Atheism growing in Iran

Fake atheists - the kind who just have a problem with Islam.

Atheism doesn't teach anything. No morals, no science, no logic - just death.

This is why the ideology of nothingness - Atheism - is on the decline, meanwhile Theism and Agnosticism are on the up worldwide.

Athiests are also foolishly arrogant, thinking they dont believe in God so are smarter. However from my experience in life and on forums, athiests are insecure and not very intelligent. They have nothing to defend as their views can change any second so prefer to sit on their keyboards attacking religions daily.

As for Iran the vast majority believe in God and Iran will be such a nation until the end of time. Athiests are delusional looking for false articles like the OP to give themselves a pat on the back.

Are you an athiest?

How is athiesm in India? Is it growing?

Most Indians I know are cultural Hindus. They are not serious about religion. Out and out Atheists are more in younger generation. Most do not go to temples or pray even at home. From my friends circle and a few hundred people that I know in person, I would say, about 20% of them are atheists, 60% are cultural Hindus and some 20% actually pray and go to temples.
Religiosity is decreasing with each passing generation. The numbers were drastically different when I was a teen growing up in India.

But how can you gauge someone’s intelligent?

I mean specifically you, as an individual, how do you gauge it?

Do set your own intelligence as a baseline or are you below average intelligence yourself?

Yet you have the most religious extermist government in power today. :sachin

How did this happen when according to you 'most' arent even serious about religion?

It was easy in your case.

1. You claimed the foods of the Prophet(pbuh) are not all healthy foods today. When asked, you ran off.

2. Athiests like you spend so much of your time attacking something you dont beleive to be real lol.

Intelligence.

So, you’re suggesting you’re more intelligent than me and the majority of atheists?

Please continue correcting my typos, very intelligent. :)

Now go to your family and tell them to leave religion instead of wasting hours on here and being ridiculed instead of changing anyones mind.

I was correcting my own typo you fool.

I think I’ll invest more time on here, to counter the ignorance espoused by individuals such as you.

Feel free to try and stop me.

You didn’t seem to answer the question regarding intelligence.

With regards my family, whom you seem so concerned about. Fortunately, I don’t need to repeat the same narrative to them. When I point out slavery to them they acknowledge it and are disgusted by it.

That’s probably why more than half have apostatised.

I can’t ever imagine them defending rape and slavery as you have. Thoroughly disgusting.

BJP sold their stance to majority of Hindus in the name nationalism and countering extremism in Islam. The terrible leadership of congress did not help and there is no third front to counter BJP and Congress.

I think definitely in the bigger cities Tehran Isfahan Tabriz etc atheism n agnosticism is on the rise with Iranian youth. A lot of these Iranians are apathetic towards the regimes religious rhetoric. There was even a poll in Saudi a few years back that inidcated 20% of Saudis were atheist. When u force an ideology on people it can create resentment n hatred against that ideology and a ticking time bomb. The same way we have seen the cultural religious revival in former Soviet states of both Christianity and Islam as these beliefs were suppressed and attacked for 70 years. But i suspect in rural Iran there is still is higher levela of religosity. I think the Ayatollah led regime will either collapse or have to adapt sooner rather than later. As its legitimacy decreases by generation.

Why couldn't they have sold nationalism without the need for referencing Hinduism if the need was to counter extremist Islam? Something smells funny about this statement.

I think it's a stretch to say Islam explicitly mentions Oneness. It is clearly said that Allah created the universe and all that was in it. Besides, Robert says he does it as a comforting thing, not as if he believes it will do anything. Doesn't make him any less of an atheist, as he doesn't believe in a god.

Unless God and the Universe are the same, in which case I am better described as a deist.

You’re atheist about Zeus and Thor and Coyote and Osiris. By your own criterion, you are foolishly arrogant, insecure and not very intelligent?

I certainly agree that there are many atheists online who are like 'lol theists dumb'.

However, the foundation of theism is faith, and that's not a reliable path to truth at all. It is more reasonable to accept that there is a lack of evidence for the belief in a god, and withhold belief until sufficient evidence arises.

