Anderson and Broad will eat him up for breakfast if he bats like he did today against England.
Very curious innings today.

You people need to be patient with him. He hasn't played competitive for more than 8 months before this game. He was our best bat in AUS and scored a double ton against Starc, Hazlewood and co.I fully back him to hit the form soon.
Fear the key word.
Both Azhar and Imam looked petrified out there. One can understand the young kid on debut being nervous but Azhar was batting like a debutant.

Come on Saj, this is his first innings of the UK tour; he has never been the most naturally gifted batsman and we all know that. It takes him a while to get going and at his age it does get a little harder but am sure he will deliver the goods eventually.
We should be more concerned about Mohammad Amir and Sarfraz Ahmed. Lets not forget Azhar has been among our best and most consistent batsman for a while, it's got to a stage now that every time he does fail it's shocking. It's not easy being Azhar Ali. But when in doubt make sure you rewatch what he did to India (Astagfirullah) in the CT final (My god really enjoyed that am going to check his innings out again) and the Australians at Melbourne. He is one of the most gutsy cricketer's in the HISTORY of cricket, never write him off, never ever write him off.

Surely the clock is ticking on this guy's career. I keep hearing what a classy and wonderful batsman he is, but all I ever see is single-figure scores with the occasional 50 in which he got three or four lives.

One major issue yesterday was strike rotation. Both openers seemed very wary of the pitch and were just intent on survival. In addition Imam and Azhar don't seem to be the best pair when it comes to running between the wickets.
Fairly solid innings by Azhar at Lord's in the first innings, but there is a technical issue which has crept into his batting - he seems to be playing around his front pad a lot, as was the case with his lbw to James Anderson.
