member of the federal cabinet while talking to Dawn on Wednesday hours after the prime minister appealed to the protesters to bury the bodies of the miners, promising that he would visit them “very soon.”

The minister, who is privy to behind the scene developments that had taken place after the gruesome murder of 11 miners, claimed that a number of cabinet members, including Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, had suggested to the prime minister during the cabinet meeting on Tuesday that he should undertake a visit of Quetta to pacify the mourners.

Asked why the prime minister had not visited the city so far, he said it was simply because of “security concerns”. Moreover, the minister said Mr Khan was of the view that his visit on the protesters’ demand could set a new precedent and if a terror attack took place tomorrow in any part of the country, then the people would make a similar demand that they wanted to see the prime minister before burying the victims.

Mourners continue protest

Despite extremely harsh weather as mercury dropped to below freezing point, the mourners, including women and children, have refused to leave the Western Bypass area close to Hazara Town in Quetta as their protest entered the fourth day on Wednesday.

The day-long efforts of federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Zaidi, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Overseas Pakistanis Zulfi Bukhari and Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Alyani to persuade the protesters to bury the bodies of the slain miners proved futile as the protesters refused to do so without having a meeting with the prime minister.

The two members of the federal cabinet had arrived in Quetta on Tuesday night after the protesters had rejected a similar call by Sheikh Rashid, who had visited Quetta on Monday.

“I want to reassure the Hazara families who lost their loved ones in a brutal terrorist attack in Mach that I am cognisant of their suffering & their demands,” the prime minister said on Twitter, adding that the government was taking steps to prevent such attacks in the future and “know our neighbour is instigating this sectarian terrorism.”

“I share your pain and have come to you before also to stand with you in your time of suffering. I will come again very soon to offer prayers and condole with all the families personally,” the prime minister said while addressing the mourning Hazaras.

“I will never betray my people’s trust. Please bury your loved ones so their souls find peace,” Mr Khan appealed to the protesters.

Earlier in the day, a 90-second video clip showing SAPM Zulfi Bukhari talking to some Hazara protesters in Quetta went viral on social media and received widespread criticism. He was shown asking the protesters as to what responsibility would they be taking when the prime minister would visit them.

“We say that we will bring him (the PM). He will come soon. We have promised with you,” Mr Bukhari said.

“God forbid, if tomorrow another incident takes place somewhere in Pakistan then they (the people) will say we want this and we don’t want this. If tomorrow someone else gets martyred, he will say we want this and don’t want this,” Mr Bukhari said to the protesters in the clip.

Later, talking to Dawn, Mr Bukhari said the context of the conversation was different and “this clip shows it out of context.”

The SAPM expressed the hope that they would resolve the matter by Thursday morning. He said that he had held negotiations with the protesters and told them that the government was ready to talk with them on their demands. He said that they had suggested to the protesters to hold talks with them and the prime minister would visit them when they would reach an agreement.

On the other hand, Syed Agha Raza of the Majlis-i-Wahdatul Muslimeen told the Balochistan chief minister and the two federal ministers that they would not bury the bodies till arrival of the prime minister in Quetta.

The chief minister visited the sit-in site and the Imambargah in Hazara Town and assured the mourners that he would take steps to ensure arrest of the terrorists involved in the incident and bring them to justice.

The chief minister expressed grief over the tragic incident and asked the mourners not to link the burial of the bodies of the coal miners with the prime minister’s visit.

“I take responsibility for the prime minister’s visit to Quetta to listen to your grievances and assure you that the federal and provincial governments will take joint steps to resolve the issues,” Mr Alyani said.

He said the enemies of the stability in Balochistan did not like peace and order in the province and hatched conspiracies to destabilise the situation. He said Balochistan had been burning for the past 10 years but now the situation had improved in the province to a great extent.

“We do not want to return back to the earlier situation and would take coordinated measures to suppress law and order-disturbing elements, including the ISIS,” he added.

Mr Alyani said he was abroad when the tragic incident took place. He apologised over the delay in returning to Quetta as he was required to undergo coronavirus test before travelling.

The chief minister said the law enforcement agencies were taking all steps to prevent terrorism and it had resulted in reducing terrorist attacks in the province. He said after the 18th Amendment, many matters came under the purview of the provincial government and even after the prime minister’s visit to Quetta, the problems had to be resolved by the provincial government.

“He [the prime minister] will definitely come, the president will come, ministers and parliamentarians will come. But even if the prime minister comes, we have to solve our problems ourselves,” he said.

“Suspending someone is not the solution to the problem,” the CM said.

Mr Alyani said that as Muslims, “we have our religious responsibilities [to bury the deceased]” and these should be fulfilled.

“I would request the community to not associate it with some official’s visit,” he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Zaidi said the protesters’ demands were valid “but please do not associate the burial with the PM’s visit.”

“The external enemies of Pakistan commit such acts in Pakistan. What is saddening is that we find Mir Sadiqs and Mir Jafars among us,” he said, adding that he could “present proof of foreign interference” in the country and recalling that Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav was arrested from Balochistan.

Protests over the Mach tragedy also continued in other parts of the country, including Islamabad and Karachi.

PPP chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz along with other leaders of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) will visit Quetta today to offer condolences to the affected families of the tragic Machh incident that took place last week.

The PML-N confirmed Maryam Nawaz will be visiting Quetta with other senior leaders of the party whereas Bilawal will be accompanied by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah to the Quetta visit.

Besides, a delegation of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) will also leave Islamabad for Quetta today to show solidarity with the Hazara community.

The delegation will convey Maulana Fazlur Rehman's condolence message to the Hazara community members.

Bilawal Bhutto’s arrival in will be Quetta delayed
Bilawal Bhutto’s arrival in Quetta would be delayed as he had to offload the plane after some technical default.

Sharing the update on Twitter, the PPP leader said that he has been making other arrangements and is trying his level best to reach Quetta with CM Sindh & Former PM Gillani.

“Have been trying to reach Quetta with CM Sindh & Former PM Gillani. We’ve had to offload as the plane's engine would not start. Trying to make other arrangements,” Bilawal said in a tweet.

He also stressed that Prime Minister Imran Khan must accept the demands of the victims of terrorism protesting along with their death for the fifth consecutive day now.

Tragic Machh incident
Earlier on Sunday, eleven colliers were killed and four others seriously injured after armed men opened fire at them at the Machh coalfield in Balochistan's Bolan district.

Police said armed men took the coal miners to nearby mountains where they shot them. At least 11 were confirmed dead and the injured were said to be in critical condition.

Prime Minister Imran Khan had condemned the incident, referring to it as a "cowardly inhumane act of terrorism".

"The families of the victims will not be left abandoned by the govt," he vowed.

CM Balochistan visits Hazara protest
A day earlier, Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal had visited the protest camp of the Hazara families and urged them to bury the slain coal miners.

He had appealed to let go of the condition that they will only do so if Prime Minister Imran Khan visits them.

The visit came after talks between the government and members of the Hazara community to end the latter's sit-in following the brutal killing of coal miners in Machh ended inconclusively on Tuesday night, with the protesters persistent in saying they would not bury the dead till Prime Minister Imran Khan arrives at their camp.

Women and children stage protest for fifth consecutive day
Members of the Hazara community have staged a continuous sit-in in Quetta in freezing temperatures to demand justice for the slain coal miners who were gunned down in Machh for the fifth consecutive day.

The bodies of the deceased have been kept where the community is staging its demonstration, on the Quetta-Sibi highway (Western Bypass), near Hazara Town.

Due to the presence of the protesters, the area is completely blocked off to traffic.
