What's new

Australia beat Sri Lanka in 1st ODI by 3 wickets

Solid South Africa impersonation here from the Aussies.

Forget the extra 20 runs scored with the bat, if the Sri Lankan fielding effort had been better, if there weren't so many boundaries conceded through comical misfields in the deep this game would have been tighter. At least 10-15 runs cost through simple fielding mistakes on the boundary. It should be embarrassing for the team that Dilshan at 39 is twice the fielder of anybody else.

Congrats Oz good game in the end. Few more runs and it would have been on like donkey kong!

On another note for the umpteenth time. Mathews it's probably not a good idea to go in with just three proper bowlers. Who am I kiddin he'll probably go with just two next game lol

i can understand mathews and marvan being morons, but this has been going on continuously with different team management and selection committees now. do they have some sort of analytics that prove this to be the correct approach? i just dont understand why they continue with it even when it's clear it's not working to everybody else.

I certainly can't see why Ford would be pushing for these sort of combinations. It's not like SL has a power packed batting unit which could bat teams out of the game. If that was the case then it would have at least made some sense. It all started after Marvan took over. The Mathews/Marvan combo was truly one of a kind :))

I feel SRL is play too many "All-rounders", which actually isn't working. Their specialist spinner bowled really well today, but the others, bowled excellent balls, but in between bowled few loose ones, which 'll always be the case for part-timers or bits & pieces bowlers when they have some assistance in the wicket. Part-time spinners actually works on high scoring matches where you can choke team with 7+ asking rate by intelligent pace & flight variations, but when batsmen can wait for the loose one, it doesn't work much.

May be one more specialist spinner (not sure how good Ajantha is now) can make this team better + they need one more specialist batsman, as Mathews is really struggling with bat these days. Also, may be it's time to wispier at Dilshan's ear .....

Yeah too many bits-n-pieces cricketers. Has been the case for awhile now. They should be looking towards building a proper team for CT. This ploy completely ruined SL's chances last WC and ain't gonna fly in Eng mid next year either. Quite obvious to everyone except Mathews and co. Clueless and ultra-defensive that's what it really is. Two words that pretty much sums up Mathews as captain.

Australia are too good of an ODI side to pretty much lose anywhere. There ODI team has been dominating world cricket for a long time now. It would be a huge miracle for SL to win. They are unbeatable at home and the only teams that could beat them are England and South Africa in their own dens. But I don't even see that happening.