And the article says atheism is rising in Iran, not that it's majority atheist.

A big portion of Nobel prize winners in science are atheist. While they make up a tiny percentage of the world population.

Education level goes up religious practices and beliefs go down. It’s true in every country

Islam is slowly becoming redundant in the hands of mullah whose rise in last four hundred years coincides with Muslim's decline. They and there version of Islam is complete misfit in modern world and it is futile to expect modern educated man to follow such illeterates.

There is an urgent need of revisiting the actual text of Quran and proper categorization of sunnah (seperation between Prophet (PBUH)'s commands regarding deen and the acts/commands he gave as a human) so that the present generation can channel their lives according to the eternal spirit of Islam. Efforts in this light have been made in recent times such as Iqbal's reconstruction, the works of Maulana Maududi and Javed Ghamdi but unfortunately the mullahs still enjoy considerable influence.

Iqbal was kinda anti science. He even said so in some of his poems. I like Ghamdi

Iqbal was never anti science. He actually encouraged Muslims to take up science and used verses from Quran for the purpose. He opposed blind following of the West as it is devoid of spirituality. Read his 'Reconstruction of religious though in Islam' to better understand his view.

lol. Athiest is one who DOES not believe in any higher power. I believe in Almight Allah, so I dont have to believe in any other false God to be a theist.

Thanks for proving the logic of athiests Robert:)

Did you just use the word ‘logic’ in your post?

Why are you atheist towards Zeus and Osiris? Stories are written about them in old books - much older than Islam - Osiris is even engraved on the pyramids - surely he at least must be real?

It's the fault of Muslims for not seperating state from religion. The deteriorating condition of Muslim countries has led Muslims to question the religion. The spread of extremism and the constant misuse of religion meant this was inevitable.

Having said that, I find the atheist ex Muslims in my personal experience to just be selfish and have an inferiority complex. They do not take accountability, blame every problem on Islam

Not in the end. Hinduism has always acted as a baseline under a facade of secularism. This is the unifying force among Indian nations. What else is common among them? However, it just took one powerful right wing party to emerge and take the facade off. Think about it, this is the first time a right wing party with such a majority of seats has come to power in India in its 70 odd years. 1st time. Do you think they could have radicalized a big population like India's in just 6 years (since they began in 2014)? They just exploited a sentiment that was always there, inherent in the system and the society by revitalizing it into a raging monster.

Thread bump has reminded me we used to have posters from IoK contributing here before the internet crackdown in Kashmir. Ironic that the OP is talking about secularism in Iran when we see what has happened in his own country.

From my own experience of leaving the faith I was brought up in, I would imagine that they will feel angry and lost for a very long time.

Be it people believing in religion or atheism, getting to extremes is the issue

I personally start to get apprehensive when someone shows this trait be it any religion

Iran has been in clutches of religious fanatics for quite sometime. The time has come for people to fight for their freedom.

This has been the problem with many muslim countries too. Hopefully, India doesn't become that way.

I believe there is a correlation between how educated the general public is of a certain country and how religious its population is. More educated the public, the less religious they are.

I know many highly educated people (Masters and PhDs) who are also very religious.

Just because someone is educated doesn't mean he will be an atheist. That's a faulty assumption.

Not surprised. I have not yet met a single practicing Iranian and I have lived in NY, California and Chicago.

I think Iran needs to chill a little. Humans have an uncanny urge to rebel when you try to control them. The morality police is a strange concept that Iran has. Perhaps a counselling or guiding body is okay. But moral police?

The Islamic revolution of Iran has turned into a revolution against women.

Oppression always creates rebellion. This is the danger and reality starung Pakistan in the face

I think Pakistani people face different kind of repression. Like police brutality, the women face domestic violence etc. The issue of moral policing exists in Pakistan but not to such an extent and certainly isnt enforced by the state in letter and spirit as it is in Iran. Or am i wrong? :)

Yes true that there are many religious people who have phds. And many 2nd grade failures who are atheist. However my statement still is true. As education level goes up in a society, religious level goes down. IN GENERAL
