One of Pakistan's esteemed writers and comedians, Athar Shah Khan breathed his last in Karachi after suffering from a stroke on Sunday.

Known popularly as Jaidi, Khan had been a prominent name on television as well as in the literary circles of Pakistan, since the past several years.

He began his career at Radio Pakistan as a writer and had 700 plays under his belt over the course of 20 years, with his most popular serial being Jedi Ke Sang.

He shot to fame with his iconic portrayal of Jaidi on PTV and NTM that was widely loved by the audience.

Some of his most popular works from 1970s to 1990s include Intezar Farmaiay, Ba Adab Ba Mulahiza Hoshiyar, Lakhon Mein Teen and Haye Jaldi.

One of my favourite actors and really part of my childhood! So sad!

RIP. I was too young to have seen him in his prime, and by the time Haye Jaidi came out circa 1997, it looked like he was uncessfully attempting to reprise past glories. My parents do remember him fondly, so the shows from the 70s must’ve been worthwhile.

Streets would be empty when the drama he was on came up...we all loved the guy

RIP Mr Jaidi.

True representative from the last era of genuine innocence of Show Bizz when its role was still constructive.

In 90s, "Haye Jaidi", "Sona Chandi"and "Kasoti" were my Favourites for contant and performances.

Kasoti was terrific. Qureshpur, Ubaidullah Baig and Ghazi Salahuddin, each one marvelously well-read, but without a shred of scholarly snobbery. My father didn’t approve of Ghazi much though: he recalled the era where Baig was paired with Iftikhar Arif, and felt that that was much the stronger team.

Ina lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajioon

Incidentally, just saw Haye Jedi on YT a few days ago. May Allah swt forgive him and grant him high place in Jannah.

Jaidi the actor has passed away

Met him in late 80s around gilgit area. Had a long meal with his family . Remember him being very humble and a serious man . I was hoping he would break out in his famous character. RIP
