Azad Jammu & Kashmir team to be included in next PSL: Minister

Azad Jammu & Kashmir’s team would be got included in the next PSL (Pakistan Super League) contests with a prime focus to encourage and promote cricket, besides other games, in Azad Jammu & Kashmir.

This was declared by AJK minister for Sports, Youth and Culture Ch. Muhammad Saeed while speaking as Chief guest at the prizes / certificates distribution ceremony on the eve of the annual sports in the state-run Mirpur University of Science & Technology here on Tuesday.

Vice Chancellor MUST Prof. Dr. Habib ur Rehman (Sitara –e – Imtiaz) and Director Sports MUST Abid Hussain also addressed the ceremony largely attended by the students, faculty members, parents and the city elite.

The sports minister said that the enemies of peace lost and Pakistan won through the successful holding of the much-desired final of the PSL at Lahore.

Saeed continued that the newly-elected PML (N) govt. of AJK was determined to provide latest means for participating in the sports to produce the healthy generation for the future – since sports were also imperative, besides education for emerging the healthy society. The healthy games, he said, raise the sportsman-ship spirit in the common man.

Ch. Saeed called for the promotion and securing of latest means of education to enter the ranks of the developed nations. “The Quality Education matching to the latest global needs is the only way to successfully meet the challenges of 21st century to enter the race for competing the developed the nations”, he added.

He underlined that AJK has already world class cricket stadium of international standard at Mirpur for hosting the local, regional, national and international matches. He disclosed that similar cricket stadiums would also be constructed in other parts of AJK under an integrated proposed plan primarily aimed at to encourage outdoor and indoor games.

Speaking on this occasion, Vice Chancellor Mirpur University of Science & Technology (MUST) Prof. Dr. Habib ur Rehman said that the sports raise the spirit of tolerance and competition besides a good health. He said that MUST was taking all necessary steps for the delivery of quality education in over two dozens disciplines of engineering, science and technology besides general science – side by side encourage sports to produce quality future architects of the nation.

Dr. Rehman underlined that highest ‘W’ ranking status clinched by MUST was the ample proof of the fast-paced progress of the varsity in providing quality higher education of various professional fields.

PSL should be kept away from Governors and Ministers. Only yesterday we had FATA team now Kashmir team.

In this way we would end up in 20 teams like Faisal Bank T20 where every other town has a team.

From Investment point of view Franchise should be made keeping in mind the population of the area and how much following it will get.

Multan, Hyderabad & Faisalabad are few regions which can attract good following.

Next year, there will be a sixth team in the third edition of the PSL.

Well, ladies and gentlemen, if you say forget about Dubai and remain in Pakistan and get the next deserving franchise then it will have to be Sialkot. Full stop, it is as simple as that.

Yes the other owners are against the decision since that means their profit margin will reduce. Cake will be now divided between six instead of five, which means each individual piece will be smaller.

However, the end decision lies with the PSL administration and not the team owners.

Karachi owner said they hav been promised by the PCB and its part of the AGREEMENT that teams would be added only after 3 editions

Why will Jammu and Kashmir have an IPL team? there are atleast tens of Indian cities who will outbid Srinagar in a IPL team auction. The auction for a single team will go above atleast 300 Million USD. Let us see what happens after the IPL 10, hopefully another two teams will be added to take it to ten teams.

It does not make business case for any business house to bid 300 Million USD or more for Srinagar, Zero chance of any corporate bidding on it when we have tens of Indian cities with much bigger economy and population to support.

I think we should have one team form each region of Pakistan.

We already have a team from Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Kpk and one from the capital.

Since Fata is joining Kpk, it makes more sense that we have team from AJK.

Number of states in India: 29

Number of teams in IPL:8

Number of teams from Uttar Pradesh with population 200 M: 0

Number of teams from Bihar with population 104 M: 0

Number of teams from Jammu and Kashmir with population 13.5 M: 0

and so on and so forth.

I have said it before, the real charm of the PSL is that it has only 5 teams and, in that way, it feels very intimate and friendly. The additoin of further teams will lead to the ultimate failure of this tournament, which is a shame.
