Australia (155/3) beat Sri Lanka (154/6) by 7 wickets in comfortable chase led by David Warner's 65

Sri Lanka have 20 runs too many, Australia will choke like they did when chasing 100 odd vs SA.

Sri Lanka - 154/6 after 20 overs.

It is an okay score. Sri Lanka can win if they bowl well.

Australia need 155 to win.

Starc's bowled brilliantly today:

Sri lanka is 15 runs short it was 170 pitch.
But if they field well they can make it up.

I think sl r 15-20 Runs short on this wkt. Also with the dew in 2nd innings. Aus Pacers bowled well to restrict them. Some Good yorkers frm aussie pacemen. Also Aus saved a few runs in the field aswell. Sl seemed like they wud get to 175/180 at 1 point but Aus restricted them.

Baring an Aussie collapse r Sl spinners strangling aussie batting line up,i think aus have this in the bag

Interestingly, pitch seems to have lost pace ad bounce in the last 2-3 overs and now in Australias innings. Australia will be hoping for the dew to come in otherwise the conditions will actually favour SL.

Predicting the pitch and conditions is extremely difficult in this tournament and, hence, the toss decision proving tough to make as well.

Should start with spin . Wrong tactics giving Aussies pace upfront

Finch is good to watch when in full flow. Unlike that hack Jason Roy who looks like hes trying to chop a sequoia tree down with a small hatchet.

Where's Hasaranga? Why is the main bowler not bowling yet?

Captaincy hasn't been good.

Highlights of the Sri Lankan innings:

It was a defendable total and honestly, Sri Lanka came out with such poor effort & execution. Disappointing stuff.

Australia - 112/2 after 13 overs (target: 155).

Australia need 43 runs from 42 balls. Should be easy. Hasaranga is done with his 4 overs.

27 runs are needed from 33 balls.

Warner is back to form perhaps. He has scored 65* from 40 balls.

Had he hit that bouncer (wide) he'd have got free hit this ball.. Now he's gone..

Looking like Australia & England are a good bet to make it to the semi's.

Would be pretty excellent if it is Pakistan/India & Australia/England making it past the group stages.

Hardly anyone mentioning the Aussies as potential winners, but they look strong.

Warner making runs today is a huge boost for Australia.

Pathetic from Lanka. They could have put up a score of 170-175 easily with that start bust lost their way.

Shanka, a nothing player who shouldn't be in the team is their captain. Bowling performance was horrible
Toss didn't have any bearing on this match. Just poor batting and list less bowling from lanka

On the other hand Aussies is looking good

Kusal Perera smashing Starc for that unbelievable six, and the latter then avenging it with a toe-crushing yorker, has to be the best moment of the match. Amazing cricket, those two balls.

Sri Lanka started off nicely and were well on course to getting a good total, but the inexperience of their players showed in the end.

Really poor first few overs from SL today.

They need bowlers like Vaas with the new ball.

Australia laid down a marker with a convincing seven-wicket win over Sri Lanka in Dubai to make it two wins from two in the Super 12 stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021.

David Warner and Aaron Finch set the tone with a 70-run opening stand as the Aussies chased down a target of 155 with relative ease, with the former making 65 in a return to form.

That sets them up perfectly for the next game in Group 1 against England, who are also two from two, with the winner taking a giant step towards the semi-finals.

Sri Lanka, meanwhile, have been beaten for the first time in the tournament and face a crucial clash with South Africa next up.

After being put into bat, Sri Lanka lost Pathum Nissanka to an early top edge off Pat Cummins, but Charith Asalanka signalled his intent immediately with back-to-back boundaries. In the next over from Glenn Maxwell, he lifted the spinner out of the ground from the very first ball.

A 63-run partnership with Kusal Perera set the platform, but the introduction of Adam Zampa changed things. He had a big shout for LBW in his first over and in his second he had Asalanka caught sweeping by Steve Smith for 35.

Perera carried the fight with a big six off Mitchell Starc but a ball later he was heading back for the same score as Asalanka, unable to keep out a vicious yorker.

At 86 for three and with two new batters, Sri Lanka needed to rebuild but Zampa got another, Avishka Fernando, while Starc had Wanindu Hasaranga caught behind.

