Australia’s tour of South Africa called off due to COVID-19 concerns

The UK currently has 50k cases per day. Will any team ever refuse to tour the UK? Dont think so.
The chances that NZ will go to London to play the World Test Championship Final are probably at best 50-50 currently.

MELBOURNE, March 9 (Reuters) - Australia will look to reschedule its postponed tour of South Africa "as soon as possible" but only if the health situation and calendar allows, board chief Nick Hockley said.

Australia pulled out of the three-test tour slated for March-April citing an "unacceptable level of health and safety risk to players, support staff and the community".

The move angered the South African board, which said it had incurred significant costs in meeting Australia's safety demands and wrote to the International Cricket Council (ICC) seeking redress.

Cricket Australia interim Chief Executive Hockley said the "first step" to mending the board's relationship with Cricket South Africa was to come to a resolution with revised dates.

"We would like to reschedule it as soon as possible, providing it is safe to do so, and there is time available in the calendar," he told Nine Network-owned newspapers.

"Now, that’s not a simple task. Through the pandemic and quarantine periods there is a lot of cricket that has been rescheduled.

"But we’re right in the middle of constructive discussions and hopefully those discussions will be resolved soon."

So Australia called off the tour of South Africa citing covid concerns and prioritozing the health and safety of their players, which is completely understandable.

What is not understandable is how come they happily allowed their players to participate in the IPL when our country is throwing out close to a massive 2 lakh cases per day!!! Higher than any other country.

Or is it just the players call to play in IPL and CA has nothing to do with it? I doubt if that holds good for centrally contracted players.

There were specific cases in SA where protocol was broken etc. Not the sake in India, yet.

MELBOURNE (Reuters) - Australia is eyeing a 2023 window to reschedule the three-test series of South Africa after pulling out of the tour earlier this year, Cricket Australia boss Nick Hockley said on Thursday.

CA called off the tour in February citing health risks, a decision greeted by disappointment and frustration in South Africa.

“We’ve been working over recent months to look to reschedule, and we think we’ve found a window in the calendar in 2023 to reschedule that tour,” Hockley told a media conference after CA’s annual general meeting.

“Our relationships with South Africa are very strong.

“As we said at the time, we were very disappointed and I know our players were extremely disappointed not to be able to go to South Africa.”

Hockley declined to elaborate which part of 2023.

Australia is to host South Africa in a three-match series over its home summer in 2022/23 before a white-ball tour of India in early-2023 according to the International Cricket Council’s Future Tour Programme.

Australia have not played a single test overseas since the COVID-19 pandemic and have postponed multiple tours, citing health risks and player welfare, despite some players’ willingness to play in the lucrative Indian Premier League.
