Azhar Mahmood ends his stint with Pakistan Test side as acting head coach [Update@post80]

But Pak don’t have another test series for months so it’s only right that Azhar doesn’t rock the boat and goes off to franchise cricket. I think soon we will see Hesson as test coach.

Don't worry. Azhar will likely be back as Assistant Coach, or bowling coach, or senior team manager, or assistant to senior team manager, or chief selector, perhaps even head curator.
He’s joined the gang - future Intikhab Alam

He was quite critical of the batsmen in the second test loss against South Africa as they were not learning from their mistakes. That probably didn't go down well with the sensitive egos of those players.

Not saying Azhar is a good coach but when you criticize Pakistan players as the coach, there is a price to pay.

Enough of the conspiracy theories, he was holding a spot, the PCB didn't let him go early on because it would have cost them more to pay out his severance and the remainder of his contract and Mahmood shamelessly stuck around knowing he wasn't wanted.

In any case his contribution as head coach was nil bata zero, Shan Masood was calling the likes of Sarfaraz Ahmed for tips, suggestions as he wasn't getting much input from the head coach.
