Australia's bowling coach David Saker has taken a dig at Mohammad Amir, a few hours after the Pakistan paceman copped an on-field spray from Mitchell Starc.

Amir scored 48 on day four of the day-night Test in Brisbane, producing the highest score of his Test career to help Pakistan finish 8-382 at stumps.

Amir had an absorbing battle with fellow left-armer Starc, who peppered the tailender with bouncers and went close to dismissing him a couple of times.

Things turned heated in the 92nd over, when Starc struck Amir's pad with a 152.3 km/h full toss.

The pair swapped verbals, with Starc staring down his opponent and barking "what was that mate!? ... did you have to something to say?!".

The standing umpire spoke with Starc, who appeared to respond "he just swore, I didn't swear".

Saker made light of the flare-up, poking fun at Amir's antics on day one.

"I don't know (what they were talking about). It might have had something to do with his knee injury on the first day," Saker said.

"I'm not sure. The recovery powers were quite unique so he might have been asking how he recovered so quickly."

Amir appeared in agony on Thursday night, when he was taken from the field on a motorised stretcher after digging his knee into the turf.

Commentators predicted it could be the end of Amir's series given how painful the fielding mishap looked, but the left-armer returned from the rooms and took the second new ball soon after.

"We didn't really come to that," Azhar Ali said, when asked if he'd spoken with Amir about his confrontation with Starc.

"We'll probably have words after that.

"But it was a very good hard-fought game today from both teams. It was good to watch."

Amir was mocked by New Zealand fans - and, at one stage, even a ground announcer - on his first international tour after serving a five-year ban from cricket

Gabba crowds during the ongoing pink-ball contest haven't given Amir, convicted of spot-fixing in 2011, any boor or special treatment.

Good Pakistan is getting into their heads :yk , problem is current Pakistani team probably doesn't even know how to utilize it, except Amir maybe

Looks like mental disintegration backfiring. You can't get into the minds of Pakistanis there is too much non-linear thinking in there.

Surprised me as well how he came back to bowl so quickly. There were posters here predicting a 6 month rest.

No doubt he is surprises by amir's recovery if it was an aussies' bowlers it would have been 2 years out of cricket at least.

Read the entire article, yet to find the alleged "dig" he took at Amir. Being a bit too touchy maybe? Or its just to hype up a non existent rivalry between the 2? :/

it was at the end of the interview, he could have brushed it off but by actually saying it shared a bit of irk- not much in it though in context of things

Unless you are not clear about the English content, you will see exactly what he meant.

Sometimes I think Australia can't win unless they are creating dramas and put downs against the opposition. Their cricketers and the people around them just love petty petulant boorish behaviour and I'd love them to get proper hammered in the next matches. This David saker was rubbish in Uk as a coach and equally bad in Australia.

Yes but just like the article mentions his comment - Saker made light of the flare-up, poking fun at Amir's antics on day one.

It didn't seem like he was set out to target Amir, he was just being cheeky and probably didn't want to go into details of their actual conversation .

Will he be bowling coach of Pakistan with Andy flower?

That would be a great coup if Pakistan can get Saker. He might introduce some lateral thinking rather than the usual “right areas and tight lines” rubbish that Azhar and Waqar have been repeating for years

The team can do with a non Pakistani fast bowling coach for a change

Yes that's correct. If Aussies can't sledge, they lose.

This is exactly why we need ex players to keep putting down Aussies.. suffocate them

Honestly wouldn't be the worst idea to get a foreign bowling coach, preferably Australian. Especially considering our bowling is the worst it has ever been.

Problem is the board will not go for something like this. Because bringing a high-paying foreign coach to Pakistan is going to be a challenge with the whole security and everything, its going to cost them much more than a local coach. Frankly, I don't think our board will go for that unless its a head-coach they are bringing in.

Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to inform that David Saker, the ‘National Fast Bowling Coach’ announced his resignation from his position, with immediate effect.

He cited personal reasons for his decision.

David Saker joined Sri Lanka Cricket on 8th December 2019.

They should try to get him at the NHPC.