From the chance of making 170 or more, Sri Lanka were in trouble, not helped by Zampa finishing off his spell for a miserly two for 12.

Bhanuka Rajapaksa set about consolidating with his skipper Dasun Shanaka as the pair added 40, largely thanks to 17 off the 17th over from Marcus Stoinis.

Cummins broke that partnership as Shanaka top-edged to Matthew Wade, but Rajapaksa ended up unbeaten on 33 to take Sri Lanka to 154 for six.

Very quickly, it became clear that they did not have nearly enough. Finch and Warner tucked into the bowling, readily accepting a regular supply of bad balls to dispatch to the boundaries.

Finch powered two fours in the very first over and he and Warner combined to take Lahiru Kumara for 20 runs off his first over.

Warner should have been on his way for 18, gloving one through to Perera off Dushmantha Chameera, but the wicket-keeper put it down as his bowler started to celebrate and umpire Richard Illingworth was twitching his finger.

That was costly and by the end of the powerplay, Australia were 63 for none, the best performance of the tournament so far.

Finch fell for 37 in Hasaranga’s first over, chopping on and in his next, Maxwell picked out Fernando on the boundary after dragging the ball over midwicket from outside off.

Warner kept going though, moving to a half-century in the 12th over as he and Smith saw off the threat of Hasaranga and then went after the fast bowlers.

As Australia looked to finish it off quickly, Warner found Rajapaksa on the boundary for 65 off just 42 deliveries, but Smith and Stoinis got them home with three overs to spare, to boost the net run-rate as well.

I have a feeling Aussies will win the tournament. I would not fancy any team against them. They have the best fast bowling attack in the tournament and a top class leg spinner. Only the 5th bowler is gettable. The others are top top quality. And the batting with Finch, Warner, Maxwell and Smith is world class.

Adam Zampa turned the game for Australia in the eyes of his skipper Aaron Finch after a seven-wicket win over Sri Lanka in Dubai.

The Aussies are now two from two at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021, but they looked like they were in for a mammoth chase when Charith Asalanka and Kusal Perera started teeing off early.

The pair took Sri Lanka to 78 for one inside ten overs when Zampa struck. The spinner had already had one lbw shout turned down, but the pressure he imposed paid off as Asalanka holed out to Steve Smith.

He added the wicket of the dangerous Avishka Fernando in his next over and finished with figures of two for 12, good enough to be named Player of the Match despite David Warner’s 65 in the chase, a decision even Finch agreed was correct.

The Australian skipper said: “As a batter, I love batters getting [Player of the Match] but I think when you're looking at the impact on a game, Zamps was terrific tonight. On the back of a really good powerplay from Sri Lanka, the way that he controlled the game, especially from that bottom end where the right-handers had a short boundary to hit to, he was fantastic.

“He got big wickets. That was a world-class performance from him.”

With two wins, Australia now take on England, the other unbeaten side in Group 1, knowing that a win would take them to the brink of the semi-finals.

And Finch, who made a quickfire 37 in the comfortable chase of 155, knows that it will be a big ask against the reigning 50-over world champions.

He added: “It's always a great battle [against England]. We're looking forward to it. They've probably been the form side in white-ball cricket for a long time. We love playing them and it'll be an entertaining game.”

After winning all their first-round matches, and then getting the better of Bangladesh in the opening Super 12 match, Sri Lanka tasted defeat for the first time.

The frustration will come from letting a good position slip, with Perera and Asalanka having put the team in a strong position batting first.

And skipper Dasun Shanaka admitted that his team had allowed the momentum of the game to swing away from them after a perfect start.

He said: “We got the start that we really needed but in the middle phase we were not able to capitalise. We could have done a little well in the middle period, missing out really cost us. It's a bit of a concern. The other day, Asalanka took us home. The set batsman needs to take us home. I felt slightly we were 25-30 runs short on that wicket.

“We know how good those two batsmen are in world cricket. We have to bowl well and contain them in the powerplay and we couldn't do that. In the coming games we should capitalize in the powerplay with the ball. The Sharjah wicket, we've played two games there so we have some good plans and we should come well in the next game.”
