You'll beat us but we'll do a lot better than India did in Australia, England did against South Africa and better than South Africa this series.

Let's see, last time you guys came over, you lost 2-0 (though both were hard fought wins).

SA still have hope...we did win at Adelaide after a similar carnage by Aussies in 2003-04..The legendary Lord Agarkar!

You may not have realised but we've improved slightly over the last 18 months or so.

Bloke named like Clarke done all right with the bat.

The most runs a single team has scored in a day is 509, by Sri Lanka against Bangladesh at the P Sara Oval in 2002

The South African attack was so hyped up. I always believed it that it was only a matter of time before they lost steam and the team got derailed. Go Aussies :jf

Conceding 400 in 70 overs of test cricket is truly horrendous.

Geez Pup's been on a rich vein of form eh.

Time for Patto and Siddle to expose deficiencies in Amla's batting tomorrow and return SA to their usual mediocrity :amla

LOLZ and I thought we were bad.

Some perspective for the resident SA fans I guess.

To be fair to the best attack of SA. only Morkel from the attack is there. Steyn, Kallis and Philander are all injured..

Sure you guys have.

But you sure Clarke will be equally effective away from home? Last 18 months, the 2 away series he has played

In SL, 3 tests, 214 runs@43
In WI, 3 tests, 188 runs@31

We want to see the Aussies score 500 in a day. I guess it was done once (in 90 overs) before by the Lankans against the Bangladeshis :raza

So Clarke's double ton comes first. Wadda player. He's just showing off to his new wifey (hot hot hot) me thinks. :D

Hussey 100 with a :6

He might also be showing off to Clarke's wifey.

Another double for Pup. Bradmenesque.

For those who criticize Bradman, imagine him doing what Clarke has done in the last 12 months, year after year, season after season!

Pup is in Bradman-esque form

4 double centuries in a calender year is just awesome :14:

About 8 overs to go. Another 40 runs and they will break the highest number of runs on a first day of Test cricket. Amazing stuff if they can do it. Probably not aware of it though.

wont get all 8 in

So, can we forget about SA as world#1 now.

Right now no one deserves it. Oz, India, England, SA all pretty much on par over the last 2 years.

Yeah let's just give it to SL. :D

Haha, the commies now trolling the Saffers. And we have our bunch, Athers et al who actively diss the English players on air

Finally Steyn gets a wicket and breaks the partnership.

So that's the end of play. The record will remain unbroken.

Yep if only SA had their full strength bowling like at the gabba....

The aussies are missing harris(when fit he's the best aussie quick) and watson through injury and they don't get excused.

I have been saying for a while test cricket is of a fairly low standard right now but it does make it fascinating.

Lot's of good but flawed teams around and no great teams.

England getting hammered and Australia pummeling world number one side. Must be good to be Aussie ain't it RA? :D

Well another good thing is that the draw is a near impossibility now.

Jacques Kallis may not take further part in the Adelaide Test after leaving the field with a hamstring injury, according to South Africa's coach Gary Kirsten. Kallis trudged off the Oval after bowling 3.3 overs and was taken for a scan. While team management has not seen the results yet, Kirsten told ABC radio it was possible that Kallis may be sidelined for the remainder of the match.

Another huge blow for SA. May even be ruled out of the 3rd Test.

Adelaide Test is traditionally held on Australia Day and it seems that continues this year.

What a treat to watch clarke bat the way he is !! Totally dominated the saffers today ! Wana see him score a triple tomorrow !!!

Clarke should go and get that 400. If he makes it till tea, Oz will get a huge score and shut saffers outta the game. Besides with no Kallis, Saffers are weak. Clarke won't get such continuous opportunities down the line.

Its good but it would be better if we were doing this to the English :-)

With the kind of [lack of] form they [English] are in, I won't be surprised if OZ actually beat England in the coming Ashes series. As per my understanding, KP won't be a part of the English set up by then. Another + for OZ.

I just realised in this series thus far Clarke has made 483 runs without being dismissed. As far as I know that record is currently held by SRT with 497 runs. So another 15 runs and he's got that one in the bag as well. Remarkable stuff. :don

Yeah we all know he play's for records #selfishplayer

Lol what a performance from the Aussies. If we had batted first then we would have ended the day with a RR of 2.8-3 RPO. Gotta admire their style of play!

Dale Steyn has looked utterly crap. I know the pitches are flat and the chance of generating reverse swing is lower on such green outfields but still ... he hasn't looked incisive at all; Pattinson and Siddle have so far outbowled him easily. Looks disinterested. Hope he proves me wrong tomorow.

That was a batting masterclass by Clarke and co. SA pace attack is often compared with Windies fab four and Pakistan in 90s. I can't remember them attacks pummelled like this at their peak.

Injured Kallis unable to bowl, but can bat

Jacques Kallis will not be able to bowl for the remainder of the second Test but he will be able to bat, South Africa's team management has said, after the allrounder sustained a hamstring injury in the first session and went off the Adelaide Oval. His availability for the third Test in Perth will depend on how he responds to treatment.

At least some good news for the Seth Africans.

"Jacques has suffered a Grade 1 strain to his right hamstring," Mohammed Moosajee, the South Africa team manager, said. "He will not be able to bowl in the current Test match but can bat, we can only make a call on his availability for the next Test match closer to the time as it is subject to how he responds to treatment."

If he is unable to spend enough time on the field, South Africa will have to push him down the batting order to No. 7 or later.

A scan revealed Philander's injury to be less serious. "Vernon's scan reveals nothing more than a lower lumbar muscle strain as initially suspected," Moosajee said. "He will receive treatment and undergo rehabilitation during the course of the current Test match and we are hopeful he will be fit for the final Test in Perth."

During the final session of the first day, Dale Steyn also went off the field in the middle of his 15th over, with a tight left hamstring. He was treated in the dressing room and returned shortly after. He bowled again and took the wicket of Michael Hussey to end the day. Kirsten was confident Steyn's niggle will not recur. "He came back onto the field and he felt okay, so I think he is fine."

lol. When i opened cricinfo & saw 486/5 , my first thought was that some one who did not know it was day 1 of test would prolly think this is the score after day 2 !
What this r/r does is create 50 overs extra in this match . Can the Aussies get Saffers out for under 400 in first innings . Remembers ,it is a benign surface as of now & Kallis,if he bats would come in after the fall of 5th wicket & no runners are allowed .
How many think Aussies will win this match ?

Shockingly poor stuff from S.A bowlers today inparticular Morkel and Tahir, it was like watching some village cricketers parading around in international whites!

Fair play to Aussies for getting into such a strong postion, but have to say so far that S.A much talented bowling attack has been rubbish in both the 1st test and here today. Even Steyn hasnt looked like his normal self either.

Kallis injury is a massive blow as he was once of the ones who look to be a menace in this game before his injury.

The Aussies smelled blood and went for it. With Vern out, and Kallis getting injured, they looked to hit out against Tahir and Morkel and leave Smith with no options other than to wait it out for a mistake, which eventually happened with Hussey getting out. It's their game to lose now, they basically added about 40 overs to the match to press home their advantage.

Not sure about how the pitch is playing yet, will have a better idea once both teams have batted.

On a serious note Australia shouldn't schedule Tests at Adelaide until the development is complete. 55m square boundaries in Test cricket is a joke, especially given how flat Adelaide is traditionally.
