What's new

Australia is due a disastrous World Cup campaign in years. Is 2023 that year?

Have Aussies ever choked in a World Cup knockout? Can't remember. They have been outclassed by superior teams sure, or some brilliant performance by opponents.

NoS Rating (Teams ranked in order of nerves of steel- all time rankings):

1) Australia
2) West Indies
3) Pakistan - India (tied for now)
4) Sri Lanka
5) England
6) New Zealand
7) South Africa

8) Rest

This is based on who chokes the least, and performs most often when backed against the wall.

Going by these official NoS rankings, no, it’s unlikely.

You are putting too much emphasis on older scores there. Given the last 10 years, I would place India lower than Pakistan in Nerves of steel ranking, and England higher.

England haven’t been losing this WC because of Nerves, but because of being a poor team. India has not won a single ICC championship despite making into the semis of 90% of the tournaments and generally being the top ranked team in the group stage. They did have better nerves in the 90s, when they would beat Pakistan in the World Cup despite being the weaker team. But since 2011, India have been the far better ODI team and have been beating Pakistan due to being a better team, not because of nerves. Pakistan otoh, has played 6 knockout matches since 2013, won 3 of them, and won a trophy. At the same time, India has played 11 knockouts matches (T20, ODI and tests) winning only 3 of them, 2 of which were against Bangladesh. In the meantime they haven’t topped the group stage only on one occasion.

None of these teams but Australia could’ve made a come back like today.

Disaster what disaster 6 in a row for them,in Maxwell they have player of tournament , in Zampa they have Bowler of the tournament all they need is to beat India in front of 132k crowd

6 wins in a row.

I believe they are the only team who can beat India at this World Cup.

Goat cricket nation

They will be playing the final of the World Cup. SA won’t beat them in the semis I recon

Not happening this Indian team is head & shoulders above every team and win will this World Cup easily

Good luck to South Africa for the semis against this Australia now lol.

Repeat of 2007 loading..

Australia refuses to go down.

The guts, the desire , the fight in this team!

By Gawd.

In terms of mental toughness - Australia look the only team that can stop India winning this World Cup.

7 wins in a row for them now.

Only team have that has the mentality to stop India. The bowling is bit weak, not enough penetration.

Aussies on a 7 match winning streak entering the semis.

Shame on all those people who didn’t believe in them early on and thought they would have a disastrous World Cup.

Learn from Australia, they’re the real cornered tiger.

Australia’s fearless batting is scary prospect. They have 4-5 batters in that line up who can individually smash 175+ not out in 120 deliveries to turn a match on its head.

3 of them have even done it - Warner, Maxwell, Marsh have all hit big hundreds in this World Cup.

If that happens. Obviously even Bharat stands no chance.

Bharat’s banking all its hope on the philosophy that their bowling is good enough to contain such batting threats (for 2 more matches at least)

Australia had a disastrous start after losing 2 matches in the start but their comeback has been so impactful that they are looking unstoppable atm. However, if India comes in the final and Aussie also beat SA in the semis then the final is gonna be one hell of a contest.

Travis Head and Maxwell. All teams in SF and finals will be scared of these 2

This team has improved in every game - but not sure if they have enough to beat India.

Australia had a few choke moments. But they overcame. SA could not overcome any of those moments. Lost to India, Lost to Aus in semis, Lost to Netherlands.

They know, in a world cup they just have to do marginally better than others. Simple formula. But they know it better than anyone else. Inspite of all the inconsistency in this world cup at no point they were depending on other sides to go through to semis. They controlled the controllables very well even at 50% of their ability.

Aussies are mentally very strong to handle the pressure of big games, so if they do what they are known for then 2023 could be another one to add to the tally.

This is note a choke. Aus are just too good. They planned this so well. India couldnt score and the pacers of Aus had them on the backfoot.

6 odi titles
1 t20
2 champions trophy titles
9 titles nobody comes close. No one

Who is second?
West indies have 2 ofi and 2 t20 titles. One champions trophy I believe.

India have 2 world cup titles and one t20 and 2 champions trophy titles.

Pakistan 1 world cup 1 t20 title

England 2 t20 titles and 2 world cup

Unbelievable.

Goat team. Windies three away their third title in 1983.

Also, in 1975 , Pakistan needed one wicket to beat Windies but allowed a big final partnership. What's new

The great journey of Aussies from a disastrous start to the champion is so fascinating that it sometimes feels like a myth.

Almost forget they lost to England in the 2010 WC final.

They have caused so much scarring to all teams whoever they face in semis or finals finds it hard to beat them mentally.
