Australia all time Test XI

What will be your combination?

This is a subjective thing , tough to say , but I will give my opinion.

I would go with Shane Warne , MacGrath , Denis Lillie and Bret Lee. I would also have Allan Border in the middle order to give extra spin option.

I think spin option may be a bit light with this, but good option.

Strong team but curious why go with Hazlewood when Cummins played at the same team with Hazlewood?

I think based on how things are going, Khawaja is making a strong case for all condition second opener as well.

These Best Dream playing XI are good but you need to mention conditions. Otherwise it will not be complete.
Challenge is to form a team which can play well in all conditions. I think team you listed is a pretty good one.

How about Miller? One of the genuine all rounders in history.

maybe the most purest allrounder with oly imran giving him some competition, really an amazing bowler plus pretty great batter, but I chose Davidson because he provides variety plus he himself is a handy lower-order bat and has great perfromances across all conditions

Australia is that cricket nation which has every boxes ticked as far as ATG XI is concerned.

You can go with 7 batsman + 4 bowlers, you can go with 6 batsman + Miller + 4 bowlers, you can have a batting spin all rounder in Bob Simpson and you can have a left arm ATG bowler in Alan Davidson.

Yeah Bradman, Smith, Chappell and Border make first Xi and openers like matthew hayden and Bob Simpson, and even then you have players like ponting, steve waugh, Trumper, morris, martyn missing out and thyey'd be first xi choices fror many nations, and in fast bowling I think Aussie bowling ranks maybe 2nd or 3rd beind wi and sa, but still you have McGrath, Lillee/rindwall and then Alan Davidson, not to forget Craig McDermott, Cummins, etc and even in spinners they ahve great options besides warne such as Bill O'Reilly, Claire Grimmet, Richie Benaud, Bert Ironmonger, and Stuart Macgill even too and let's not forget lyon too anyways insane depth

Aussies would probably be ahead in fast bowling too, given the longevity. In case of South Africa, there is a lot of what ifs and could have been ( the likes of Neil Adcock, Peter Pollock etc). Windies produced more great fast bowlers than anyone in that period between 1970-2000 but have clearly struggled post that.

Australia have produced great fast bowlers consistently. Even Keith Miller is qualitatively close to an ATG bowler.

Yeah, Pretty much so. The only con in this is that they will have to sacrifice one of their batsmen if they want Davidson and Cummins in the team (Cummins's ability with the bat does make up for the loss of one frontline batsman). In that case I'd leave Smith out.

Warne is a pretty capable batsman in his own right and Davidson. There are people who can hold the bat till number 9 if need be. And add 6 very very good bowlers there. Hard to see even the windies all time xi team beating this one. Windies won't have the spinner or a wicketkeeper batsman like gilchrist even if they can come close to Australia in batting or fast bowling.

You don’t need 5 bowlers + Miller in the side. 4 bowlers + Miller is enough. Miller is a far better bowler than Kallis and even Stokes so having him as fifth bowler is already a very strong pace attack.

Include Steve Smith at 4, Border at 5 and then Miller at 7. Only one of Davidson or Cummins should play at 8. Warne, McGrath and Lillee stay at 9-11.

Additionally, you can replace Morris with Simpson. He gives you 6th bowler(2nd spinning option) and his record as opener is brilliant. His overall value is greater than Hayden or Morris and opening batting wise probably as good as both.

Davidson gets in the left arm pace option. Miller is good enough to get into the team as a batsman , any plus from his bowling will be a massive add that can't be ignored
